- Here's a look at the inside of the Mercedes 271 EVO engine in the timing chain area. If you are doing the chain and both guide rails, this video will give you and overview of what it takes to do that. Here's a video of just how to sneak off the driver's side guide rail without pulling the head: • Mercedes 271 engine ti...

Great video, but I've been waiting for another video about the right rail installation
You can find it in his video-shorts. 😉
Pretty productive video, thank you.
Very nice video
What is the best way to reinsert the pins that hold the chain sliders? Thanks a lot!
Hi mate do you have a video on dropping the sump down to remove the timing cover
Great !
Is the 271 engine an interference or non-interference engine? If the chain breaks will the valves be bent
Hi, to change oil pump chain is it necessary to remove head?
Is the m271 series oil pump chain the same as the m272 series?
My question is does the rack and pinion have to come down to remove the oil pan ?
How many rotations did it take you to get to top dead center
What are the symptoms if the water jacket leaks?
To change the timing chain, timing chain guides, do you need to remove the engine from the car for C200, W204 Mercedes Benz?
No
@@alexanderthomas8593 Thanks
Como quito la tapa???
Hey buddy I’m removing the timing cover to replace the water jacket o ring that’s cause water to mix with the oil . I’m finding that the chain guide pin on the intake side of the engine is extremely tight. I’ve attempted a slide hammer and it won’t even budge with it . I’ve tried to use a few washers as spacers with a bolt to help slide it out but no luck . It’s only a six mm thread and I don’t want to break nothing inside the hole of the pin . Any suggestions?
Cheers Jorge
Is this the lower one that causes water to mix?
@@sciencegod1 No , its the upper one that is fragile and normally breaks and for some reason ends up somewhere on top of one of the 4 cylinders, its rubber so best thing is to get original ones from Mecerdes about $12 if not less, the work involved to remove the whole crankshaft cover just to replace $12 O - rings to avoid oil and water mix up is shocking.good luck
Do you have to break/cut the chain to remove the camshaft adjusters? Couldn’t you possibly just remove the tensioner remove the cam bolts and slide them out with some force? I’ve done it before on a 1.4 chevy cruze and I don’t see a difference in my logic
I didn't have to break the chain, and your logic is right. Just remove the chain tensioner, and adjusters slide out as that is what I just did on mine.
The chain is easily replaced from above, there is no need to open all the parts🤔
Yes it is if your timing guides breaks
Do you know if the bottom 3 sprocket gears below the crank have markings for a specific orientation when putting a new lower chain back on?
Yes they do
@@MP-qv9fd thank you
Where do you find those markings? I don’t see them anywhere on mine
I found the markings, but does anyone know how they should be properly oriented?
@@Erickj99 I left mine alone and didn't touch it
Your say the word "turbo". I pressume this is evo engine and is year 2010 or newer. You put in short entension wiring adaptor "pig tails" for the wiring going out from cam phaser magnets?. In many older U tube videos they shows oil leaks from cam phaser magnets that travel to ECU box via its wiring. 🤔🤔🤔 You change engine oil every 5,000 miles?. You also change out the PCV valve and its hoses?. Any small hole on the vacuum hose. How many miles or km by this engine before this changing of this timing chain set?. Regards.
How much does a job like this cost
I think this was a couple thousand bucks honestly. To remove the entire front timing cover the oil pan has to come off too. It was billed out at about 16 hours labor, plus parts (which is pretty expensive). This was probably $2000 at least
I just started this job, easily enough the valve cover was a breeze, I'm debating on breaking the timing chain and snaking through and set the timing without removing the cover....
@@straymusic wow only 2000? I'm in Cali and I was quoted 7k for the entire job.
Do it yourself for under $600 all new made in Germany parts. People spending thousands of dollars for a job, highway robbery.
Great; doesn't show the process of engine timing cover removal at all
This camshaft adjusters is made in china?
Just so everyone knows you do not have to pull the oil pan. There’s 9 bolts that connect the front of the oil pan to the timing case just remove those and ur good
I thought there were dales sticking up side from the pan
So is it possible to take off bottom plate without oil pan
Yup just did it on mine without dropping the oil pan or removing the engine. Don't forget the 2 torx bolts inside right in front of the guides
Just to add on. I did have to remove the oil pan to get it back on. In my case since the head gasket decompressed it was impossible to get it back on cause of the tight fit. It's back on now thankfully
Wat about the shavings from the rail in oil pan
How did you get it back on? The head gakest keeps folding inward as I try to put it in. Should I loosen the oil pan slightly to allow enough room?
I have to replace it because it broke lol
Do it yourself for under $600 with made in Germany parts. Iwis Engine Balance Shaft Chain / Timing Chain Kit | 229527271, and 2 beru cam adjusters, as the kit has all the chains, guides, tensioners, and o-rings.
Buy the timing cam lock kit for $40 with adjuster removal socket included, 4hrs of your time with some simple tools you can buy at harbor freight and save thousands over a indy or mb dealership, and you have tools you can reuse for the rest of your life.
People spending thousands of dollars paying a mechanic instead of learning how to fix their car. smh
Hi, can you kindly provide a link for beru cam adjuster. Can't find any beru cam adjusters :( Don't want to buy chinese copy...
