Do them in order. By number 5 they get good and by 7 they are flying and no one else has a chance. Mitch, Scott and Kristie were 19. Mitch missed his high school graduation to be there, He was shy and really hadn’t been away from home. Scott and Kirstie each had one year of college. Kevin had just graduated Pre Med from Yale and Avi has a new college degree in opera. It’s impossible not to fall in love with them as you watch them struggle and strive and soar
I am sooo happy that you have started reacting to Pentatonix Sing Off journey. Thank you. They were so young and hopeful and talented. Pentatonix started 13 years ago. Their anniversary was a few days ago. This was a great first performance for a national audience.
I just saw their post on Instagram about it. I recorded reactions to a few other songs of Pentatonix, but definitely will check out all the Sing of performances as well.
Love that you're doing the SING-OFF! Yes, there are 12 episodes and it's important to do them in-order, to watch their growth and development from one week to the next. They incorporate the judges positive comments and constructive criticism eagerly, and quickly develop their unique style and sound. This was their first public performance as Pentatonix and they already ruled that stage. It was also the first time I ever heard anyone use "overtone" singing (Avi) and not one judge ever comments on the skill! There are three stand-out episodes that sealed their win coming soon...so hurry...please! Great reaction, thank you!

The four years this show ran there was only one female in any of the winning groups, and it was Kirstie.
They were very good from the very beginning.
About halfway through the shows they were the clear front runners.
I'm sure someone has mentioned this, but please don't miss the Superfruit episode where they look at some of their Sing Off performances. It's amazing and really funny. Also, Mitch had just finished high school. Scott and Kirstie withdrew from university to do this after their first year. Both Avi and Kevin had just graduated and were looking at an opera career and med school, respectively. It's a miracle Pentatonix happened at all. Can't wait for your reaction to the rest of the Sing Off. Enjoy!

I watched this live, and to this day it blows me away that this was the first time they ever performed for an audience together. Like…. That is WILD.

I always feel Scott adds the flavor to the song. Amazing to see Babytonix.
Loved the reaction. Mitch was still 18 at this point, Kirstin and Scott 19 and Avi and Kevin just a couple of years or so older. It boggles the mind how good they were from the start, especially their arranging skills. Yes they can sing well and that is usually a given in a singing competition, but this was not just about the singing, but also their imaginative and creative skills in the presentation and execution of their arrangements week after week and is the main reason why they won. Hope you react to all their performances in this show, chronologically because it shows their progression, growth and the jaw dropping stuff they were capable of even at that young age.

So glad you’re doing these! It really shows their growth from performance to performance. They incorporated everything the judges said and improved exponentially. And this was a tough competition - many individual performances/arrangements every week, along with all groups together numbers.

And to think they ony had about 24 hours-ish to practice this because Kevin was not able to get there any sooner. Did you notice how good Kevin and Avi were able to just mesh, and know what each other was going to do before they did it.
correction... 24 hours for their audition performance. I think this one is 2 weeks after, but still this is their second performance ever or the first recorded one.
Oh Yay, the sing-off performances! Did you notice Avi's overtones (spaceship whistly sounds) in the background? I really think it is amazing how cohesive they all sound having so little time together before this performance.

This was such a pleasant surprise!!! I remember watching this live when the show was airing and immediately knew from jump that Pentatonix was going to go far.
Made sure to vote for them every single night they performed like a mad man!
For more of the story of how PTX began, I highly recommend Kevin‘s Fifth from their Kentucky show. Aside from learning a little more about them, you will be blown away by Kevin. I still can’t believe they only met a day before they had to perform their audition piece. It was meant to be.
Came here to say this. Kevin will blow you away, plus Scott tells the story of how Kevin became a member of the group...and it's a great story.

I love watching these old videos of Sing Off. I watched them live as they happened and was amazed at their creativity and talent. They were like no group I’d ever seen. The judges were very encouraging and it was clear after performance #4, they were going to win this contest. The fact that Kirstie, Scott and Mitch were 19 years old at the time is incredible as well. You’ll enjoy seeing them grow and improve over time. Whatever you do, don’t skip performance #12, Dog Days are Over.
Will check all of them out eventually for sure.
These shows are addictive - when you see one, you immediately want to see the next one! Everyone in the current line up is married except Mitch.

