@Kalda Forn wow someone needs a hug 🤣
So much of this beautiful music was butchered in the production of the film. I'm grateful to hear it in its entirety , thank you.
@Kalda Forn are you saying she does not get it because she is a woman?
Shame they took wheel of pain off . It's a perfect partner to theology for a great suite
How this soundtrack was not nominated for a academy award I'll never understand. This is a masterpiece above all masterpieces.
Agreed
Jealousy
Agreed
It wasn't recorded with Dolby stereo, which may have hurt it's chances. It was nominated for a Saturn award for best music but lost out to John Williams's score for ET the Extra-Terrestrial.
It is a Stygian conspiracy
My nephew and I listened to this masterpiece last night. The next day, I asked him what he wanted for breakfast, and he answered, "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
He has learned well
Lmao
Time to gift him the secret story of the mongols!
Too good 😂
Crom was surely pleased
In my opinion, this music MAKES the movie. John Milius’ story is solid, Arnold is the right actor for the part. James Earl Jones is an absolute treasure, as is Max Von Sydow (there are NO small parts). But Basil Poledouris’ score elevates this movie to another level, and brings the right emotional notes at each scene to make this a treasured classic.
Absolutely agree
And "some surfer dude" masterfully playing Subotai, Thief and Archer!
It's an almost perfect movie. I saw it twice the day it came out.
Oh, YEAH!
They had the good sense to let the music run with no interrupting dialogue, giving the film an operatic flair.
Crom laughs at your Oscars.
In my mind I read this with Arnold's voice and accent

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest film scores that have ever been written for a movie.
A unique masterpiece, that stands for it own even without a single frame of the picture!
A Valkyrie conducting Conan the Barbarian, makes sense.
We need another Northman movie.....!
Yeap, this one's a real Valkyrie not like Marvel's movies 😒
I am absolutely certain that even giants of classical music like Mozart and Richard Wagner would have adored this masterful score.

I feel the same not only with this soundtrack but also with Howard Shores Lord of the rings soundtracks. They would love them no doubt about it
Wagner no way
You speak well, good sir. In all the movies one has watched none comes close to the operatic qualities this film was able to achieve. None.
@@germaneurope5213 Why not? Wagner was the Grandmaster of the heroic opera and the Conan score has plenty of heroic and operatic qualities. It is emotional, immersive and atmospheric, bringing an ancient world and time to life with its themes. Just as Wagner did with his music.
RIP Basil...still listening , i'm 48 years old...
I can’t believe how this soundtrack wasn’t awarded with the Oscar. It’s absolutely incredible and wonderful ! And the movie is, simple, fantástic.
In my top 10 movies. An aside: there was a tough time in my life; this movie, the wheel of pain, and Thulsa Doom really "spoke" to me.
Not even nominated. For a number reasons.
1) Genre. The "it's just dumb swords and sandals fantasy movie".
2) It most likely wasn't promoted. The producers didn't campaign.
3) De Laurentis, Millius etc were considered a bad joke by the people that "mattered"
The greatest soundtrack to the greatest movie ever made.
Well, there was the 10 Commandments. Then there was Ben Hur (the 1950's version). Do some research, do some movie watching...... the REAL movies from 1930-1960s. Not the trash they have now.
All inferior! Conan laughs at Ben Hur, he laughs from his throne in Aquilonia!

I was born in 1984. This film, and this soundtrack has followed me all my days. Not only have I been a Conan fanatic since I first saw this film, but the music has given me strength through some of my worst moments. It stirs my soul and gives me strength! Basil Paledouris was a musical genius. Robert E. Howard was a literary genius. And Arnold Schwarzenegger EMBODIED Conan like no one ever has. Watching these songs played like this was amazing!

Robocop as well!
Never forget Farewell to the King either.
John Milius’s Conan the Barbarian is one of the greatest fantasy films ever made and the epic score by Basil Poledouris played a very large part in that achievement.
I played this for my 12 year old son yesterday. Today when he woke up, he was a fully grown man with hair on his chest, and he demanded blood served in a sorcerer's skull for breakfast.

"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. Over and over I would listen to the songs wondering what the people who made the music looked like as they created this masterpiece. Wow, so this is what it looks like? Amazing.....just amazing. It's the best soundtrack ever.

@@Ironclad6661 It was a very adult-themed for a kid. I speak from experience. However extreme it may have been, I think the film makers did a great job of not over-complicating the film. Even younger viewers knew who the good guys were. Unlike some films of today. 🤓
@@wh6072 I saw it at 13. I had just discovered J.R.R. Tolkien and Dungeons & Dragons within the same 3 months. The books, game, and film managed to make fantasy my favorite genre. The soundtrack of my childhood. Conan was my hero growing up. I always ask people what is best in life. Only a handful of people will answer me correctly. "Crush your enemies, see them driven before and hear the lamentation of their women."

It's great how much respect this soundtrack gets so many years later. It elevated the movie so much. With such little dialogue, the soundtrack had to sell every moment.
that's in great part why modern movies are atrocious, instead of timeless art pieces they have either whatever the director or it's kids are listening to or tv commercial jingles
they completely forgot sound and a proper score was doing 2/3 of the work if not more...you can listen to a movie and miss little of it, a movie without sound and a good score is unwatchable
And Basil had to talk the director into it, they wanted new pop music to originally go with this movie. But Basil won the day and that's why Conan is Conan.
Extremely well said
@@mrplasterpants That's also one reason Star Wars took off. When cheesy sci fi of the time had funky synth music, John Williams' pops symphonic music elevated the movies above their peers.

As a young man stationed in SouthEast Asia during the Vietnam War, there were periods of time that the base would be closed. During these periods, I had gone over to the base USO station 'to hang out'. I found a complete collection of Robert E. Howard's books..I poured over those books from cover to cover, and the old maps on the inside covers. Come forward to 1982, the exhilaration, joy, and anticipation that welled in me, with the announcement of the "Conan the Barbarian" movie. The magic of Thoth Amon and Thulsa Doom has never faded, and Conan overshadowing the landscape has never stopped!!

Best movie score, best movie ever!
This is so chilling.. Brings back memories of seeing warriors fighting
AWESOME!!! The Conan soundtracks are some of my favorite music! Not only does it fit the movies but its so powerful. Basil Poledouris was an amazing composer and if he lived and composed this music 100s of years ago, we would talk about him like we do Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and all the other old masters.
Great conducting! And can we acknowledge her excellent choice of a Boho outfit for this?!
The conductor looks like she could be in the film - she's very intense
She's composed some of the best World of Warcraft music that's been done to date (from Auchindoun in Warlords of Draenor). Really cool also seeing her conduct something so iconic as Conan!
Can't believe I had to scroll this far for this comment...
Valeria...
She looks like Valeria!!!!!!
It's just what this score does to you. From her vantage, it must be amazing.
Conan The Barbarian paved the way for many other films of the genre but 40 years later none has ever succeeded Conan the Barbarian, the film and the music are two unique pieces just like Ben-Hur they can never be imitated !
thanks. a big honour for Basil! R.I.P.
You know the soundtrack is good when you can watch the movie in your mind just by listening to the music...
This and the original Jurassic Park soundtrack both do it..
By the four winds - this is eternal epic! just a masterpiece that Basil Poledouris create with that music. Thanks to that concert.
