- The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (Op. 71). The libretto is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".

P. I. Tchaikovsky, The Great. Giant. Genius. Thanks for your Music, a gift for all of us.
Perhaps nothing could encapsulate the dreams and aspirations of all humanity better than this. And what would our civilization be without this miracle of fantasy.
The most beautiful Waltz in the world!
And to think Tchaikovsky loathed this score. He thought it worth nothing. But oh so beautiful.
bcing75 I don’t recall reading that somewhere but don’t know where
He only wrote it cause he was commissioned to. He really didn't want to write it anyway.
Some people just got too much without knowing it while others starving. Such is life. My favorite piece!
Tchaikovsky Loathed this score? I have never heard that before.
What a shame. I Love it. I was just listing to it then read your
comment. I agree with you, it is so Beautiful. Especially wonderful this
time of year.
Merry Christmas!
Jeff
No way
This brings back memories of life as a dancer. I miss this magical feeling.
Me too
@@inventosvitarecessit6425 I still live it and it makes me so joyful.
4:33 ...that, to me, was the greatest moment in the entire ballet. It's called Apotheosis for good reason.
Matthew Cates I wholeheartedly agree.
As a dancer hearing this and the audiences cheers is one of the best feelings to ever exist.
I love this part of the show
An arpeggio? Or you don’t mean musically but dramatically?
I have no words to describe this. Oh, maybe one.
Exquisite!
I absolutely love how you can clearly tell exactly when Clara wakes up. Very nice touch.
I've preformed in the Nutcracker 3 times. I'm so excited to do it again!
Mercedes Skamarycz I am in finale, Reed flute Snow and Fritz
I remember when my dearest friend Lauren invented me too The Nutcracker out in Annandale and i had the time of my life, that memory would live on forever.
1:59 simply mind-blowing
Brings tears to my eyes.
4:34 and on is the moment that I hold near (the nutcracker that I dance in) and dear to my heart. The characters have left Clara is left on stage with the nut doll sitting in a chair her mother comes into the room wakes clara up and the final moment you see Clara not wanting to go with turning back and pointing. The nutcracker doll stands up and salutes. Gives me chills. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Such beautiful music to welcome the holidays! I remember I was 14 when I saw the world famous Long Beach Ballet production of the Nutcracker as my first ballet. Ballet was really new to me but this was the only ballet I saw in person. The production is the most acclaimed production in Southern California. It's known for it's flying sleigh, special effects and many surprises.
Most beautiful waltz in the hole world!
Whole*
I love all of the Nutcraker songs!
What a beautiful waltz of the nutcracker ballet
Peter Tchaikovsky was amazing. I can't imagine being able to do this. One of the best pieces in the whole ballet.
Thank you WickedNorth.
So lovely! 😊
Beautiful.
It was my dearest friend Lauran Rose who introduced my to the ballet, now that I move to Reston I really miss her I hope she will come back soon.
I could listen to this all day long!
The last 30 seconds blows my mind
One of the most beautiful endings ever. 😢
I cannot believe it!!!!!! Before a few days, I was looking for this one and when I found out you hadn't uploaded it, I was really disappointed (because you have the best quality of all :) )
Великолепное исполнение!!
MUCHAS GRACIAS PORTUS HERMOSOS VIDEOS Y FELICIDADES PARA LAS FIESTAS
Love this! Rehearsing, over and over, my entrance as Dr Dross, at the end, then a special bit we do, very rhythmic. Northeastern Ballet Theatre.
EXCELENTE, CARLOS
The great talent of yesteryear’s! Thank you for such majestic contribution. Can’t help to realize how talent has diminished in today’s world.
Christ, I love this one over all the rest. The man was a genius
4:35 This music never fails to thrill me.
I dream with compose something with this beauty
I was wondering what this beautiful piece was called and just happened to run into it unexpectedly!
3:45 this melody came out of nowhere, just as what was thought to be the ending of the entire ballet is a whole new beautiful melody. I wonder why Tchaikovsky thought of this wonderful melody to be put in only a small section of the apotheosis. I really wish this melody could have been used somewhere else.
I believe it's because, at this moment, Clara/Marie has to leave the Land of Sweets, and, by extension, her dream (or was it a dream?). It's a sense of sadness that she needs to depart this enchanted place, hence the melancholic yet ethereal tone, yet you can feel the warmth of the joy beneath it all. It's an exclusive moment in the ballet that gives rise to the fleeting uniqueness of the melody :)
@@Roccarocks wow... Now im questioning myself whether Tchaikovsky really wasted the melody or not
It didn't come out of nowhere, it's the exact same melody that introduces the Land of Sweets, at the beginning of Act II, it's all over the place.
For anyone’s information, this version is performed by conductor Richard Bonynge with the National Philharmonic Orchestra
It is, in my opinion, the best version there is
I think the Rotterdam Phillarmonisch does it better. But this one is fantastic as well.
Made of musical notes, crystalline atmosphere, and pure magic; the eternally youthful embodiment of the spirit of dance . . . and yet Tchaikovsky was displeased with it. I guess genius was too close to the miracle.
I'm only 13, and I love Tchaikovsky! Especially his pieces from the nutcracker are very beautiful!
Have you loved tchaikovski yet ?
Your Probably 20 now Oop-
My 13 yr old self too commented the same somewhere else (Barbie being the reason why)

(See below comment)....default is the handiwork of the previous two generations. He is also just in praising technology and rightly naming those benefits germane to this discussion. Obviously there must be some real music-lovers out there, else we wouldn't be able to find these treasures on youtube. Just one little note, IHateRookies: before berating someone for his purported ignorance, it might behoove you to check your own comment for double negatives before posting it.
Actually, there's truth to both sides, and MegaAllydee was not at all ignorant. As a general rule, young people, or really any under the age of fifty, are remarkably incurious about anything outside their sad, puny little world. The veracity of a general statement does not require that all particular cases confirm it, only an overwhelming majority. Lord knows I've tried to talk culture with people and it's a losing battle. But IHateRookies is quite correct in pointing out that the cultural......
Not his best work but a classic none the less
