  • “There is a chance that a major counteroffensive with a beefed up set of Ukrainian forces, perhaps with F-16s available by that stage.”
Ukraine could launch a new counter-offensive in 2025 with its new Western weapons, says Lord Dannatt, former head of the British Army.

Just look what the “ SEA-BABIES “ has done in the Black Sea and the Ukrainians just threw those drones together, although Ukraine has always had a knack for producing innovative weapons systems since Soviet times .Most of their Nuclear Weapons were further developed in Ukraine and they manufactured a lot of arms. So Ukraine should never be underestimated. They seem to have the know how on how to get the job done . Going from buying cheap , inexpensive Chinese drones because they knew no other way , to 2 years later only hanging on, in their own ability to developing advanced drone technologies and producing over a million drones a year in their second year , is absolutely amazing .
Had they depended on arms from the West , there wouldn’t be a UAF left !!!!

As a dual-citizen of America/England and a republican - I am more than disgusted with the way the House held up badly needed aid for 6+ months on the Hill. However, how can Europe (who's combined economy dwarfs Russia's) cannot fill-gap while the GOP gets their heads out is a concern that needs to be discussed as much as the delay in American aid.
I know finger pointing is easy, and in this case deserved, we have let our allies down and that will take time to recover from. However, there needs to also be the man in the mirror conversation as well.
The GOP is in the middle of an identity crisis, how they can let someone like Trump be their nominee (again), I just cannot understand - and I am a republican. With that said Europe does not spend enough of their GDP (as a whole, there are exceptions) to be able to protect Europe and that needs to be discussed as well. I am proud the UK is upping defensive spending to 2.5%, but let's be honest - it is not nearly enough.

Ukraine is using 50 year old Soviet tanks to its advantage. The Lepard 1 is the same age and similar to the M 60. The US has hundreds of 50 year old M-60 tanks in storage that could be put to good use in Ukraine at no cost to the US taxpayer. Ukrainian mechanics could be brought in and trained while getting these tanks into usable condition. Once running they could be turned over to a crew for training, this would serve as a breaking in period allowing for mechanical problems to be found early. Crews that excelled would become the trainers so that in a short time only a skeleton crew of US military would be required thus reducing cost to the US and preparing Ukraine to assume these tasks. As seen with the Leopard tank simpler design can have advantages on Ukraine’s battlefields allowing for local repairs. The M-60 saw heavy combat in the 1991 Gulf War in Kuwait. While the battlefield has changed, and the tank has repeatedly been written off it keeps coming back. In order to provide survivability, it will take tanks on the battlefield to develop the proper countermeasures in order to survive today's threats.
We know from WW II that to be effective it takes a lot of tanks the Sherman was not the best tank but the quantity on the battlefield meant the odds were 2 or 3 to one.
There are also thousands of Armored Personnel Carriers, Fuel Trucks and support vehicles setting in storage rusting away send them to Ukraine.

A lot of wishful thinking here. If wishes were horses beggars would ride. The opportunity was lost a year ago and sadly, now there is no way back. This stupendously muddled response by "the West" to Putin's imperial land grab will be dissected and studied at length in history departments for ages, as the textbook example of how not to conduct diplomacy and military policy. Also it's astounding that a mentally deficient US congresswoman - yes Moscow Marge has blood on her hands - and a handful of her cronies could tie the US government into knots and prevent the delivery of critical weaponry to Ukraine. Democracy sure does have its vulnerabilities. It is also disgraceful that "Europe" has not been able to take more of its defence responsibilities into its own hands. Europe remains a tot waiting for Uncle Sam's largesse and protection. It's a very discouraging situation.

The uk has over 100 old eurofighters in storage , not the ground attack variant, they should have been sent as soon as the pilots are available Instead of waiting for US sorting out a deal that suits the american makers . Ukraine would be better buying korean jets as they allow you to use them without permission . What happens if the f16 jets are used to bomb just over the border to stop an invasion the yanks would have kittens every bridge from russia into ukraine should have been dropped and all railway centres leading to ukraine bombed when the Ukrainian push was in full swing to starve Russia of resupply and crimea would be in Ukrainian hands but the politicians sat on their hands and gave the Russians time to dig defence in depth making it harder to root them out , shame on them
