I go surf fishing every day, 8-12 hours per day, and here are my pro tips:
- use bright colored speckled floats and eggs to try and attract the fish.
- shrimp could get expensive over time, so use medium and small sandfleas along with fingernail size fishbites (sandflea or shrimp flavor)
- if using shrimp, cut the body with shell-on into small chunks and dehydrate by putting it into the fridge for a couple of days until the meat is rubbery. This will make the shrimp stay on the hook better when casting. They also love eating the head, but cut off the horns and keep the head frozen.
- it’s not about how many rods you have but how often you change your bait. It’s pointless to have 10 rods sitting still with empty hooks. Change your bait every 20-30 minutes regardless so that when casting the sound of the weight hitting the water will attract the fish.
- don’t feel bad if the fisherman next to you is catching a lot of fish and you are catching none. Fish cannot swim forever. They get tired and have to stop, rest and eat. If there are 10 rods, maybe only 1-2 rods will get all the hits because the school of fish decided to park there. Just keep on re-baiting and casting to try and attract the school over to your rods. If still no fish after an hour or two, then move to a different spot.
Solid tips
Ya I run two rods and walk back and forth and cast probably 3-5 times each rod every 30 mins lol. I look like a psycho but I’m catchin fish non stop cause I’m always re baiting them if I reel in and nothings on. Non stop baiting and casting n walking but I’ve literally never left the beach without at least 1 keeper. Keeping em baited is the key. Thanks for the shrimp tip! That’ll help a lot to keep the bait on. Once thawed they always fly off. Wondered how to make them harder.

Just wonderful, been searching for "baiting hook surf fishing" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Wenayden Xenaylee Blaster - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy got amazing success with it.

After fishing for hours with no luck using the basic setup on the rod at the rental where I'm staying at Indian Rocks beach, found this video, rigged up the pompano rig described in this video and hit the beach. I consistently reeled in fish for the next two hours right up until sunset. This video was a game changer, can't thank you enough!

This is definitely one of the best videos for beginners I’ve seen so far! Thanks for explaining how circle hooks work... I primarily fish for large mouth bass, so the tendency to set the hook is a reflex that is hard to subdue. You covered a lot of points that so many other ‘beginner ‘ videos leave out or touch on without giving the level of detail that you do. Keep up the good work!
