  • In this video, I cover my 6 months with the Casio A700, possibly the thinnest Casio watch money can buy. I initially bought this as it appeared to be the thinnest Casio digital watch.

hi ben. I've had the A700WM-7A for about 2 - 3 years now. despite it easily being my cheapest watch it is the one I wear the most by far. in terms of digital watches I don't think you can beat it in terms of understated elegance while still keeping it practical and slightly retro

The water resistance of this watch is underrated. I moved the module out of the case, then immersed it into a glass of water, pressed all the three keys under the water, droped it into the water from a feet height, and kept flushing it in tapping water. After all these tests, I opened the case again and found no trace of water at all. The seals for the keys and the back, in my opinion, are indentical to those in Casio AQS810W series, which are designed to have 10 bar water resistance. After I put the module back, I can finally shower with it without any concerns, and it survived as I expected.

I'm still waiting for that metal version, too, as I mentioned before.

Being a Casio fan, I still prefer my 1982 Pulsar "Running Man" vintage digital all steel watch before those popular retro A168 etc models with resin cases. However, this one (the light grey dial one) I would consider. It's more refined than the usual retro models. I don't see it as feminine at all, just having a sleeker modern design. I have a similar bracelet on a mechanical but ultra-thin Sea-Gull, and it's just ridiculously comfortable.
Happy Holidays, Ben, and keep up the god work for hopefully a better 2021 for all of us. As an old geezer, I really appreciate that you show young people (hopefully watching) that good watches don't have to be that expensive, and that there are way better (and more affordable) alternatives than the crappy over prized fashion watches that are targeted to them on social media etc. Cheers.

This is such a great watch! I purchased mine well over a year ago thanks to your review Ben. I really do think this is mineral glass as the dial is completely free of scratches. The case obviously has plenty. I also want to report on the Water Resistance. I have showered in this watch many times, been in the ocean with it on several occasions and even decided to submerge it in water for 3 full days. No issues at all. This watch is a beast and the most comfortable timepiece I have ever worn. I can’t recommend the A700 enough. This is by far my most inexpensive watch, yet, I find myself wearing it all of the time. Thanks Ben!

I have the black one. Love the design, thickness and the bracelet. I only wish the case is s.steel.

I put it onto a Nato for extra lightness, I love how non existent it is. Especially when working on my computer.

I have the grey one & it's definitely mineral glass. You have the A700WE whereas mine's the A700W, only for the Asian market which is where I sourced mine. The glass so far is scratch free, but sounds worryingly thin when you tap it.

Just seen this review after 6 months and agree with everything you say. One point that's just a wee gripe from me is that it's virtually impossible to keep fingerprints and grease from the shiny, 'chrome' surfaces unless I keep the watch clear of clothing by wearing a t-shirt or short-sleeve shirt! But when carefully wiped it actually looks quite classy for a watch that some people might consider a woman's, or worse still - a kids, watch!!!

That's the most gorgeous digital watch Casio ever made, IMO. It's just tragic that it's so small; with my 7.5' wrist, I don't think I could ever pull it off! 😭

I'd definitely pay a premium for exactly the same watch but with a metal case. I love my a700we, just wish it was more durable in the long run against scratching and a bit more water resistant so I could go swimming with it.

Thx for the follow-up. I purchased the darker one with the retro band based on your first video. I have to agree that this is a great all day wear. I have hairy arms and the band hasn't caused any pulls that I've noticed. Thx a ton for the review. I love this watch.

solar cell in the dial, radio synchronisation, always on (or regular hands), auto DST time switching. in all a zero hassle watch (Casio wave captor or Citizen eco drive), always on time, and a nice design to boot. If this A700 can do all that, then I'll certainly consider it.

0:23 My biggest complaint concerning most of digital watches from Casio is the lack of a countdown timer function. There are only two non-G-Shock models I know of that have that functionality: W-202 and B-640. Sadly, neither of them come in a metal case variant.

SKMEi makes a less costly clone with the mesh band (which I'd likely replace). It purports to have a metal case and glass window. Only one seller on eBay has it (for about $12 US). I may get one. I like the thinner body which shouldn't bounce around as much as thicker cases, and not get caught on a shirt sleeve-cuff. Thick, heavy watches are just impractical. I just wish they'd put the month on these (often needed for work, writing cheques, etc.). Casio only makes thicker models that have that feature -- and will never learn..

I have the gold version and borrowed black metal straps from another Casio watch I have. Looks very nice and dressy but not "too much" like it did with the golden straps on.

I absolutely love mine. Bought it after your review, and also have been wearing it constantly. Will NEVER sell or trade it. Period.
I almost ruined it. Long story, but got stuck on a roof. Used a pole to get down, thus busting the strap clasp. OK, looked for days for a replacement bracelet. Finally found a replacement mesh bracelet, but here's the deal: The way the milenese strap that comes with the watch is designed, it's wider at the connection, and is--hence--"part" of the design.
OK, so the replacement milinese bracelet arrives. Unfortunately, it's not flared at the top, even though it looked like it on the website I bought it from. Wasn't cheap, but is a close match to stock bracelet, sans the "needed" flaring at the top. That's when I have an epiphany, of sorts. All I really need is the strap pin from the new bracelet. It came with two strap pins, of course. What happened is I popped the pin out of clasp, that the clasp catches, and then you lock by pressing down lightly. I bent the bent clasp, gently back together, inserted the strap pin into it, and held my breath. Could this work? The strap pin certainly clicked into position, was strong, and looked very similar to the original, tiny little bar. I attached the hook clasp. OK, so far, so good. LOL. I pushed down gently, not truly believing it would lock. It freaking locked. My baby was back in business. Held on to the replacement strap, in case I have to use it at a future date.
I can't say why exactly I love this watch so much, but I would only (and then I'd probably regret it) trade it for a handful of watches that I want, but don't have: Seiko SARB 033, Marathon General Purpose, and a Hamilton Khaki King.
I actually just talked myself into buying a backup, so I'm going to go do that. Oh, one final thing: If they offered this exact same watch, with a stainless steel case and sapphire crystal, I would be willing to pay up to $300 for it, even with the same internals and strap. I know about the stainless steel versions you mentioned, but they just don't have the design that makes this watch special.
By the way, I'm a collector of cheap watches that punch above their weight. Your responsible for several of my watches. Your recommendations have been spot on. Thank you, keep up the great work, and Merry Christmas.
