- Footage of downtown Poughkeepsie shot 1912-1917. Thank you to Dick Crenson and Franc Palaia, Poughkeepsie artists, for use of the footage--all clips were gathered from the collection at the Hyde Park Presidential Library.
I remember my dad buying clothes at Wallace's. But my mom just bought my brother's and my clothes at Caldor's.
I remember buying clothes at the Mod Shop, a department within Wallace's circa 1967. My Aunt Marjorie gave me a $20 gift certificate for Christmas. I still have vivid memories of riding the caged elevator up a couple of floors with a man in a uniform working the sliding doors and controls. I was 12 at the time. My mom was with me. After high school graduation in 1973 I remember buying several beautiful suits at MSchwartz a few doors down. Wonderful fabrics and tailoring. I still have them!

The city was fine until the 70's when it started to go the shit. Today it's a shit hole.

I remember visiting Capital Bakery on lower Main Street after church.
