BANTU KNOTS HISTORY
Bantu knots are traditionally an African hairstyle that has been around for over 100 years.
The Bantu Knot is said to originate from the Zulu people (one of the many ethnic Bantu groups). Sometimes the term Bantu Knot is substituted with the term Zulu Knot.
Besides a way to curl your hair, Bantu knots are used as a great way to protect and manage hair.

Soo pretty! I would legit think you’re a natural curly girl! And thank you for referring to the style by its original name☺️
original? just out curiosity, what other things do people call them?
Fabulosa I believe that she’s just thanking her for not calling them something else. She actually stated the style name and where the style originated. For instance she didn’t call it something crazy like Kim K referred to cornrows as “Bo Derek braids”
Firstly, thank you for not busting on her, for "being a white girl using a black girl's styling method".
But, frankly, this whole debate brought up by some that this styling method was originally discovered/invented by black folks is just ridiculous.....& even worse that white people therefore shouldn't use it is just insane.
I'm white & have been using one big "bantu knot" bun to enhance my natural wave while discouraging them from coming out frizzy for forever. The tightness of the knot/bun closes the hair's cuticle, preventing frizz for thos of us with reactive cuticles. In any other curling method I can't get it tight enough, & I end up a big frizz bomb with a few rougue curls...
NO ONE taught me how to do this - not my mother or black or white girlfriend, sister, aunt, cousin, stylist or whatever.....Nor did I watch any tutorial videos like this one. I just started twisting my hair to get it contained to put in a large hair clip bun when on the go & realized what it did for my hair - so I started using it as a heatless & over night styling method (using pins @ night instead of a bulky clip). I was probably doing this 15 years when I learned that this is exactly what I've seen black folks do with the multiple little buns (I always wondered about that - lol), & that this same demographic gave it the name of "bantu knots". What do I call **my** method? A "tight, twisted bun". Lol.
@HeyIt'sMe XoXo 👏 👏
@@reneekh3599 um lol black people did create it?? It started in the Zulu tribe in Africa dating all the way back to the 17th century. So it'd be RIDICULOUS to think black people didn't create it. thank you very much.
I LOVE THAT IF YOU RESPECT THE CULTURE WE WILL WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS AND NOTHING BUT LOVE
wait so can anyone wear bantu knots? Because I know some people get offended but I'm genuinely curious.
@@emmaknight6052 i don't really know some people get offended some don't.
Like if you were just to curl your hair,or cause you are curious stuff like that it's okay.
But like if you wear it to mock the people or for culture approparion it's not
@@emmaknight6052 I'm Black, yes of course u can wear the hairstyle, anyone can wear there hair anyway they want to. Just as long as the name of the hairstyle isn't name something else. All African Hairstyles been around for thousands and thousands of years, these hairstyles have meaning behind them. All races of people braid there Hair, but Black people we Braid hair differently and our hair styles are different because our hair is different.
Culture appropriation
@@emmaknight6052 Hi Emma. Thanks for your inquiry. It is best to stay away from the hairstyles and other culturally-affiliated styles if you are not a part of them, even if people who ARE a part of them "give you permission to." They don't necessarily have a right to give you or anyone else access to them, because they are not the rightfully selected gatekeepers. Our ancestors are. It is bigger than cultural appropriation. These styles are tied to our ancestors and the very Black/African/Indigenous stories these styles told and it feels like a violation when they are imposed upon by outside cultures or granted by folks who don't even have a right TO grant permission. Hope that answered your question, beloved.
Thank you so much for sharing! I've had so many ladies with either thin straight hair or hair that is hard to curl, asking how to get their hair curly with Bantu knots. They didn't believe that it would work on their hair or that it's such a quick and easy process. Don't have to pay a hair stylist to do for them. I'll definitely be sharing this perfect demonstration video to ladies with naturally straight hair. 🙌🏾❤
I wanna try it but I don’t wanna seem racist alot of the comments are saying it’s racist
I think they looked great! Next time make sure to tuck/wrap your ends so you’ll get the full curl effect 👍🏾
Thank you for calling them bantu knots and not little buns!
I could understand the frustration, but also can’t get upset at someone calling them little buns.. It’s a pretty accurate description
@@mariahxjimin141 do your history it comes from the Bantu Tribe in Africa calling them something else is disrespectful she shouldn’t be wearing them at all actually since the hairstyle was used in something so dark but she just used it because she wanted to make a curl pattern with her hair.
@@ultimatefirecracker1486 One, I have already done the history. I know what they’re called. I know where they come from. I know they also have an alternative, and slightly more accurate name, of Zulu knots. Describing them as what they are is not disrespectful, it’s an observation. And using them to achieve a curl pattern, which people of the culture in question do as well, is not rude at all. I feel like you’re trying hard to be offended for the people of this culture, but you’re gonna need to try a little harder. Culture or not, hair is hair and it is individual and not subject to culture. Some hairstyles many have cultural significance, but that same style can be used by people of this corresponding culture with no knowledge of or no intention of following a culture. The same for people outside of that culture. Hair is individual. People celebrate Christmas all the time without celebrating Christ, which is quite literally in the name of the holiday. The same logic applies
Canary really didn’t get enough screen time smh
@@mariahxjimin141 We not saying other races of people cannot wear cultural African braided hairstyles, there are some people that have tried to change the name of the hair style or don't give credit to where it come from. There are some people who try to profit from it. Anyone can wear any hairstyle they want including African Hairstyles which seem to be popular now.
