They are so stout and sturdy looking. I love how their flares and mane blow around in the breeze, and of course the tail (should do) as well. Very powerful, imposing creatures.
Wish I owned one. One of my favorite breeds of draft horses.
Me too
Great horses. Lovely movement.
Shame about the tails.
Why do they shave them off?
@@chloeiacovou907 They actually cut through the bone, unfortunately.
It's illegal in many countries, but is a tradition that is still practised in parts of Europe.
It was done to prevent a horse's tail from getting in the way while driving them, but it's really not necessary. It is more of a fashion.
It's a shame for the horses who are docked like this, because tails provide protection against bad weather or flies. They are also used in communication from one horse to another.
Let's hope all horses are left with their tails on in the future.
@@chloeiacovou907 Those are not shaved, those are docked. These horses were, and still are in certain countries, used for work in the fields and forests. The docking of the tails was done to prevent the tails from getting tangled in the heavy gear, and to keep the horse from being harmed, or in the single rein used to drive them from the ground while working. It became part of the look of the breed, so it's often done out of tradition too, but there are a couple of articles online concerning this particular breed.
Such tiny stumps are not the norm where I live (not Belgium), docked horses here have a greater length of tail (enough to flap around). It was also forbidden by law in 2001, so it's becoming a rarity.
It was fashionable, at a certain point in History, to dock all driving horses, draft or leisure. During the XIX century, at least in Europe, you'll find plenty of depictions with docked tails, not to mention the almost omnipresent trimmed tails (just the hair, for fashion's sake).
@@pipitameruje that's what I said
Have never seen a bare horse tail, how long it is, but braiding & bunning tail hair is sometimes done to help prevent machine tangling. But possibly still docked. (?)
gorgeous, I watch him all day - just gorgeous - trotting or not
wow! these horses are so amazing, majestic and beautiful! wish the tail wasnt cut off tho
It sometimes interferes with the gear or gets stuck so they really didn't have another choice
Seems like a happy horse nonetheless
@@Mass-Aviationist yeah true
So beautiful and relaxing. They are magnificent.
Wow, such stunning horses. It seems that many people don't even know what a working horse is these days, but I hope we will start seeing more heavy draft horses being adopted as environmentally friendly alternatives to machines in some cases, given that they are treated well of course. Thanks for uploading :-)
Beautiful animals. So graceful to be so hugh.
I love giant draft horses trotting!!!
Beautiful Video
The cadence of his movement is equisite. Such a natural beauty.
Verscheidene keren bij de keuring van Shires geweest. Het valt mij op dat het gangwerk, stap, draf en galop 300% beter is van het Belgische trekpaard dan dat van de Shire. Simon is trouwens een PRACHT kerel.
That is a powerful animal!
Underbar! 😊
so sturdy
Yet so gracile.
Can one purchase one of those magnificent horses with its tail still intact?
yes this footage is from the 90s, you wont find them with docked tails anymore.
Lovely
Oud maar de beste!
O my goodness so very Beautiful
Now THAT is a warhorse!!
Incredible animal ~ love draft horses! Hard to believe they're in the same family as Quarter, Arabian & Mustang horses. (So to speak.)
Красавчик! Конь прекрасен! 💗💗💗😃👍
whered his tail go awwwwwwwwwwwww so cute lol
please please dont cut the tail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is not neccesary.
It is for working horse's, could get stuck in a he harness and get ripped off
@@Lara-234 Just tie his tail like Polo horses. They run, stop, run in circles. Riders tie their tails before the match and no problem!
@@Lara-234 I've seen videos of farmers working with huge draft horses with long and beautiful tails.
@@Lara-234 i prefer the look of docked drafts~
@@Lara-234 so that justifies it ???!!!!!!!!!!!!! pore slave horses 🤢😩
Супер
To see them move like this is an unexpected treat especially when draft horses have a reputation for being slow. They are amazing.
I see lot's of comments about tail docking... take heed please. This is only for human pleasure anymore.
Must be a full idiot to cut the tail on these beautiful animals!!!
WOW !
Can you imagine what 200 or 300 of these horses carrying knights with both in battle armor would have looked like? Very impressive I'm sure, not to mention very scary to anyone standing on the ground.
Waaaauuuuw!!!
Can some one tell where I will get the information about these breed to import India
Kindly help me out
Piękny ogier. Pozdrawiam z polski
ohhhhhhhh!!
Nice big chunk, where's its effin tail!!!. grrrrrrrrrrrrr!
So rude that the tail has been removed.
How unnaturale. Beautiful Stallions, incomplete
Poor guy. Doesn't have a tail to swish flies like any other horse.
Can you imagine a medieval harness on this horse and a knight in full body armor charging! Must have been horrifying.
HULK of horse
I like barbrant
Вау!!!
weeee
It's forbidden to cut the tail in Holland since 2001. Not sure if it's old footage otherwise they must have it done in a different country. Such a shame, they have beautiful tails and it's completely unnecessary these days to cut them.
It is film from 1998
An awful habit to cut the tail on these horses.
Beautiful, but docking tails is barbaric. Anyone who mutilates a horse in this way ought to go to prison!
