    Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this CZcams channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

      Mario Mercado Some cultures and people aren’t as blessed as others. Kara and Nate literally said there are no roads to where they were. Have you ever checked out how much farming equipment is, not to mention shipping of it? These families make the most of their situations with what they have. Long before there were fat cows like we see in the US, before tractors and other farming equipment, this is how people had to work. They are simply surviving without a nice cushy desk job like I have. I feel for animals, but I feel for people too.

      That’s nothing to the poor street dogs in Egypt. They’re treated horrible.
      Or the goats searching food in trash in the middle of Cairo.
      Or the thin carriage horses which slip whilst going downhill the Gizeh Plateau.
      Or the lousy cats begging for food.
      Honestly, modern Egypt is a nightmare regarding animals, overpopulation & trash.
      But the ancient sites are amazing and that’s why I’ll go back.

    You know, I'm right there with you guys on getting to see the local villages. I can't get ENOUGH of them when you do river cruises. You get to see the most authentic look at life for the average citizen of that country, you get to see the most sincere reactions of the locals, and they're usually SO happy to see you (especially the kids, and I wonder if they've ever even seen a camera before). I'm always so glad when you go to these places because these are truly the places that generally no one sees and, because of you two, _we_ get to. Thank you sooo much! ❤❤❤❤

      FireCracker3240, yes the kids have seen cameras and most all of them have cell phones. How do I know, lived there for two year and I'm married to an Egyptian.

    • @beckypincalifornia1985
      @beckypincalifornia1985 Před 5 lety +2

      Those kids have seen cameras before. That is why they were "hamming it up".
      I have been travelling to out-of-the-way places for 40 years. During more recent trips, I am amazed at how the kids (and their parents) are aware of technology (mobile phones, cameras, videos, computers, Internet, energy) and are multilingual. Kids are sponges, and soak it all up!
      During my first trips to remote villages, noone had TVs. By 2000, there were satellite TV dishes everywhere. More and more solar panels. Just look up ... at the roof tops.
      Of course, not everyone has everything. However, most are aware of and many have access to a lot of the technology.
      THANKS to teachers, government spending, foreign aid, NGOs, and travellers!

    For everyone talking about the physical state of the cows: yes, they are emaciated. However, this is how many people make a living and some people in rural Egypt can barely afford enough food to feed their families let alone the cows. Hopefully Kara and Nate can address this in another video but do not be so quick to berate the farmers, many of us in western cultures are fortunate enough to be able to feed ourselves with income left over for fun activities while people across the globe in underdeveloped regions have to rely on very few resources to survive.

    • @anna_m59
      @anna_m59 Před 5 lety +32

      M B there is enough grass why are those cows are so skinny. You can see they ribs.

    • @FireCracker3240
      @FireCracker3240 Před 5 lety +22

      I've noticed that, in most other countries (i.e. India), most of the cattle is very thin. I think it comes from lack of resources for these farmers & workers. It's sad and I feel terrible for the animals, but it's just a way of life in other cultures. I just have to respect that it's different out there than it is here in my country, where people can afford to feed their cattle more than just grass.

    • @FABAGENT

    Another great video. I love the positive vibes I get from your videos and how fair they are when rating places. As for the cow segment, it's not their job to inspect the conditions or judge people. They're not contributing to anything by showing that segment. They just documented the working conditions of the farmers. Most of these villages don't have enough money to get machinery and so they use cows. Those farmers take care of their cows as much as they are able to in their living conditions, because they're the only things that bring bread to their table. So before bashing the farmers and the beautiful couple here, people should really think about the conditions of the place in which all of this is happening.

    I like what Kara said "There's nothing wrong about touristy places, we are all about touristy places, it's just fun to switch it up sometimes". Unlike many travel vloggers who would go to places and complain like "There are so many tourists", yet he/she is ONE of them. Most of us go to touristy places because we don't know any better and likes to be in places that are accessible and known, there should be no judgement as long as we enjoy it! Glad Kara isn't a travel snob even though they have been to many places that are off the beaten path. That's why their vlogs are always so positive and pleasure to watch!

    Nate: I have been reading the complaints about the cows. I appreciate you showing us what life is like there. It will cause me to be more generous towards the people when I am on my Nile cruise in December.
