Loll Newark is far from a city you want to visit let alone cross township lines.

Things that would help our police to better serve the public are de-escalation centered training, fair union contracts, body cams required to be turned on by penalty of law, heavier community oversight and representation, demilitarization, ending broken windows theory policing, ending our ineffectual war on drugs, ending for-profit policing and investigations of police that commit crimes being independent instead of internal. I believe most of this is common sense.

I dont think this would work here in parts of chicago . Not even armed police officers venture into some parts.

Newark police department let us down. my dad died in Newark and they.mede up a story about some kid shooting him near our house. There were no gunshot sounds. There were so many suspicious things happening days before he died. His nervousness that day, looking a little tired and like he had too much in his mind.the detectives had no video and did not want to speak to anyone in the family , had no interest in knowing. They just wanted to blame someone and they did. They had. Free legal aid lawyer that use to work in Newark and man that my father was not fond of as a detective. Only certain family member s got letters about the court dates and some didn't. Too many secrets. I will never say my family did not accept maybe some kind of benefit deal.

I think it is time to have a Police with a face of our century. I want to say that the Policeman working on the streets, should be the one who has in his capacities, many options. Starting with love, respect, compassion. Yes, the Policeman should do everything to help him being inspected, and do everything to not kill him or kill her. In the past, the Policeman had to shout at the suspect, so that the suspect in a state of fear could say something that the policeman could pick up. We are at different times. Society wants to change. Society wants respect, love, to change for the better. And in case the Policeman realizes that there is indeed something wrong and that he must arrest the suspect person, then the Policeman should take the person, but in a calm way and without the person coming to feel bad. Congratulations to the Newark Police. You are the real heroes.

I have no idea what you are smoking, bit it must be some great stuff. Do you have any idea how many police officers are killed every year? Everytime they make a simple traffic stop, they have to fear for their lives. The best take away from this piece, is the community leaders stepping up and the giving the police the comfort that the community actually has their back. I guarentee you, having that in the back of your mind, reduces anxiety on both sides.

I made a comment about a year ago that some of the ex-convicts, and good cops could turn things around. The ex-gang members can help those young ones. It would be someting good for both. What they give to those kids will help those kids live better lives than they did. I did it with my kids. I know that not all ex cons are cold hearted individuals. The were unfortunate people who had to find there way. I think people are basically good. Situations can make a good person find a way to survive. We must learn to help each other. So glad to see that Newark is getting the hang of it.

Yeah. Just like the PA State Patrol and what they're being trained to do right now? Trust? Their definition of trust is we'll keep doing what we've always done, and hopefully you're too stupid to notice. The only way to even start to build trust is when there's first a level playing field. That's the starting point. But it will never happen. When one side has 99.9% of the leverage and will never relinquish even 1/10 of it, "trust" will never happen.

You forgot some things. "If you don't start answering my questions you're going to be arrested for obstruction" (that's their default). Then the broken window, taser, punch to the face, dragged through broken glass, slammed to the ground, tased and punched again, handcuffed, slammed on the hood of the police vehicle, then you hear "You have the right to remain silent." Thanks. I was doing that 30 seconds ago.
