Daily almond eater here. I read from a nutritionist that you should strive to eat 30 different plant based foods per week. It doesn't need to be a full serving. For example, every week I eat almonds, walnuts, pecans, mixed nuts, a variety of fruits with my oatmeal, a variety of vegetables in my salad - which also has chia and flax seeds, etc. And of course various other vegetables and whole wheat/grain products. Eat my popcorn and bowl of cheerios every night for a treat :)

I and my husband have almond and walnuts every morning on our cereal. We purchase raw nuts and whiz them in the processor so we can have a dessert spoonful on our morning cereal. I include quinoa and raw oats as well as lactose free (I have IBS) Kefir milk and a banana. Never feel hungry before lunch and our skin, for 80 and 76yr olds is pretty good, with people continually saying we don't look our age. We exercise regularly as well so this helps.

It is likely that the Almond Board of California was/is the only organization interested enough in the benefits of almonds to provide enough money to do any studies at all. So if you are a researcher interested in doing that kind of work, you have no other options. Also, if the study results strongly support a hypothesis of positive benefits, the AB of C is certainly not going to object! - On the other hand, I’m sure if a study results in no positive OR negative affects, they aren’t as interested (and no one else is much either).
Taking funding from an organization with skin in the game, so to speak, does not automatically mean the clinicians / researchers become unthinking shills.
You have every right to decide that you don’t find results from studies funded that way to be compelling, but that is your personal opinion.
Many, many, many studies would never happen if funding wasn’t provided by an organization who stands to benefit from results showing positive impacts on people’s health.
