Im a Japanese main, so i know from experience the Zero is one of the best planes in the game. I have survived fires and have somehow turn fought with having a wing clipped. Its a very capable plane in the hands of a experienced player

Agreed, whatever they did to fire extinguishing chance in some update, it made the Zeroes survive just that much longer.
@@AnakinSkyobiliviator i find cutting engine power and/or shutting off the engine increases the chance of putting out the fire in RB. In AB, a fire still means youre pretty fked.
Hey Ash there's a trick I learned from Adam to counter the loss of lift on one wing due to a wingtip being broken. You gotta get your plane to a speed high enough to rip the flaps on any setting you'd wish (landing is good since you don't need much speed). Once he got to the desired speed, Adam popped the flaps out and made the plane roll towards the side which still has a wingtip (in your case left). The extra pressur made the left flap rip before the right one, and he then put combat flaps or whatever flaps you need to give extra lift for the part without wingtip and thus equalize turning ability. Could have worked!

I've played almost since I started playing war thunder, the Zero of Japan, and I must say that in the hands of a good player, the Zero is one of the best aircraft I've mastered, it may not be fast but its mobility will always leave you behind enemy Spitfires or Italian aircraft, anyone who enters maneuvers against a Zero... Will lose
if both pilots are equally skilled i dare to say the zero will get beat up so hard it won't be pretty
@@xavier4519 The Zero have a serious speed problem and being basically a glass cannon, there yes, it depends on the type of aircraft the Zero faces may lose, but I've had fights against Spitfires, P51 and soviets La, people who even have been playing longer than me, and there are times when I've beaten those kind of people while in a Zero... It's a pretty situational plane, sometimes you win sometimes you lose.
@@Felix_1099 yeah it depends on how much energy you have, say you're going against a P-47 that knows how to manage his energy, if you don't have at least 2km of equivalent energy advantage he's gonna extend and slowly build up his advantage, nothing you can do there
@@xavier4519 yeah, on that situation I always try lure them and make them think I will not have the chance, and when they counterattack I use their compression of high speed to outmaneuver them and attack them when they are recovering from the dive, if they try it again... I make the same until he or me made a mistake, I will never catch a P47, but I can try to make them overextend
I'm pretty good at equalizing energy and sniping when the enemy dives on me. The more someone converts between kinetic and potential energy, the more they burn. Winning is just a matter of surviving a few diving attacks.

Recently spaded the non premium a6m5 cause I wanted a more competent plane for my 5.0 tank lineups cas slot, and it gets access to a 250kg bomb that you can drop with supreme accuracy. And honestly, even with the bomb it maneuvers better than pretty much any other cas plane, even yaks. The cannons are super inconsistent but when they work they work well. Only issue is the repair cost is a bit high.
In air rb you basically always play with america now for some reason, and since american air teams eat crayons I've had mixed luck. I've had games where I've gotten 0-1 kill and won, and matches that I've gotten aces and lost cause the rest of the team decided to ground pound in their p47s. If I had a skilled squad I'd say that there would be little issues with wins, but I mainly play solo and well...
Cannon are pretty decent. The place i read it may be old but it said the type 99's ammo has the second highest HE filler after minesch shells. That said, only the model 2 has usable velocities (~750 m/s) and decent firerate (~590 rpm). The only issues are the model 2 cannons being wing mounted so youre dealing with convergence, the relatively small ammo per gun (100-125 rpg) and the difference between mg and cannon velocity (you have to get closer within 600 m have all bullets and shells hit).
But besides the glaring issues, the cannons do work pretty well if you get a solid gun solution for about 2 seconds and have a burst out.
And that’s why the premium is great, it’s the same plane but it’s repair cost is cheap asf.

A6Ms have been amazing for years. A6M3's, A6M5's, hard to go wrong really. Boat zero being an exception lol.

Yeah, those floats wreck your energy retention in turns, which is easily as important as a tight turning radius.

@@TheAngelobarker I suppose, if I was grinding for the A6M2 that would make sense. But if I am taking the Rafe at all, I'm going to want the floats on. I already have up to Sensui. If I want it without floats I can just take A6M2.
A6M2-N is amazing at 2.3. you get 20 mm cannons on a very well turning plane at that br, and 5+ kill games are suddenly very trivial to achieve. If you rip the floats off, then you essentially have a 3.7 BR plane at 2.3.
If you can't succeed with the A6M2-N, the problem isn't the plane.

Nah they are not OP if you are not dumb. They are painfully slow. I have no problems matching a zero in a P47 or a P51. Play smart and you can take them down even in a dogfight.

