Mini Cooper R53 Overheating Because a PS Pump Fan

  • In this week video we have my own car a 2002 mini cooper s r53 which it was overheating every time i was in traffic or stationary, knowing that, i knew the coolant system was ok regarding water pump, thermostat etc, i also knew that the cooling fan was working because i tested it about a year and half ago but it wasn't coming on for some reason.
    i had to go through some diagrams and electrical testing finding the culprit which it was the power steering pump fan seized up, i was very surprise i never thought the power steering pump system could bring the cooling system down...
    Cheers
    Hey everybody, Igor here from Cars Exposed thanks for tuning in.
    I will be uploading videos here every week Thursday at 18:30 sharing my experiences working around cars on my driveway, exposing issues, auto repair, auto electric, oil changes, services, projects and more...

    I know this is a 4 year old video but by the sounds of it you also need a new cooling fan. most of the time the stage one fan will go out due to the resistor in the fan and then cause blown fuses or you get a cycling stage 2 fan. the reason the fuse isnt blowing anymore is due to the ps fan not drawing the extra current that the bad radiator fan needed. so in a sense it stopped overloading the system. you fixed part of the problem but not the cause of it.

    I have a 2006 mini cooper s . The cooling fan resistor responsible for the low speed fan operation went bad just over the warranty. Consequently, the cooling fan ran at high speed constantly. The dealer( stealer) wanted over 600 US dollars to change out the whole fans assembly because the resistor was in the fan shroud. I call them stealership because I have another story about a flood damaged Jeep Rubicon they almost sold me. (I was very stupid at the time)
    I fixed this so long ago I forgot exactly where I put another resistor in the control circuit which has been working for now 11 yrs. There is a relay that send the electricity to the circuit that feeds the fan resistor.
    Given that hint and search google for the fan resistor and you will find the post where I found the fix for it by another guy.

I have tested the fan at both speed using a battery direct to fan plugs and that work fine. However, unlike in your video, I cannot get the fans to run with the PS fan unplugged. Hello, I have a question. where did you get that tool (OBD) to diagnose your car?

  • @T.A.T.
    @T.A.T. Před rokem +1

    First off, FYI, There is a Power Steering Recall. I just had mine serviced last year in June 2021 and by July I was sitting in traffic also and my car overheated. They told me before servicing it that the power steering fan and the engine fan are both on the same fuse so if the fuse goes, they both malfunction. Well I checked all the fuses and none of them were blown. So I took the car back and they said if it had to do with what they did for the recall, they would warranty their work well, of course, it was something else ( they say). Now I have no power steering at all and they say it is a 16amp fuse that is in the fusebox located under the engine fusebox and apparently it's Not that fuse that runs both the fans. So I'm on here doing research and have found 2 vids that show that particular fuse box but no 16 amp fuse in it. It shows 2-50 amps, 1-100 amp and a 05 amp. I'm so confused as to where this fuse goes. Can anyone Help Me?! The fuse only cost around $10 but they want $400 plus to change it! SOS!!!

    Anyone see the advert for the Drone X beware i ordered one 2 months ago still not Received it, I should have googled the reviews first I took it that if it was advertised on CZcams must be ok apparently not youtube do not regulate the advertisers on their channels !! it's a scam the product itself apparently (those who have received one ) is nothing like what this advert claims is a cheap chinese import poor quality item I will post a review IF i get it but doubt it.
