    A very nice and playful review. I read with both Wahoo Roam and Karoo 2 (but not at the same time) and I prefer the Karoo. Yes, I do use a SIM card, but it is really not necessary. My biggest problem with the Karoo is the battery life when I’m doing century rides. I have a 90-degree angle USB-C cord which I can use to charge the device while riding. All told, Karoo makes a great device and Hammerhead is a great company. Did I mention that they spent about an hour on video call with me listening to feedback? Try that with Wahoo or Garmin.

    I've been a happy Wahoo Bolt v1 user for a few years having switched from Garmin. I just now made another brand leap to the Karoo2. Helping my justification is the Wahoo is starting to have screen pixel issues plus Hammerhead have a trade in program where they will give me $100 for my Wahoo........Appreciate your video for having a solid mix of the important and useful vs Unicorn poo would be better if it had a 50 day battery and App addiction dopamine fix.....

    I couldn't agree more on almost anything you said about the Karoo2 except for the mount, it might just be something you have to get used to after being brainwashed with quater turn mount and dismounting your bike computer. There is however one big plus for the Karoo2 system and that is when the hard buttons are used, and during winter that might just be the case, it is impossible to dismount your computer unwanted while trying to operate your computer with your numb cold fingers.

    Getting back into cycling and am an older vintage MAMIL and loving your videos as I re-learn the cycling world. So in the end would you recomend this over the Wahoo? I certainly prefer it over the Garmin 840 considering features are similar, this is a larger screen and the pricing.

  • @messi9991
    @messi9991 Před rokem +2

    Would buy one if they made it smaller and thus battery would also last longer. I get the larger screen is good for navigation but I barely use navigation. I always familiarise myself with my route beforehand and really only need queues and sometimes an overview of the map of what's ahead. And obviously 8 hour battery life is not good enough. I have been edging towards that in ride time, so with stopped time I am already well above that.

    Great overview - I'm looking for a back-up to my sometimes flaky Bolt V2 so this post appealed. On the product link to Wiggle that you provided it says it is still supporting Campagnolo EPS, SRAM eTap and Garmin Varia electronic systems so I wonder if Wiggle is out of date?
    I'm a big fan of the Varia and know you are too - does it pair with that OK?

    • @Sportivecyclist
      @Sportivecyclist  Před rokem +1

      Hi there. Yes, it pairs fine with the Varia. There are a couple of shots in the video where you can see it working (maybe in the battery close up section). Re: the electronic gears, it's only Shimano Di2 which isn't supported - SRAM eTap and (I assume) Campag EPS still work. The issue was on the Shimano side - not Hammerhead. So the Wiggle descriptions sounds as if it's correct.

    Mount failure is a problem with the Garmin mounts , which were designed for watches.
    Rather have to fight it off, than pick it up off the road.

  • @Peakabike
    @Peakabike Před rokem +1

    Thanks for the review, entertaining and useful, as always ! Bummer about the loss of Di2...and I'm not sure what they mean with their bolded "all other Di2 features will continue working" (or something like that), er...what would these be ?
    CLIMBER looks nice on paper...however climbs mostly matter to me when I'm on a long outing in the mountains and in that case it's unlikely I wouldn't have a route programmed.
    But as with Wahoo products my "beef" is that I'd be losing the integration into the Garmin "fitness" ecosystem and "true-up" with my Forerunner running watch. As well as all the nifty ConnectIQ apps. A couple of years ago I went the Wahoo+Coros way and...went back to Garmin with the (admittedly clunky) Edge 530 and Forerunner 955. Guess they've got me !

    • @Sportivecyclist
      @Sportivecyclist  Před rokem +1

      HI Paul - it'll sort of fit in a Wahoo mount, but because their mounts are at 90 degrees to Garmin, this would put in 'landscape' orientation (which the Karoo doesn't do). I imagine they or someone will do a Wahoo conversion mount.

    Shame that now in 2024 there are still many Apps which only work on Garmin and even if App developers go non Garmin it will be Wahoo first. Karoo needs the Karoo 3 and another bumper upgrade to really make a dent in the Garmin dominated cycle computer world…sad but sticking to my Garmin because I have to.

    PLEASE read the may MANY posts on the Hammerhead forum about the continuous issues with re-routing in the navigation software
    Basically it just does not work, it keeps getting worse and worse with every update that HH launches.
    No matter if you are on the road, gravel, off-road or single-tracks it keeps failing.
    Many users are requesting an option to be able to turn rerouting off for months now, but HH is unwilling to implement this.

    After my second Garmin Edge 520 died unexpectedly I decided to try something different - the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt instead of the Garmin 530. Boy! I'm glad I did. czcams.com/users/postUgkxXZCtB-wGdHVTBSz8RswePK5vllHNi06N The display on the Wahoo Bolt is much easier to read. I like the configuration of the display more (up to 7 items visible on page 1 without scrolling and the first item chosen is larger characters than the next 3 rows that have pairs of items (still very readable). I also like the configurable item selections. The Bolt synced with my Garmin ANT+ Speed sensors on both bikes easily so no additional investment was required there. While the rated battery life is a couple hours less than the Garmin 520/530, I easily get a weeks worth of 1+ hour rides before recharging (and it's never really low on charge). At the end of a ride syncing to the Wahoo app, Strava, and Apple Health app is painless.
