Apologies for so many comments,using the raccoon tool or similar would also give an indication of any impurities or fusil oils coming through the distillation, as the discolouration would show up against the white, I don’t have a raccoon bone but have used the cotton buds on a toothpick and gives first indicator before going to parrot where fusil oils float.also you can swipe inside of tube to check for any sulphites. Coming through at end of run,. I am using an old fashioned copper still set up in nz making moonshine .Cheers hope this is helpful

Then i took a look at some of the comments you received. i would ask you future readers to do their own research instead of the advice that was given so far. I'm not trying to insult anyone. It just our dying craft. i guess i should put it. Our heritage needs to be told right, not by guessing or someone that ran a time or two and believe they know how it is done
Nice video Bluebird,Could I clarify why moonshiners don’t use hydrometers, the purchase could be tracked by authorities and give them away ;)

Hi Austin, I'll try to do more moonshine ones, I need to think of more video ideas. Let me know if you have any. I went to Tennessee. I didn't get to go Nashville or Memphis. I was about 3 hours outside of Knoxville, so there wasn't much to see. The nature was very beautiful though, and I got to go to the Old Country Store, Bojangles, and The Waffle House for the very first time. I really like the Waffle House.🙂

Oh Sweet you got to see The Old Country Store, Cracker Barrel has a good Breakfast! The waffle house is my favorite too lol.
So Happy you got to see some Beautiful places. Tennessee has some very Beautiful and Amazing places to visit. Lookout Mountain Especially During Christmas is pure Magical.

I think you meant cheap "alcoholmeter" not hydrometer, a hydrometer is used for measuring the percentage of alcohol in a fermented drink like beer or wine, whereas an alcoholmeter is used for measuring spirits! great video looking forward to future episodes!
Hi, yes I specifically mean alcoholmeter. An alcoholmeter is considered to be a type of hydrometer though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrometer
