- A sweet / halwa made in parts of Karnataka using rava, coconut and jaggery. Slow cooked till it becomes a goey halwa. Full recipe in English text below:

Ingredients:
* Fine Rava 1 cup
* Jaggery - 1 cup
* Grated coconut - 1 cup
* Cardamom - 2 nos
* Cloves - 2 nos
* Ghee - 3 tbsp
* Roasted cashews - 10 nos
* Water - 2-3 cups
Method:
1. In a vessel, soak rava in 2 cups of water for 1 hour.
2. Grind soaked rava (along with the water used to soak), coconut, cloves and cardamom to a fine paste.
3. Empty this paste into a wok.
4. Melt jaggery-using water and strain this into the wok containing the paste.
5. Switch on stove and keep stirring to ensure there are no lumps that form.
6. Once it thickens into a pasty mixture, add ghee and keep stirring.
7. The ghee will get absorbed. Add more ghee and keep stirring.
8. You will notice the change in colour and the mixture will leave all the sides.
9. Pour this mixture into a greased dish and pat down.
10. Garnish with roasted nuts.
11. Once partially cool, cut using a greased knife into the shape of your choice.
Note:
* Instead of rava you can substitute rice, millets like ragi (same measurement)
* Instead of jaggery, you can use sugar/palm jaggery.

My mother in law makes it with wheat.. She soaked the wheat for a day and then ground it in the grinder, strained it, and then followed the same process as you.

This is my go to sweet recipe. However I usually use rice, will definitely try this version. One small addition would be to add a pinch of powdered cardamon before transferring the halbai to the tray.

Hi how did you make it with ragi flour? I meant, do we mix flour & water?
we should not use ragi floor.we have to soak
ragi for 10 hours grind in mixer.then filter the
white milk discard the black portions add jaggery and cook .add ghee while cooking.no need to add coconut here.
we can substitute rava with godumai rava also
Soak ragi flour in water till immersion for half an hour. Then use this as per Mr Rakesh recipe. No need to grind this flour. Only coconut with other items.

The process you say is similar to wheat halwa.
But even instant wheat halwa is made with wheat flour. Not necessarily always with elaborate process in which fibre content is removed. It's left to ones convenience but still can have a taste of it.