Saeed, you did it! You're starting the Sing-Off! Trust me, we'll be with you all the way. We never get tired of these old videos. There are 12 performances that are part of the competition, plus three bonus performances (one of which didn't go well because they couldn't hear each other). The bonus ones are worth watching, but they're not on the level of the 12 highly rehearsed competition numbers. Stick with the mrduckbear videos, and always watch until the end. Sometimes (like this time) PTX comes back on to talk after their performance. Occasionally, they don't. But you don't want to miss anything! We've all got our favorite performances, but I won't tell you ahead of time what mine are--don't want to spoil, or try to influence. I love all 12 of them, though. I loved your reaction! I love when people react to them on this series. I think they only had 2 weeks together before this performance, don't quote me on that. What you have here is a group of individuals DEDICATED to their craft and being the best they can be. The other thing is how they pick the member of the group that will be best for that part. They are a team, no "I'm better than you" egos, and they work together to create. It is a once in a lifetime group. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
Incredible! And i just recorded a reaction to the second and third performance and in one of them i expressed a similar feeling. No ego's, the song and performance comes first.
It's been 13 years since they started! Scott recently got married. Kirsti had a baby girl and recently got married too! Mitch is, I think, in a relationship, but I don't know details. Kevin is married and has a daughter. Matt married last year (I think it was) and is expecting his first child (a girl, I think)

The "Kevin's effects" Ben was referring to was actually Avi doing overtone (2 notes ..high/low...at the same times)....he does it again on song 12...look out for it at the beginning of the song. Great reaction...can't wait for you to do more sing off...they get better and better.
Great reaction! Happy to see you doing the Sing Off! They look so young and fresh here! As the season goes on, you can see it's taking a toll although I think every performance is great. They went against some tough competitors, many of who had many more members. And they also had to rehearse and perform in an opening number every week involving all of the groups. The thing that bugged me the most is that Shawn the judge never compliments Kirstie on her singing, only once he mentions her costume.

There are a few of their performances that are just so-so but keep with it…they definitely get better as the series goes. I’m sure others have listed the best ones already. Looking forward to watching you on their prequel journey 😉
There's 14 performances. Plus, when they come back for the season 4 finale and all of the sing off Christmas shows. A fun video is the opening songs from each episode. Those show all of the groups, and as groups get eliminated, you see which groups are the best placed by who are getting the solos and highlights. Just an FYI, the producers were very homophobic and didn't want to showcase Mitch. #12 is the original Mitch slap. But follow the journey in order to see the growth.

When you get to their 4th, 5th, and 6th performances, check out the Dartmouth Aires 4, 5, and 6 as well. I think the Aires were PTX biggest competition and those performances were great too.

They actually had to go to a plan B - they got dumped by the record label almost as soon as they had spent most of their winnings moving to LA. So they went to work on CZcams, and working as independents, and that got them where they are today.

Idk if anyone else mentioned it, but everyone except Mitch is married now. Kevin & his wife just welcomed their 2nd child and I believe Matt's first is either due soon or has recently arrived. There was something posted about them on father's day on their insta. Kirstie also has a child. Scott & Mark have kinda mentioned that they are looking into options, they have written a children's book & a song that goes with it that is aimed at their future child. I think Mitch is in a relationship, I have seen him posted as at a few things holding hands or with the same guy, over the last year or so, no idea how serious it is,

This was my favorite show. I was so upset when they stopped airing it. There are so many talented people that are on here. Of course Pentatonix blew everyone away. To me, they were the best from ALL the seasons, Home free was my second favorite. I still watch all the seasons.

Kirstie actually is married to a guy from one of the other sing off groups and like a year ago had their first child.
I believe she was engaged to Jeremy, a part-time singer with whom she is featured in Voctave’s Disney Love Medley. He subsequently had an affair, they broke up, and she eventually married Ben, the videographer that Pentatonix hired and he is the father of her daughter.
