You're alive! I remember watching your wireless fire alarm videos a few years back. I got into EAS recently and purchased my first encoder earlier this month. It arrived and it's an absolute beauty. If you're interested, some friends and I participate in a program called "National Encoder Relay Program" or "NERP" where we monitor each other's stations for emergency alerts using our encoders and create a relay chain across the United States. We'd love to have more equipment enthusiasts on the team if you'd be interested. Other than that, I wanted to say really enjoy your content! You inspired me to create my own channel several years back and it's fantastic to see you've become active again.

Hey, just so you know, The “automatic” button is flashing which means there’s some hardware problem. My guess is that the battery is dead since the time On the front panel reads that it’s 1995. The SAGE ENDEC uses a CR2330 battery iirc

yep! As this thing is keen to tell me, "Time is bad". Just swapped it out with a new CR2330, but it didn't seem to like it. I shall investigate further!

Still having issues where the date will reset to 1/1/20 even with a battery. I do like having an accurate date/time display on the connected BetaBrite, but this ENDEC is likely about 20 years old so I can’t really complain :)

I didn't think these had a Beta-Brite interface. I wonder if it would also work with an Alpha? BTW Adaptive signboards are VERY hard to kill- there was a person who owned a coin-op laundry in east Wichita who had one from the late 1980s which was damaged by a storm and was still working despite being split nearly in half!

Nice! Yeah, if the Alpha boards use the same protocol (I think they do?), it should work

Nick, did you use the rs-232 interface on the back? You need to do a video on how you did that.

Are you in the Philly area? I saw the RECPhilly sticker and the Philly-style pride flag stickers and was wondering

I'm in Silver Spring, MD at the mo, but I love Philly and have a bunch of friends there, and am more than happy to represent the rad stuff they've got going on!

Do you need to be a licensed broadcaster to purchase updates for these?

    • @NicksMadScience

SAGE appears to offer free firmware updates for the newer Digital ENDECs, but since these old units are no longer compliant, no firmware seems to be available :/ Kind of a shame; I missed out on the recent national test because this unit didn't know what a NPT (National Periodic Test) was
