Seeing all these videos of Poughkeepsie, makes me so homesick. Thinking about the great times I had when I was a kid, I really would like to see pictures of the old Big Ben dept store, used to love going there😢

I remember Big Ben, we grabbed some bricks for doorstep when they tore it down.

@@bryflyguytry my sister still lives in down town Poughkeepsie, near the old train bridge. I remember coming home from Overlook elementary one day. The bus was on Degmaro road near the old Purple Parlor car wash and we could see the smoke from the Poughkeepsie train bridge fire. I remember seeing trains on the bridge back in the 60s going to Highland to visit family

Wow, what a blast from the past! Love seeing these videos from Poughkeepsie! I remember going to Caldor's every week with my grandparents and then stopping at Burger King on the corner for lunch afterwards. Also, grocery shopping at the old ShopRite by Kmart!

Losing a major, major job producer like IBM and smaller but mighty ones like DeLaval came at the same time the mall vultures began to surround Poughkeepsie. Where it once held the biggest department store between NYC and Albany, Luckey and Platt, that came to an end. Major second-line stores like Von Der Linden's, a remnant from the days of the Poughkeepsie Regatta went away. The best-known downtown hotel (again between NYC and Albany) The Nelson House had gone. It was only a matter of time before Downtown Poughkeepsie became the sleepy, emptied husk it now is 40 years after this film.
