Tethered Logging EXTREME SLOPES- ClimbMax - Chilton Logging

- This Video shows Chilton Logging's ClimbMAX Machine which has its own self contained winch system for tethering. This system allows one machine to do steep slope harvests by itself rather than having another half-million dollar machine sit at the top of the hill to run the tethering system. In some of these shots you will notice there is no access to the top of the hill which would mean other tethering systems would not work or they would have to run a lines and a block to the top of the hill from the tethering machine that would have to sit at the bottom. The frequent road changes on this small section would make that a very inefficient system.
ClimbMAX is built in New Zealand and there were only 12 ever built. Many people may wonder why the machine does not level. The benefit of not leveling is that it keeps the machine's center of gravity much closer to the ground and thus making it extremely stable even on steep slopes.

Awesome vid dude...you n odiehorse r best cinematographers on the tubes
Crazy, I remember getting tickets for logging to much grade. Nice setup and nicely done!
Great video. Love the perspective the drone brings to the footage. As a flat lander from Eastern North Carolina that ClimbMax feller is particularly impressive. Talk about pucker factor!!! Pretty impressive how nicely that thing stages the logs for removal. Keep up the great content. I look forward to all your videos. Be safe.
Thanks for watching
Awesome video.
Great video and great tune
I don't see anything that should be done different here craig. amazing shots and editing !
Awesome video
So cool to see! Great video!
Thanks for watching. Make sure to subscribe for more
Nice vid 👍
sweet shots
Thanks For watching
Very cool Craig... Bet he wasn't happy when he threw his chain and turned around to see you right there...
He knew i was around he just didnt know exactly where i was.
Slip the chain, swing around and kill the drone..........almost lol. Awesome video Craig, you've got a damn keen eye for perspective and capturing content and especially logging content!! Always a good watch when you post somethin pard, and very much look forward to the "future" of your content after a dinner invitation this weekend............
Hopefully it turns into something, we will see. I wasnt even invited lol I just showed up as a Designated Driver
@@BlueLineLandWorks hey whatever was it was meant to be since it landed yer keister in a chair at the table lol
@@woos31 Send me a message on my facebook page, Blue Line Land Works
wow only 12 made and you got a great video of one of them
They just built the first one out of an 855
That's crazy. Way cool. But as a hand faller, I feel obligated to say, I create less ground disturbance with my boots, and I won't make enough in 8 or 10 years to pay off that setup
climbmax is crazy 💀
Badass
Thanks for watching!
I would not have been good at this job, I’d have to stop every few minutes and yell, "I get paid to do this, that’s crazy, I would’ve done it for free!” Great video as always.
I would have to agree with you completely.

save a trade, hire a faller!
Great video and you're nuts ! :) Build road on Vancouver Island but at least we get to make a nice level surface for ourselves while we're working. One of our contractors up here has the two machine system which is WAY more expensive but i don't notice a lot of difference between where he goes now and where he went before :) He's petty damned good and nervy too, just like you guys(and NOT like me:) ). And is that an old spur in the last part where you've got the drone panning up the hill or just a flat spot?
The entire hillside was originally logged with a dozer and there are cat roads all over it.
Very small trees nothing like the old days.
What do you tether to that will handle the weight? More than one tree? Does the operator position inside have some sort of leveling? You answered my other question on the engine oil pickup. This piece of equipment is better than having two heavy track hoes...the other one used as a winch vehicle. This is half the cost.
He tethers to a large stump or a smaller stump the is twisted back to others.
@@BlueLineLandWorks Thanks!
Does the engine in that machine self level some how?
I would think it would starve for oil occasionally.
Very cool video!
High school kids should see this!
A job to aspire to!
And how a renewable resource is efficiently harvested.
Very good question. All of the fluid pick ups have been modified to account for this problem
Interesting.
Compered to this machine Craig what are your thoughts on the concept that Cotontop3 showed in his video at OLC?
The machine that cotontop3 showed is a $700,000 machine and it is essentially a yoyo. It does nothing but tether to another $700,000 machine. The only benefit is the one at OLC hold more line (climbmax holds 1200) and it probably has slightly more winch power. Read my description on the video and it explains a little more.
@@BlueLineLandWorks I was of that answer as well why have a anchor machine that does nothing compered to the climbmax I wasn't knocking you at all Craig.
@@barryhansen6854 no I completely understand. I think climbmax just never did a good job of advertising which is why they didnt sell more. Ultimately if the had the financial and production abilities it is the best option/ design out there and I'm just a guy like you looking from the outside in. I think it's crazy to spend 700k on a yoyo
@@BlueLineLandWorks That other machine I mention on Daniels channel was on his community section if you haven't found it.
@@BlueLineLandWorks NZ is small in size but punches above it's weight at times, but it takes a lot of money to promote a product if you are not world recognized which was the same with the company I worked for which is now defunct yet was a world leader in slaughter works gear.
Couldn't tell me the price of this machine could you mate?
1.5 million usd
Nice to see a kiwi machine working overseas
My understanding is there are only 2 or 3 in north America
THE TRANSFORMER LOGS
Set them up
I'll knock them down
Hillside, swamp or Valley
Soft as Pine
Or hard as Steel
Not one will dare deny me
I'll trim them bare
And stack them up
And then when I am through
I'll turn into
A big old truck
And haul them out to you
think about a climb max tilter
They just built the first one
Ls855
No need to wear a hardhat in the machine
Music is obnoxious as hell people would prefer just to hear the noises of the machinery operating.
I appreciate you input but drones don't record audio otherwise all you would hear is a drone buzz.
@@BlueLineLandWorks Yeah that is the downside about drones, it's a pity you haven't other cameras recording sound and film from the cab of the excavator or on the ground. Never mind, thanks for the reply BlueLine, have yourself a great Chrissy & New Year.
MAGA.
