Only one thing counts: It is what you do with them and the results at the end, absolutely nothing else. A tool is just... a tool. Some use them very wisely and creatively, some others very poorly. Even if you built your own software and it took you 5 years, if the music you do with it sucks, then it sucks no matter all the efforts and time you've put into building the software. A bad workman always blames his tools. Do you really think I care if my favorite painter didn't make & fabricate himself his pigments at home and just bought commercial ones at his local store? Totally irrelevant and unimportant if at the end the results on the canvas are gorgeous and beautiful. Same with music. And any other art form.
