  • In this video, I demonstrate how to change the fuel injectors in a second generation 2004 through 2009 Toyota Prius. The vehicle which I used as an example suffered from a cold start misfire, commonly known as “morning death rattle.” There is of course no guarantee that this is your issue, please see this video for a complete list of reasons a second generation Prius would misfire on cold start: • 2004-2009 Prius Mornin...
    OEM Fuel Injector: 23250-21020
    OEM Fuel Injector Seal (fat one that goes into the manifold): 23291-0V020
    OEM Fuel Injector O-Ring (skinny one that does into the fuel rail): 90301-07024

    Huge thanks to you. I had this rattle problem on my Gen 2 Prius. Cleaning the injectors with an ultrasonic bath with white vinegar and a little gasoline was the solution. Remember to change the 2 seals as well! And insert the injection rail carefully so as not to damage the new O-ring seals.

      Wow I have never heard this! So you didn’t have to run anything through the injectors? Just soaked them? Amazing! Will you tell us more detail? You should make a video on your own channel and post a link in the comments to this one, I could probably add it to the description too
      Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already :)

      Did cleaning the fuel injectors solve the problem? I have to try this to my 2006 Prius because I'm having cold start rattling sound. I recently replaced EGR valve for my other 2010 Prius and it runs perfectly. Thanks.

    Drew, really liked your video on 2nd gen. Wondering is you have a recommendation on which year's of second and third gen are the most reliable and or which years to stay away from. Also, what is the name of your dealership? Do you have a website that shows your inventory? I am originally from Rochester, and was just there a couple weeks ago for the eclipse. Wish i could have stopped in then. Really looking for a budget friendly commuter. My employer is moving tripple the current distance for me. Would value your opinion. Thank you so much Drew. Replacing the fuel injectors fixed my misfire code, but my check engine light is still on and it’s back to stalling and misfiring. I’m getting P0138 oxygen sensor high voltage, but I am not seeing any leaks. Do you know any recommendations for what to look for on this?

    • @ColeSloth
      @ColeSloth Před 2 měsíci

      @@celia3479 P0138 means O2 sensor (upstream bank 1) probably needs replaced.
      If misfire is just on one cylinder, it's probably ignition coil or spark plug. If it's all 4 cylinders it's probably an air intake leak or you need to clean your MAF sensor (only use MAF sensor cleaner on it. Nothing else.)
      You can check all of the above with a scan tool that gives live data and swapping around ignition coils and learning how to interpret the data.
      Easiest is to clean maf and make sure there's no air leaks first. Then change out that O2 sensor, and then check the plugs and coils. Plugs and coils are a bit of a pain in the butt to get at.

    I'm glad it leaked at first. Mine did too. I have to trouble shoot it.
    I'm pretty upset it leaked. I'm down to zero on my back account and there's $10 in a leaky tank as I fix it on private property hoping they don't tow me.
    I'm hanging on a thread and when I thought it was fixed but to see it leak just makes my circumstance much worse.
    Man, I'm running low on the fumes of life and I'm going to re install it and hope it's tight.

    • @DrewGarage
      @DrewGarage  Před 11 měsíci

      @@DrewGarage i havn't done injectors yet. its my next fix. going to do it in the next few days... would bad injectors ccause a p0420? also make my mpg crap and run rough? • @DrewGarage
      @DrewGarage  Před 11 měsíci

      @@Primer9 so the ONLY possible connection between injectors and p0420 is if they are leaky reather than restricted and poisoned the cat. Oil (meaning worn out rings) could also cause cat poisoning and misfires... hopefully its injectors and the cat is unrelated. IF your cat was stolen and has been replaced, the replacements simply dont last

    • @Clamlifenc
      @Clamlifenc Před 4 měsíci

      I have a Prius too, PO420, can means many things: engine runs rich causes excess of gas going to the cat and could damage the cat, root causes could be: fuel injector leaking, MAF sensor dirty or going bad, air/fuel sensor going bad, O2 going bad, faulty fuel regulator or purge valve…dig into the root causes before changing parts.
