MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. Hybrid hunter is my confidence bait best bait of all time. My favorite bait. Ay if you know, you know. I do know it's not for everyone. either you get it or you don't. I appreciate you so much Todd for introducing me to this bait. When I get back home to Okeechobee I know I'm going to slap be on'em. Do you have a link and a code? I'm about to drop at least a hundred on so new colors and some Jrs.
great video. I ordered both sizes to use in Florida this winter. Will be fishing BFL's on Harris and Toho. When you were casting shallow and pumping the rod was that because of the weeds. Keep the videos coming.
I believe so.. I fish the smaller one a good bit.. it comes thru grass well but it needs that pump/rip to get thru it… I 100% believe that’s the trigger.. I rarely throw a rattle trap anymore.. this puppy has replaced the rattle trap for me..

Love the Hybrid Hunters. In East TN I will have times they want the big one and somedays they want the small one. You would be surprised how a little dink 8 in small mouth will knock the hell out of the original. Just have 2 rods rigged up and ready to go. I use BPS line(get a great discount) so I use 17lbs test for the original and 14 for the Jr. 17 in the BPS is the same diameter as the 20 he uses.

I've caught a couple on the hybrid hunter but usually just on a stop and go retrieve. I'm intrigued by that "reel then pull" that you are doing! Looks interesting

I noticed the bite window was small too, better be out there. I found them schooling on small shad but it didn’t last all day. It seemed mid day was the best time. Water temperature was 55 in East Tx

Hey man ive been seeing everbody talking about this lure. Pretty cool how you have so much tied to it when it comes to producing this bait. I live in nj and dont have much grass where i fish. Will the HH work well on just wood or rock? Also ive seen some people throw out most of their lipless and squarebill crankbaits and switch them out for these. Do you think this is a better option than a squarebill and lipless? As always though keep up the videos!

Zona did a show years ago when the Hybrid Hunter first came out and he absolutely slayed them on it.
Ask him how long he had it before he ever threw it. A YEAR!!!!! I gave him two and he finally threw it a year later and smoked them on it.

So it’s a good cold water bait? I’ve had good success with them this past summer. Trying to get dialed in on my cranking baits. It’s not easy cranking on the bank. I’ll tie something on when I’m in my yak or boat when I can get in them. But I love the hybrid hunter. Thanks man.

I’ve been trying to find the right line size to get the bait down to the grass up by the bank. You need heavy line to get them out the grass but you need light enough line to touch the grass. Maybe I’m missing something. This might be a private channel question too.

or line the correct density to get it down. All flouro i have used sinks,some sinks faster than others so its worth experimenting. I'm in the UK so brands may vary from across the pond. These days with so many alternatives to mono ,diameter is not as key to getting lures fishing at the depth you want.
Great video! Love to hear your self-talk reasoning. What color do you recommend to imitate bluegill? I live in Northern IL and bluegill seem to be a key forage.
I find that you don’t have to imitate the bait as much as you think and more just match the water clarity to the bait

Man on toledo I've noticed more and more people have absolutely zero problems trolling right up to you and start fishing... the ones that piss me off the most are the guys that will see you catch a fish shut down and run right over your fish then start fishing or get back up on pad and leave. Back in the day them types of things would happen but nowhere near as often as it does these days...
We don’t have that problem in the Atchafalaya. I’ve been wanting to visit TB but I’ve been hearing tons of stuff like this. I’d hate to have to start a game of battleship with a local out there.
I’m 67 years old and have noticed a big change in this behavior over the years and I have a theory about this. When I started fishing over 40 years ago since there was no internet we all read fishing magazines to get information to catch more. Back then all these magazines like field and stream had articles and opinion page that included fishing and hunting etiquette. We were told not to crowd other fishermen out of respect also boat ramp etiquette was written about. I realize lakes have more people on them now but believe there is room for courtesy and respect out there but where do younger fishermen learn these habits ? With the demise of the magazines they don’t. I don’t really know the solution but know no problem can be solved without first identifying the root cause.

The only grass in my lake is Water Willow. So is it a Bait for Grass Only or can you use it for shallow brush and rock?
I'll make a video of catching them on non grass lakes. I've put out some IG stuff and Facebook, but haven't made a CZcams video yet on it.
Im on table rock and other highland resivors, how would this bait apply to those lakes that are clear and no grass? I assume like a plopper bite?

@@toddcastledinefishing5924 sweet looking color. Thanks for the quick reply. On a different note, why is it impossible to get 3/0 and 4/0 owner haymaker hooks? Those hooks are the absolute best hooks I've ever used. I make due with the 2/0 and 5/0 whenever I can.

Did you figure out that the deep fish and grass fish are two different groups that behave differently, or did you know that already? I see you're not giving up the special retrieve. I throw the smaller HH on my local lake and the fish seem to want it fast, then stopped. No grass to speak of, just wood.

What was the secret?
Most still don’t know about it, there are tons of baits that come out every year and never get talked about again, because they really didn’t catch them. If you read the comments they are usually 1 of two things. Guys saying that smashed them on it, or guys asking about it.

this bait is nothing new, maybe new to the way lures are made, plastic vs wood but I used a bait almost identical to the HH except it was wood with a metal lip, and like the HH, it was a killer. I still have a few of them but they are getting harder to find. I love this bait and have several, but its nothing new, it do catch fish though. cats out of the bag, cant put it back now,lol
No need to throw it down anymore because now everybody and their brother is going to be throwing it and everybody in the ponds going to know what it looks like

Obviously I’ll be gtg throwing a redeye in grass with it, but what are your thoughts on throwing the hybrid hunter with the Amistad @toddcastledinefishing5924?

Guys around here haven’t figured out how awesome of a lure it is. Always have it tied on. They replanted my lake with eel and hydrilla 2 yrs ago. That thing is unreal now
