This is exactly the kind of demos we need - challenging situations and your thought process navigating through them. And of course, the execution. Awesome, Taylor and Tim - thank you!
Love the lethargic simple and to the point way you explain and demonstrate!
Super useful video and much appreciated. I have had luck with low bounces as well - like off a toilet or light-colored gravel at dusk (for kids anyway). Also anything metal like stainless refrigerators or exposed ducts (basically a silver reflector). With the V1, I find direct flash with double diffusion (diffuser+dome) seems to looks pretty acceptably good. Direct flash in general is OK with me but there are times when the red eye is just horrible. Also bought a huge piece of white foam to use as an oversized bounce card ever since that log cabin shoot I did. Most of the pics were high ISO + soft but acceptable.
As you showed and what I would think is best practice - always shoot subjects near a light source whenever possible in a crappy room. I'd rather have a shot that included a lamp than none at all. I'd even be willing to shine a flashlight on someone or a small group if that made the difference.
Great vid !! I would love to see how you use modifiers like the mag sphere and ones that their pack comes with
The new Godox X3 will look so cool in your setup!
Love this! Thanks Taylor.
Good stuff, Taylor. Very useful advice.
I'm excited to try OFC this year. I mostly prefer amgient, so I'm imagining just doing backlit scenes with a cinematic flair.
So useful man, thank you!
Great Video!!
A really good video actually. Not just a normal “how to” video, but one that’ll probably end up being a life saver for someone lol
That bar and those models look familiar! Haha. What’s up, Kait!
Hey Taylor! Thanks for the video. Qq in situation like barns would it be better to use direct flash with Magmod diffuser than bouncing it off wood? I am a relative beginner in flash so trying to understand the options :)
You can bounce flash of of wood and the color black. I've done weddings when all there was wood. Best to use DXO PhotoLab or DXO PhotoLab with Deep PRIME noise reduction. Trust me it works.
Same. I actually like it when the ceilings or walls are wood-colored
can I ask what standard you use for your flash? I'm looking for one and I don't seem to find the correct search-terms to find something similar?
Thanks for the video btw, having my first wedding photography 26th of february, bought all your courses and feeling prepared and assured; thanks so much!
I see a Sam Hurd style banger shot in the mirror behind Tim at 10:28!
That would have been cute. Can confirm.
Very informative - thanks for covering these typical scenarios ❤ would you choose the V860 over the V1, or why did you choose this flash? Big thanks
I’m happy with either of them. This was also a filmed a day before the v1 pro was announced
Haha for me I picked it as I could reuse the Magmod accessories which was meant for rectangular type flash!
Can't believe you didnt use the V1 here
What light stand do you use ?
Hi Kait!!! 😂
Ha. Hi Kate.