That zero has been my bread and butter for years in WT. I've gotten to tier 6 Japan with it and made millions of lions. It's also great for padding your K/D ;)
The one thing owing to it's manueverability was also it's achilles heel. No proper self sealing fuel tanks and wooden construction. You sneezed incendiary at the thing and it lit up like a christmas tree

I was beyond myself when i saw you committed the headon vs the a21. The zero's nose mounted 7.7s cant do sht against that thing which has several nose mounted large caliber mgs and cannons.
I've spaded both the standard and otsu versions of the A6M5, I'd say they're pretty good; I personally prefer the otsu despite the repair cost due to the increased firepower it gets with that Type 3 MG.
Yes. A6m2 is probably one of the best aircraft in war thunder. It’s wooden frame makes it turn really fast making it easy to dodge the enemies. Well, but the armour is very shit. One hit or burst if you’re lucky then dead.
It's not wooden. Duraluminum, an alloy that the US didn't develop until 1944. Huge weight savings.

Hey Ash (or anyone else who is willing to answer my question), I have recently switched form arcade to realistic with the A6M2. I constantly am unable to respond effectively by diving aircraft, especially American's with 50cals and i end up just dying. How do I not die in these instances and how do I try and respond after they have made their initial attack?
Do a split-s or a left or right turn while going down slightly can help too. If they follow just dodge and make them overshoot and then its showtime
If what i just said fails, gain some speed, rinse and repeat
Dunno if you've heard it, a maneuver I call "the box trick". Forgot the real name, I heard real Zero pilots used it too. Fake a head-on if your enemy is diving shallow, keep your speed around 300kph IAS ideally, as soon as the enemy opens fire (usually 0.8-1.5 km in WT) draw an imaginary box around the enemy with your gunsight. Be generous with the size of the box. EVASION 100%. Then if the enemy turns, he's yours. If he continues to dive straight, leave him be.
A few things
1) Think ahead, start your banking sooner than you would in AB.
2) As they extend away, WEP in a straight line to regain energy, for as long as you can safely do so. If it is just one plane, you can dodge them pretty much indefinitely, two with practice and experience. You can also potentially enter a shallow dive if available, but try to avoid altitude loss unless you are trying to bring them down for allies.
3) a) Try to notice the orientation of their plane,
b) use WASD rather than mouse to turn sharply.
if their wings are at all not aligned with yours, bank the direction they will struggle more to follow.
I also got the urge to play Japan, and ran through the a6m3's and a6m5 zeroes I had. I got lucky and ended up in a 100% Japanese Zero team heaps of fun.
For the japanese team that is. I got a match like that once in my P51. The suffering. Past 5 minutes half my team was gone with no kills. Then we killed three of them. At the price of what remained from mine... Eventually they ran me down when i ran out of fuel.
I had a very interesting moment in the a6m5ko.. I was dogfighting a p51 and.. I didn't see the p47 dive on me..
I was set on fire the p47 flew up and I put the fire out.. and still able to fly.. the guy said how are you alive.. I replied that's a good question.. so he dives on me again and I'm set on fire.. this time he flies along side me and I said watch this.. I put the fire out again.. i survived 2 passes in that plane from a p47.. I was basically Swiss cheese.. he said well you deserve to live and pulled off.. but since I still could control the aircraft I followed and set him on fire.. he put the fire out and we both went back to the af.. and well I forgot who won fight but we both were shocked that I survived 2 passes against a p47..

I wish I could find chill friends in this game, I flew with this one guy all week and it was going great, I was trying to figure out if the map was hot or cold for my engine, so I asked him where are we? I told him I noticed the trees look Northern and he snapped! IM NOT HERE TOO LOOK AT THE TREES!!!! We never flew again, few more guys were worse but longer story. I just want to find some dorks to fly with fuckin hell.
zero fact: you can WEP carelessly nd increase your speed drastically, only times it effects your engine is if it's damaged

The Zero is so good, the only problem is that enemies die too damn fast. Once you're in your first dogfight of the game, half the enemy team is already dead.
First world problems
To answer the title, yeah I would think so. Was playing air realistic in a G55 and had one behind me, there was nothing I could do to shake him. His plane seemed like it ignored gravity as it was able to do all sorts of maneuvers without losing speed

Your mistake was allowing the Zero to have the possibility to get onto your 6 in the first place. If you were at 3 km of altitude you could have dived away.

@@martijn9568 Even that is useless if the Zero pilot is skilled. The later A6M5s can sustain over 700KM/h in a dive and not compress.

The zero is very good and will always be but sadly I don't have someone to be my wingman so whenever i get jumped by 2 planes i will end up setting fire one of them or killing one of them then i die
The A6M5 is such a good plane as long as you are patient and always keep your calm, and the premium version is an absolute bargain.
And think ahead. Unlike the Ki-43, your bank rate isn't especially good, so you can't begin your maneuver last second. This is more than made up for by the fact that you maintain energy well in a tight turn, while a jinking Ki-43 burns energy in a bonfire. A Ki-43 should be able to nearly guarantee the first pass misses. Second pass is a challenge, and if you face a third one you are dead. A Zero can stay alive for a long time with many passes, but you have to notice the enemy sooner and can't wait as long to start maneuvering.

