    Freediving Blackout Compilation no. 5
A new series of blackouts recorded while doing freediving, mainly practicing dynamic apnea during a 2019 competition. All that is shown was performed in total safety conditions and none of the athletes got hurt in any way.
Blacking out can occur while doing freediving, especially in dynamic apnea, while you learn more and more about yourself. Always be aware of your limits.
Some of the divers shown in the video (not in order):
    - Ilaria Esposito
    - Vitomir Maricic
    - Jimmy Justensen
    - Jindriska Zajacova
    - Malte Striegler
    - Florian Grauer
    - Yeremy Rosales
    - Luciano Morelli
    - Ivana Aljinovic
Remember to stay safe and never dive alone!

Judge: who told you to get her?
    Rescue: She told me

That sounds unprofessional and disappointing. I know that as judges, they want each contestant to be at their best, but I think the safety made the right call. I think even if the diver makes it to the wall, she won't be conscious enough to do the surface protocol. And the "we talk about it right now" while the diver is still recovering, that's so rude.

I find free diving to be such a terrifying sport and I never thought about until a day or two ago. To me human nature makes us strive to be our best and to push ourselves to our limits and practice helps get us there. In this particular sport if a person misjudges what they have left within them then consequences are dire. It's one thing to be in a pool with safety crew and quite another to go vertical by oneself to the depths of the ocean. This sport is so intense. I watched a competition last night where 130 meters was reached and my chest hurt and it got harder for me to breathe. I had to quit watching it...Lol..🙏

I guess there are a lot of close situations where diver's can keep themselves from blacking out. And if they get saved by the safety divers, the dive won't be counted. So the safety's wait till it's to dangerous to keep going on.

    • @marksaus
      @marksaus Před rokem +2

Both because being rescued invalidates your dive, and because sometimes being "saved" without needing to can cause decompression accidents. Though this second reason doesn't apply in a pool!

Specifically, LMC - "Loss of motor control." Immediately prior to blackout, one is usually still partly conscious but unable to control movements--he seems to be trying to get his head above water, and failing that, grabbing a bit more air as he falls under. LMC recoverable without help (if you breath) and not know to be harmful, which is why in competition the safety divers are trained to let you LMC before rescue, to prevent unnecessary disqualification. The person in the video person however doesn't seem to be in a competition setting or even a serious training setting for a number a reasons, and didn't have a proper safety--very dangerous and very likely would have died if that person hadn't jumped in. I hope they were at least trying to safety, albeit without training.
