German WWII Field Kitchen (Gulaschkanone) - Unboxing!

  • Today I have quite the unboxing for you guys! A 400-kilogram package just arrived at my door containing a German military field kitchen (Gulaschkanone) from WWII! This original German field kitchen from WWII is a Kleine Feldküche (Hf.14), or small field kitchen. I bought this field kitchen, technically unseen a few months ago, and it finally arrived today - I have not really seen it yet, so let's go through it together. I have always been interested in the German field kitchens and the highly important role they played in both the first and the second world wars. For some reason I always wanted one, for as long as I can remember - the look of them really appealed to me - so now I collect and restore them, bringing them back to their former glory. Although it is not technically in a box, I have to quickly unbox, or perhaps I should say - unwrap and unstrap this thing, disassemble it and get it ready for sandblasting.

    Welcome to the "WWII History & Reenacting" CZcams channel!
    The main focus of this channel is primarily military history, mainly within the second world war (WW2) timeframe. The channel features various content, such as videos on metal detecting, magnet fishing, exploring and visiting historical sites, collecting militaria, reenactment, restoration etc. I'm a WW2 reenactor/living history enthusiast and many of my videos feature tutorials, kit reviews, reenactment footage and information about the hobby. I mainly portray the German side within the timeframe. Collecting militaria is a huge part of my life. Unboxing videos, collectible presentations, and collecting tips, as well as metal detecting and relic hunting are also typical videos on the channel.
    This channel is strictly non-political and my videos are meant to be fun, educational, and informative

    Thank you Sir! I can’t tell you how much a warm meal means when you’re in the field for weeks. Some of the best meals I have had in the Army were from our Regimental Cooks from our “flying kitchens”. I can just imagine what that old kitchen would have meant to the soldiers who it was attached too. Thank you.

      Thank you. Good Luck to you with your projects. Mine are less ambitious: weapons , uniforms, Abzeichen , etc collections. My last stay in Germany I bought a Russian M-72 Sidecar rig dressed as a R-61 BMW in war time paint. I am going back to Aachen for a few weeks in December and January. Watch the internet for the Veterama in the spring and fall, alternating between Ludwigshafen and Mannheim. There are many things to look at and buy. It is like a big Floh Markt )fe
      la martket). I have seen much military stuff, much junk. Veterama.de on the internet.

    My interest in Field Kitchens lead me to buying my own US MKT (Mobile Kitchen Trailer). Mine was made in 1998 but its a cooking machine and can server 300 people in an hour. 6 Diesel electric burners throwing out 30,000 BTU each. They fit into 2 ovens and 4 cooking slots that can be used as individual burners or cast iron griddles of which I have two. Problem is I need a 2.5 ton truck to pull it with and that's going to take me awhile to get.

    That stamp is interesting! 250/1936 we're these not specially made for troops un ww2 then? I thought it looked like more it was number 250 out of 1936? Abit of a coincidence the date just with it nearly 3 years before ww2 is interesting in when and exactly what it was used for before!? Maybe it was 250 of 350 the bottom number then quite alot of them built if that's correct and there was normally 2 part I love these myself for some weird reason haha!

      The Gulaschkanone was invented in 1818 and was used since then. Prity similar models are still used today in many european Armies with German/ Austian &Hungerian history (so the countries that where in the dimentiion of the both Kaiserreich's before 1914) they are well thougt and designed and where one component of the vitory over France 1870/71 in the allready kind of Blitzkrieg from Preusia.

    Truly amazing find, but uh. if I may ask, where might I able to find a Norwegian M1914 Uniform, or a Norwegian Legion Uniform? I’ve been looking for a M1914, and was wondering if looking at Finn.NO or any other website was the best option for finding one, or for anything else. I’ve been watching you videos for a while, and I’d just to like to say thank you for what you’ve done as well.

      They are getting very hard to find, at least in good shape - I found both of mine in Norway. Most of them were either scrapped for metal, converted to stoves, converted and modernized with gas burners, used and scraped by post-war armies, or simply just rusted away. But once in a while, you can get lucky! :)

      @@sleepypipit9631 I don't know, as this convertion was not commercially done, it was done by individuals, but I think its highly unlikely to find one of those as they were most likely scrapped a long time ago. And they were probably as you say, chopped up for installation.

    When people talk about the German Army during WWII they think the Germans were so much more advanced than the Allies. But looking at the difference between German and US field kitchens paints a different picture.

    • @rzwerg8085
      @rzwerg8085 Před 2 lety

      hmm you meand the German Kitchen was 100times better because you just need to stop the truck or horsewagon(it ws invented 1818) and can start to make a dish and coffe sametime very close at the front line? (while the US use are use stationary kitchen that can only do one thing)
      Btw they are still use similar models in many Armies in Europe and is used at many Festivals (nothing is better than a peasoup from a Gulaschkanone with some sausages)