Ive got the A7M1 it has a better engine and almost turns better. The only weakness is its roll

General tip for anyone considering flying the zero: load universal on the 20mms: the non-tracer HEF rounds have around twice the explosive mass compared to the tracer ones. (Also the A6M5 otsu is great, the 13.2mm in the nose is very nice)

Ngl, Zero is really op because of its sharp manouver, you can evade an enemy at ur 6 by just doing a simple barrel roll
Its manuverability is all it has going for it. Keep speed and reangage. Never turn or maneuver with a zero unless you want to die

The Zero (and most Japanese planes, at least at lowish tiers) are absolutely wonderful to fly. Their main shortcoming is an incredibly low ammo count.

If you can do it that well in the Zero, then i challenge you to use the Ki-43 I, flex on uptier matches becase being so light and 1.7 the plane is so understimated, can even keep up turning with some biplanes and good climb rate

It's a good plane, but I struggle with its energy loss on jinking or turning hard. Really hard to regain that energy. Combined with a gun that doesn't have a complementary 20mm, I find I have to tail a plane for a while for it to go down, leaving me vulnerable to other planes in the meantime.
Certainly underrated, but it seems to me to be more tricky than the Zero.
Man I completely forgot this plane was even in the game. Never see it flown.

From a zero main: YES IT IS
Zeros aren’t beasts NOW and they never really were. They die from one burst from any other aircraft and don’t have strong guns themselves. They are great turn fighters but that’s about it. You can always beat a zero as long as you don’t turn fight it. But for some reason the American players think they are just over powered.
Because they turn/energy fight them. No way those work if the pilot is not dumb. There is only one and only way to fight them, BnZ them. If you turn, you are dead. If you energy fight it, you are wasting time because you wont kill it thanks to it awesome stall handling.
It doesn't matter if "YOU" Pick a turn fight. The zero making you over shoot is all it takes to make you gone. Plus. Some zero pilots if not all willingly use there turn to turn into there enemys, it doesn't matter if *YOU* pick a dogfight. The other pilot can also do so. There not robots. Again? What's the point of armor if you never get hit? .
I just climb like around 3000 because i want to see those p47 boom and zoom fighters crying after I reversal them
What's your go to reversal move? I've been having trouble turning the tables on boom and zooming planes.
@@euclid1068 its pretty easy actually make sure ur speed is around 300 km/h while turning use throttle control to help. Now when the enemy is around 1.5km from u. Try to turn downward into the enemy and then go up with a left or right turn. Ussually a good boom and zoomer would dive, zoom to make some distance and then go back up. But sometimes u come across ppl who boom, go back up. Nowwhen the enemy goes back up thats ur chance to shoot him careful not to overcommit or u will waste too much energy and turn into an easy target. Anyway i hope this helps sorry if u didn't understand.

I dunno what exactly was done to the japanese guns, but the thing's able to kill on its advantages now. Which makes it a valid choice now, rather than a high performance eunuch.
Not sure what they did to make the weapons deliver. Does volumetric apply to aviation? Or is it just fuse improvement?
They propably fixed the fuses... I noticed the 20mm rounds now actually set fires and explode wings. They feel something like hispanos but low velocity

They are imo the best not jet grinder in game. In jest one think is that you can earn less per battle but in the same time this battles are much faster in good match it takes 8 min to finish game

Facts dont care about your feelings
I ground out most the tree with this plane. I am a OK tanker and a very ordinary pilot, says a lot about the plane.
You are better than you give yourself credit for if you did that, at least in regards to environmental awareness. Many players have to get hit before they notice it is time to start maneuvering, a common complaint of the Zero.
It is a good plane for sure, but you sell yourself short. You can't make stupid mistakes if a competent player is making a pass on you, other planes are more forgiving regarding damage.

Honestly, the scariest thing in the zero is hearing you get hit. Performance degrades so severely even with the slightest damage that you cant keep playing the same
I have the reg a6m5, it’s a beauty, but it catches on fire easily, which I can agree
Its extremely punishing if you make any mistakes. When I face them they go down pretty easy but when I fly them they feel like awesome. It all relies on the skill of your opponent. If they're smart the keep speed and disengage until they get a better opportunity, but the average player decides to maneuver with a zero and that usually gets them killed when the guns work

The Zero is very manuvabel and if you know what you are doing you can quickly force the enemy into a dogfight where you can use your turning rate to take advantage
