  • Kyle, from Uitspankraal explains the recent 'super' flood of the Doring River that occured during the winter in the Western Cape, Karoo region in South Africa. Flooding of the Doring River is a seasonal occurence, resulting in an unpassable through road from April until late August.
Kyle works hard to keep access open on the public road that passes through his farm heading broadly from Wupperthal & Clanwilliam to the Tankwa Karoo National Park.
The floodings in June/July 2023 were a once in a hundred years and way out of proportion to the yearly rain season and snow melt from the Cederberg mountains. Flood levels were up at least four times average and resulted in trees, bloulders and sandbanks being washed away, completely covering the opposite bank of the natural river crossing.
Repair works will need to wait for the water levels to subside, and big machinery to come in and move a lot of the sand buildup and reopen the road.
Jai Yen Yen Uitspankraal is a perfect spot to visit for a picnic along the river, explore the remote areas, do some fishing, swimming, river rafting and chill in the calm surroundings. Check out Jai Yen Yen: / uitspankraal
