I was 9 years old the first time along with my family , emigrated from England to Canada.June 1974. Four years later we sailed from Montreal to London , in October of 1978 . A wonderful ship , crew , passengers & food . It was the adventure of a lifetime to cross the Atlantic ocean see dolphins, icebergs. Wonderful memories to have.

I came from Poland to Canada on this beautiful ship in ‘71. I was just a child but have the fondest of memories. The ocean is a magical, mystical space, the fish , massive whales, the air, fresher than u can possibly ever experience! But the night is no joke, the waves crash against the ship so loudly it’ll startle u out of even the deepest sleep. I remember often being unable to eat, as plates, cutlery etc were sliding all over the tables according to waves. An unforgettable experience for sure!

I sailed on the Stefan Batory in 1966 from Halifax to Tilbury. It was a pleasant week-long voyage, with particularly delicious food. However, absolutely everything was in Polish and I was left pretty much to my own devices for the entire trip. Some famous Polish rock band was aboard and they were a big deal whenever they appeared on deck. It was a very memorable trip.
Thanks for posting the video, although I don't remember much but the dining room and the decks, which I walked constantly, enjoying the brisk ocean air.
I should add that my trip was paid for by Air Canada as I had a ticket for a flight from Toronto to London and then AC employees went on strike. AC paid for my train trip to Halifax (in a sleeper car) and then my transport on the Stefan Batory to Tilbury and transport into London. Somehow I can't quite see Air Canada doing that these days!

Escaped from Communist Poland by going on roundtrip sailing from Gdynia - Montreal - Gdynia in August/September 79. End up disembarking in Montreal and newer wet back to Gdynia. Great memories, beautiful ship and great crew, horrible stormy weather.

Sailed to England from Montreal in July 73 when I was a month off 17. A lovely boat. Dreadful, dreadful weather. Adam was our Steward and his sister was a dancer on the ship....stunningly beautiful girl. Oh, I miss being young!

We were on the last crossing from Montreal to Tilbury, England in October 1987. The poor old ship was definitely at the end of her useful life. I won't go into detail about the plumbing issues, electrical problems and the poor food, but we fondly remembered our first crossing in 1974 when the ship was in good shape and the food very good. The crew were still friendly, but there were a number of inefficiencies. Mind you, I'm glad we had the chance to say good-bye to this once splendid little ship. Not only was this the last crossing of the Stefan Batory, it was the last regularly-scheduled Atlantic crossing from Canada. The ship did a further six-months of farewell cruises from England.

Wish I could have sailed on her! Does Poland have any plans for future cruise ships? I think it would be a great marketing idea for Poles in America to "extend their holidays" in the Ojczyzna by sailing on Polish liners or for Caribbean cruises 'po polsku'.... a novel idea!
