  • SCIENCE! For this video, we take a revisit at my friend Kody's Paxton supercharged Coyote 5.0 Mustang- now using E85. Today we take a crash course on the fuel, and talk about it's impact to the automotive performance world. From super cars to Mustangs, the possibilities of this fuel is pretty incredible. Thanks for watching and hope you learned something! Social stuff, Tshirts, and more below!

    E85: Why corn is my favorite vegetable.
    Beautiful car! Can't believe that a simple change in fuel could add nearly 150+ HP!

      +Kingdom Of Mog Depending on the type of corn it could be either a grain or vegetable. The corn humans eat is a vegetable, while almost all other types of corn are grains. I'm from Iowa so don't feel bad.

      cuz turn up boost

    • @woosvt6739
      @woosvt6739 Před 8 lety

      +Ashton Murch no, not boost, timing, He said he didnt change anything but the fuel. e85 allows you to turn the timing up because it runs way cooler than e85. Its comparable to 110 octane fuel.

    • @whatchu_talkin_john_willis
      @whatchu_talkin_john_willis Před 8 lety +1

      +WooSVT with timing, more is not always better. depending on engine combustion size, shape and engine configuration there will only be one optimum timing setting for max power but this is usually (but not always) limited by the fuels detonation resistance. I would almost guarantee that they are running more boost to the engine now with the booze fuel.

  • @ThatDudeinBlue
    @ThatDudeinBlue  Před 8 lety +83

    Clearing a few things up left out of the video- E85 isn't directly responsible for the power gains, but tuning with different timing is where the power comes mostly from in a nut shell. You do need to have it properly tuned. As for some direct injection systems some high pressure fuel pumps need the lubricant gasoline gives to function properly although is rarer nowadays. You also will need to have a flex fuel system if you'd like to switch from pump to E85 on the go, along with the supporting mods.
    Have an amazing day.

    • @Zankaroo
      @Zankaroo Před 8 lety

      +ThatDudeinBlue You know I've always thought it was funny how everybody refers to fuel as pump gas and E85. Last I check E85 comes from the same pump as standard gasoline. So E85 is pump gas. Even though its technically not gasoline as its 85% is ethanol. So I guess we need to start trying to get people to use proper names for fuels like gasoline, diesel, ethanol, alcohol, natural gas and any racing variation of the before mentioned.

      Just a BAP on a boosted car for e85?.....dumb, you want plenty of head pressure over the injector, a bap on a boosted car on e85 is asking for trouble, full fuel system or nothing.

    Another benefit to E85 is it burns cooler, and can actually lower your intake air temps after the fuel is added. My buddy had a twin-turbo 351W in his '68 F-100 that would actually get condensation on the intake because the fuel would cool the air so much. E85 is awesome!

    My Supra is on E85 and It's a love/ hate relationship. Yes my MPG sucks really bad but E85 here in Texas is literally a $1 per gallon. So what you lose in MPG you gain back in money!
    And secondly my car was run on E85 for about 3 years with no service done to any of the fuel system and that turned out to be bad. I just took them out to be cleaned and hope that it fixes some of my idle issues!

    Very nice car!!! A couple of things about the E85 I thought I should add though; In theory, you only need 30% more volume compared to normal pump fuel- however, the usable window of A/R ratio you can use is 5 - 6 times boarder than normal pump fuel (that means it's quiet easy to get the fueling tuned right as it's not quiet as critical to get the mixtures within a very narrow window like it is with normal pump fuel) AND it is a highly oxygenated fuel... Meaning, than no longer is lean mean, a rich mixture will create more power with E85 or any ethanol based fuel with a greater content of ethanol. That is probably why the Mustang's fuel economy has gotten so much worse. Also the richer the mixture, the greater the cooling effect on the inlet charge in boosted cars. E85 has a very high latent heat of vaporization; meaning it draws a lot of heat out of it's surroundings as it vaporizes and atomizes. It effectively creates a chemical intercooling effect that can pull 80 - 100 deg out of the inlet on a boosted car. Guys with roots blowers and injector hats get condensation build up on the hat itself because of this cooling effect, they get that cold they almost freeze up!!!