I love how she actually said the correct name of the hairstyle and said where it originally came from
my name is london too
Can I just say I loved that you gave facts about the origin and links do incredibly gracefull and respectful you look great

The cutest individual on CZcams... we love you Kate
omg I'm definitely trying this!!! it's so hard for my hair too curl it's so straight
Taylor you look gorgeous with or without makeup your so authentic and natural beauty. Yes the curly hair is a plus, but until now I'm still thinking your one of the most pretty and hot youtubers 🥰🤩🥵
Have you seen the like little foam rods you wrap your hair around before bed? They give a similar affect just not quite as curly! Those might be fun to try!:)
Flexi Rods are fun to experiment with, I agree
I love it! Beautiful!🤩
You look amazing with curly hair!
Dunno why the lighting looks a bit orange on my phone lol, watch on laptop 😂
Taylorkayteee ur a cutie
Какая ты симпатичная
@Taylorkayteee you look BEAUTIFUL!!!
the true tone on your iphone might be on the screen might appear yellow/orange in certain lighting
Also, my friend did my hair in Bantu knots once. I don’t even remember how it turned out, all I remember is she made me run to the hair store with her halfway through to get some supplies and my hair was only like half in knots and I was so embarrassed 😂
you are the cutest human
You give me such hermione granger vibes
This hair 😍😍😍😍
Very pretty!
The prettiest girl ever 😍
That actually suits you. You look great. 👍
Love your hair ‼️‼️
I currently have 16 knots on my head! It hurts very bad
16 knots on your head? Are you related to Wild E. Coyote?
You're so pretty. Love you 💕💕
Beautiful
Cute result.
You look so cute with curly hair
Nice hairstyle
Respect!!
Ahh... sooooo cute!! Definately trying this!! So cute!!
You look beautiful!!🥰❤️
Yea love the curls
I think the ends could curl best with sponge curlers, same process but add the rollers then twist into the buns...what do you think?
so is the spray like a holder or just water ?
Yummy and it looks like a beautiful flower cherished every day
This looks like my hair when i go to sleep with it half wet lol it would look better maybe smoothed out at the top with looser curls
😍 Amaizing
Wow😍😍😍😍 this hair🔥🔥🔥
Super cute!! :)
Should I use hair mousse too?
What kind of spray are you using?
You look adorable.
I tried it, i think my hair is too long....
Is she just using water? Or is that some type of hair spray thing?
I love all of the positivity . Where the hairstyle comes from , it doesn’t matter , if you love and respect it , I say go for it . We are all one race . The human race . We are here to love and appreciate as well as respect one another
Uuugggh, don't do that. You see lil sis getting love in all these comments because she took the time out to learn about the style and pass that on. Someone naive that didn't know any better would listen to this advice and have the whole internet coming for them. So messy. 🙄
@@skepchica exactly, the culture and history is VERY important
Unfortunately that is not a reality for black people. We are much hated and mistreated in this world.
Looking rite!!! 😉😎👍🏽
Wow, the comments get pretty negative the further you go down. Don't worry girl, you look great!
How long should I keep it?
Not so beautiful and patient but the beauty that he gave you light of all creation
Looks beautiful but ishould be brushed. So there's no gaps of the twistys Deff looks cute tho and with some earnings and a necklace 😍😍
A lot will accept you without makeup
make your ends tighter around the Bantu knot so the end won't be straight
It would’ve looked better if you combed the curls out, giving it a more uniformed look. Try that next time.
Whitney I brushed my hands through them after this vid!! ☺️ was just taking a long time lol
That just creates frizz
Not really that would have made it frizzy! What are you even talking about 😂
L F ACTUALLY, it wouldn’t, especially if she used a paddle brush. So wtf are YOU talking about?
Whitney paddle brush? Okay 😂 all naturally curly haired girls know you can’t brush out curls. So calm down hun
Your so beautiful and your smile is pure and cute 💫🖤🖤
Nice
how long do they last
Cutee
Such a cover girl!.
oh noo, these are a bit much for me, but u look gorgeous either wayy, i recommend jessyluxe/ jessica vu's overnight loose heatless waves tutorial * -*
Wow...que hermosa🥰😘
Pretty, will you be able to make a workout plan?
Medusa😍😍😍🖒🌝
Try shaking your hair/scalp backwards for more volume and to loosen the curls a bit (:
Sabrina Mohammadi thank you! I’ve been trying this throughout the day 😁
☺️
You look lush
❤❤
I know these are “heatless” but to just make the ends uniform with an iron would go a long way
Not only afro people have curly hair cuz I’m venezuelan/latin and i have this kind of hair, please is a question, it would be cultural apropation if i do this?
Sorry my English isn’t the best
Omg I’m also Venezuelan that’s so cool!
You have latin jazz! Did jazz come come from latin America? No! Jazz comes from black music culture. Poodles have curled fur on top of their heads and do they ask to wear bandu knots on top of their heads? Wake up.
Could you upload a tutorial on how to just be attractive because I seem to be struggling
😍😘
Yeye
You are adorable.
Yeesh 😬
Is called B a n t u knots for a reason 🏌🏽♂️
‘Trying African bantu knots for heatless curls’.
Enough with the SJW crap. We’re all over it. Get a life.
prarty
U r supposed to run ur fingers through your hair
She sounds just like Emma Watson
Try it better with socks or the string of a robe. The curls come out beautifully!!
You look somewhat like Selena Gomez, do you hear that a lot? 😍💖
🍅🍅🍅🍅
Guys dont do it wet !
wait a minute u don't even have natural hair wth I. ... ?
Smmfh
Hmmmm not the look I would go for.
Lol exactly the look I'm going for. I love it.
Is this April Fools? This is April Fools huh.
Can I get a prize if this is April Fools because I don’t think anyone else pointed that out in the comment section yet. 😂
