    We were fortunate to get this old wood stove from a neighbor for cheap! I brought it back to life for around $300 total! It's an amazing addition to the work shop!

    We had that same exact model for a number of years before we got a newer one. That model was sold in 1979/1980, because that was when my dad converted our house from furnace heat to wood stove heat, and that was the model we got. They heat up a space really nicely, but we had some problems with it. For one, the glass panels got a lot of soot on them pretty frequently, and so they are transparent for maybe all of a couple fires before they are smoked and then coated with soot. The door dampers are nice, and I wish our current stove had a similar way to let air into the fire. The biggest problem was the motor and temp sensor. It wouldn't kick on at an ideal temp, and then later the motor just started squealing till it died. We went through a couple motors on that wood stove. You're almost better off with a wall mounted 20" industrial fan to blow the air over the pipe and the fireplace itself and into the rest of the room. We still have the old wood stove out in the backyard, since we planned to put it in our garage like you're doing, but my dad died before we could ever do anything about it.

      Someone had mentioned about oiling the motor to me. I'll be sure to do it next time I am working in the shop. It's a great stove for my metal building but it does like to" eat" the firewood. But considering I have zero insulation in it , I can't complain. Sorry to hear about your Dad, Hope you can get someone to help you get it set up in the garage like y'all had planned!

      Thanks for the heads up on oiling the motor!! I did all that work and never thought about doing that. It sounds fine but I am sure it could use it. I'll be sure to do that next time I am down at the shop.

    I just picked up one similar. Maybe a little better condition for free and trying to utilize it in my chimney. It’s an insert but I dont know how I will be able to connect it to a smoke stack as there’s only a couple of inches between fireplace opening and top of stove. It was meant to be a slammer for back in the day. Pretty much means it vents directly into chimney without a chimney liner. That’s heavily frowned upon today. Anywho enjoyed the video 👍.

      I hope you get it figured out, sounds like a pretty good challenge. Be safe with that old chimney and thanks for watching!

    I have the exact stove and I’m remodeling my trailer where I’m moving next they have a small and two wood needs to be no lord then 14” maybe 12” so I been looking for another buck and finally yesterday I brought one one $100 it’s got the glass and the metal covers like yours i am missing the top part pipe the very first section but Amazon those metal covers I didn’t know they and luckily my new one came with it now that I seen your restoration I’m excited to do mines I can’t wait thanks for sharing I wonder if the same heat paint from the motor would work on the stove anyways thanks agin btw it looks amazing after you were done

    • @twoturtleshomestead
      @twoturtleshomestead  Před rokem

      Thanks for commenting and good luck with your restoration. The only issue I've found with mine is that it does let a little smoke out of the damper rod at the top until the flue gets warm and then it quits. I do have 2 elbows in the flue which is probably what causes the draft to be slow until the temperature difference increases the draw.
      It does burn quite a bit of wood , compared to my new one in the house. But I'm not complaining, it is around 40 yrs old and heats up my shop quite well. About your paint, I would think any high temperature paint would be fine. It will have a bit of a paint smell the first hot fire or two until it heat cures the paint. Have fun with your project and thanks again for your comment!

      If you can find one that will heat a 3,000 sq ft home or shop with a blower for a couple hundred, ya better get it. :)

    I noticed in ths beginning of the video that the original rope gasket was in it's track on the front of the stove itself. I see there's now new gasket rope on the doors. Just curious . . .

    • @twoturtleshomestead
      @twoturtleshomestead  Před 6 měsíci

      That was a great observation! I had to go back and watch the video to see for myself. I did put it in a different spot and have no idea why I did? It works just fine though, so I'll just leave it alone for now.
      Kinda makes me feel like a ding dong now that I know...
      Thanks for your input! gonna drive me nuts know:)

      Confession! I have the same stove as yours, minus the legs, as a fireplace insert. I zeroed in on the gasket because I was looking specifically for a video about replacing it on the face of the stove.
      There are several how-to videos that have the gasket on the doors. Undoubtledly, that's where they most commonly are. My stove was here when I bought the house 33 years ago and this is my first time replacing the gasket. I assumed the existing placement was correct, but was starting to wonder with all of the door-gasket videos.
      I went ahead & replaced mine on the stove face. I have to say though, it would have been much easier to apply the bead of glue with the doors removed and laying flat, where it would stay put long enough to get the gasket in place! (Be GLAD you did it the way you did!)
      Thank u for your kind reply. Wishing you many cozy warm fires with your "new" Buck Stove. Ev

      Yes it heats good but you have to feed it a lot wood and it's a bit smokey when you open the doors. But for a workshop it is awesome!

    I have the same stove. It has a 3 speed fan right? I live about 5 miles from the Buck Stove factory. They offered me $1500 for mine. So your stove was a good deal.

    • @twoturtleshomestead
      @twoturtleshomestead  Před 6 měsíci

      It does have the 3 speed fan. That price is good to know. Someone had commented that I could have bought a new one for a couple hundred dollars at Menards! I just told him that he better go buy it for that price. Some folks just like to bark.. :)

    What type of paint did you use? Also how has it held up?

    • @twoturtleshomestead
      @twoturtleshomestead  Před rokem

      I cant remember the particular name brand but it was a high temp paint for wood stoves. I picked it up from a local wood stove supply company.
      It has held up very well so far, which is saying something considering that the stove is in my dirty and dusty work shop and i just wipe it down with a rag periodically. And it was rather inexpensive.

      Its just high temp spray paint from a big box store. Its holding up extremely well.
