Thanks for the help with the fuel pump timing. I have one more problem you could maybe help with. We have two plastic tubes with a flange, 9mm long, one has a check ball, I took them out, but cannot remember where they belong!? any ideas? I can't figure out how to take and send a picture, but we are working on a 2014 XJ 351 V6 supercharged. Thanks Larry

I cannot upload photos on here.
But having found same problem, I found out that it’s the laser tool that is at fault.
The fuel pump timing position is different on v6 compared to v8.
The genuine tool is in 3 pieces so the cam lobe section can be used one way around or the other depending on if it’s V6 or V8. So if it’s a V6 one face is outwards, if it’s a V8 the other face is outward.
The laser tool you can’t flip the lobe as it’s 1 piece but the tool they sell is essentially only for V8, they don’t sell a separate V6 one that I’m aware of.
Best to just align the coloured links. And that should be correct then.

Thanks for the info. That's what I ended up doing and the motor runs fines. I just have a problem with one head gasket not sealing.

@@kiwiinnl I’ve raised the issue with Laser Technical.
It doesn’t look like they tested it on a V6 engine, just a v8 and assumed it was same as same tool is listed for both engines
Just genuine tool comes in 3 pieces and the lobe part can be flipped... but their one is fixed because they say it’s to make use easier.. apparently don’t seem to realise that it was in 3 pieces so it was interchangeable.
It shows it clearly in the Jaguar workshop info.
What problem are you having with head gasket sealing?
I’ve just done a head gasket on an f type

@@Clicksystems I also raised the issue with Laser but got no where. I'm interest to hear how you get on.
I did see the Jag tool looked different in the workshop manual.
As for the head leak, I had the heads planed but not the block as it looked fine. The block is from another car, as mine was toast.
After putting it back together the head started leaking coolant into cylinder 1 and I had low compression in 1 and 2. So I took it off again and couldn't find anything?
I replaced the gasket again and it seemed to be good but now it looks like it's started to leak again. I need to look in to more, (No time)
Do you know the thickness of the head gasket you used?

@@kiwiinnl I will let you know.
They might take me more seriously as I sent screenshots of the Jaguar manual showing difference between V6 and V8 use of the tool which show the lobe is flipped and 1 side has 2 indentations visible and other side only has 1.
      So will see.
Regarding head gasket, only one thickness available, I used a genuine gasket, it had like a rubberised coating on it.

They have not got back to me, but they have amended their website to say the tool is for 5.0 V8 only now.
So answer to this problem is to source genuine tool because even the Chinese version of the tool is 1 piece like the laser tool.
