    3 inch should be minimum diameter for that engine size, especially with just a single pipe. The small diameter is likely making it clap like that.

    • @AdmiralRustyShackleford
      @AdmiralRustyShackleford Před rokem +1

      It's a TBI 350, it makes 200hp. That 2.5" pipe isn't restricting that engine, especially since it has no muffler. The manifolds are the most restrictive part of the exhaust, followed by the tiny crush bent y-pipe.
      I changed from 2.5" to 3" on my old TBI 305 when I was a teenager, thinking it was too small and it lost a lot of low end torque. Thankfully it was a 5spd so I could let it wind out the gears to make up for it but I wouldn't do that again.

      @@AdmiralRustyShackleford makes sense. Still don't like the clap though.

    • @AdmiralRustyShackleford
      @AdmiralRustyShackleford Před rokem

      @@fgj8379 That's not right, it's not the size of the pipe doing it, per say. It might not be properly reduced, they might've stuck the 2.5" pipe into the 2.75" y-pipe (that's the factory size, not 3") and instead of a smooth transition they just filled the gap with weld and the sound is the exhaust hitting the gap. Either that, or something else is wrong.

    ive owned a few of these trucks and i can say with 100% certainty that this truck is NOT a 5.7 350. it is a 305. the 350 trucks had dual 2" pipe and the 305 had single 3" its a common mistake since the only way to tell is through the vin or RPO codes, still an awesome truck though the 305 is still a great motor
