@Jack Reid If you listen with headphones you can hear that it's Robs voice. Metallica to my knowledge have never used backing tracks while playing at any of their concerts, and I have listened to an embarrassing amount of their gigs.
What's more likely is that there is editing after the fact. Whether that's re-recording the backing vocal, editing it in pro tools with tuning or just adding compressors etc to even out the volume.
But I am positive that it is Robs voice, not Hetfield. We will find out for sure very soon whether or not he can do it again, when they play it live in a few days. But another issue with the suggestion that it's a backing track... the band needs to play to a click, and Metallica don't play to a click live... and they aren't on a click here either.
Definitely a vocal backing track, that's James's backing vocals used from the studio version (+ toned down)

Idk why but 72 seasons kind of hangs in my head lol, it’s not only a great song, but the album is damn good in my opinion. The more you listen the more you’re like holy shit that’s really good. Long songs, but hey, that’s Metallica! Someone’s gotta make the longer jams.

You can see that they are fired up for the new tour, specially Lars, the man sounds tight.
People are saying his vocals are fake and they are just using a backing track, I don’t think so cause there is a section where there are clearly vocals overlapped in the studio version, but here there aren’t. Rob deserves more for that performance

@@multiestonian lol it has nothing to do with trolls as it does just calling out what's there. Backing tracks are almost *always* changed for the live performance from the studio version to give it a more "real" feel. This is an industry standard for layering vocals live. That is not Robs voice and when the tour kicks off and there's thousands of videos proving such, the real trolls gaslighting people(you) will be exposed for the blatantly obvious facts put out there. I don't understand why you guys can't just accept Rob is not good on the vox. Backing vocals left Metallica's chat the moment Jason left and they never plan on returning except in the form of layered backing vocals...from James.

@Jack Reid I'm a little skeptical about Rob. I think it's more likely that he was singing live but that they fixed it in post. Not the hardest line to sing though, so it's reasonable to assume he could pull it off... even with his limited vocal ability.
Especially tight between 0:50 and 1:00 when he realizes he is dragging and eventually speeds up and catches up lol

If you only went one day you got lucky on the 29th. We went both days (we live 30 mins away) and second day was much better than the 27th.

That's the best I've ever heard sad but true. 72 seasons sounds way too watered down on the recording, but the guitars here sound so raw and full here . Makes the songs so much better sounding to me.

YES!!! Lars can play double bass again! Maybe they'll finally do Dyer's Eve or Fight Fire with Fire properly.
He even had problems to record Dyers Eve. Way too fast for him.
Lars can play double bass fine. He has been able to play it fine since the 80s. He’s not any better this year than last year.
But lars is not capable of playing dyers eve, and never has been.
