    Ever since I bought the Lorus in September 2020 after watching your video, I'm a sucker for this watch! Before that I had a Seiko Samurai and the weight difference was surprising in a welcome way, you just don't know the watch is here, there were times I thought I forgot it at home (or worse, lost it) only to look at my wrist and there it was.
    I have it on a brown Laco aviator strap and it looks fire. It's the watch I wear the most often. The two other watches I wear quite often as well are the F91W and a Seiko Tank I got for 30€ (20€ for the watch and 10€ for a battery swap).
    If I ever want to reduce my collection, this would the perfect 3 watch collection, with everyday, beater and dress being each covered.

    Not to undermine this already stellar video; but if you want a lightweight, compact Timex "field watch"; I'd actually suggest the "Camper" series. I picked up a T40011 for $30 USD recently and I'm super pleased with it. Resin 38mm case, 20mm lugs, and 100m of water resistance- all coming from a watch under the Expedition umbrella. I actually got it to replace my W735H as a more practical beater and WOW it's great on a different strap.😅

    Thank you for very useful information provided in this video.
    I've got some to add that you might find helpful.
    I come from China, and I am familiar with these Shanghai hand wound watches.
    The caliber inside these watches is the Shanghai Watch Factory Cal. 7120, but known in other parts of China as the Unified Movement SS1. This movement was designed in 1970s by the Chinese Ministry of Light Industry.
    The government gathered skilled technicians and watchmaking experts from around the nation to build a movement that is easy to mass produce, as cheap as possible and has decent performance. It sounded overly ambitious, but they did it.
    The result was a simple hand wound movement with crude finishing that you doubt whether it would work, but the performance was surprisingly good: error less than 30s a day, 36 hours of power reserve, effective shock resistance and dirt cheap.
    At its peak in 1980s these movements were produced by a dozen of state-owned enterprises around China in enormous amounts: 30 MILLION pieces a year!
    So much of these get produced that you can still find loads of new old stock movements in China today, for 50 CNY (6 quids) each. Just install one of these into a random case and you get your watch, and trust me, they are not bad.

    I have a thing for titanium due to how my skin reacts to a lot of stainless steel watches. So the fact that the Lorus titanium is under $100 AND has a quartz movement which will be very beneficial for my working life (I already own a titanium auto, the Boldr Venture), has landed the Lotus onto my wish list quickly!

      If you like to do swim training, the timex ironman cannot be beat. It has a countdown/repeat audio alarm that will allow you to do repeat sets (like 10 x 100 yards on 1:25) or give you an audio underwater pacing signal for a long swim (like 500, 1000, or 1650 yards). As far as I know there is no other watch that can substitute for a large poolside clock in this way .. I've been using it for this purpose exclusively since the 1980s.

      How do you like the watch after receiving it? Do you have any comparison to the Duro? I am thinking of buying 1053 since 106/107 doesn’t seem to be available in full blue anymore

    • @BTBHSOHBOY
      @BTBHSOHBOY Před rokem +1

      @@adalbert93_75 It's really, really good. The finishing is good, the dial is lovely, and the size is perfect. The bezel is way more grippy than the Duro, but has a bit more backplay and wobble. It's also only 90 clicks, which is an odd move, seeing as this is ostensibly a proper diver. My only major gripe is the lume, which is awful, but I expected that, since the Duro has terrible lume too
      An unexpected surprise is the bracelet, which is really comfortable. It's got hollow end links and folded links, but the links are rolled tight enough that they don't pull on arm hairs, even if you have extremely hairy arms like me. The clasp, however, is very small, has only one hole of microadjust, and is not replaceable. Not a dealbreaker by any means, but it means you're not guaranteed to get a perfect fit. The endlinks are also extremely thin and flimsy, so be careful not to bend them if you swap out the bracelet for a different strap.
      All told, this is an awesome watch. There are far better-spec'd offerings from Chinese brands that feature sapphire, solid link and solid endlink bracelets, milled clasps, automatic movements, and ceramic bezel inserts. Some budget Chinese brands are even starting to dip their toes into original designs instead of carbon copies of bigger companies. However, if you're looking for a big-brand diver with original styling, this is an excellent choice.
