The latest LEGO Star Wars set to be reaveled, LEGO 75396 Desert Skiff and Sarlacc Pit, is a bit more expensive than previous iterations of this classic Original Trilogy vehicle, and with good reason.
In addition to the skiff, Luke, Han, Chewie, Lando and Boba Fett (and a bonus Nien Nunb), there's also a fleshed-out brick-built Sarlacc; something we haven't seen before at this scale. There have been smaller, perfuctory Sarlaccs in the past, but finally, this set comes with a Sarlacc that's more than just an afterthought.
For anyone hoping to put the new set on display as part of a larger LEGO Star Wars collection, the new Sarlacc makes this set noteworthy even after twenty years of LEGO Desert Skiffs.
The fact that this set is coming out already discounted at 63€ down from 80€ indicates even retailers know the full price is too high...I expect amazon to sell it for 20-30% off not even after a month.
I have the desert skiff from 2017, and this one looks very similar. Even the sarlacc has a lot of overlap, this one just has a lot more tan slopes "framing" it. And frankly, I don't think that tan "frame" adds any play value, and very little display value. The only real big difference is the price. The 2017 version was $30, this one is $80. Yes I know inflation is a thing, but inflation hasn't been THAT bad. It's still close to double the price for essentially some tan bits around the sarlacc beak. More power to you if you like this, but I'm happy with my old version.

I also own the 2017 one and besides a little extra details and the straw hat on the skiff, it is kinda just the same fucking thing
I like this video. Somehow Matt being outside his usual Lego room makes him a lot more animated than usual, which is great.

The Boba is the version from ESB, not ROTJ. No red arm guards and etc. Very disappointing
Yeah, especially since there is a RotJ version out there in 9496 from 2012. Or at least not as blatantly ESB as this one
The new Luke actually uses a new torso and leg printing. I think a new design of Skiff Luke was LONG overdue. Besides the face, they also gave Skiff Han a new torso if you couldn't tell.
Unfortunately his black glove wasn't included in the design.

Im really hopeful the UCS Jabbas Sail Barge comes with a large amount of landscape that this sarlacc can attach to and make one big display.

Personally, I think the bulky Sarlacc adds no more play value from the last one. It just adds pointless “value” to the set that doubled the price. It doesn’t even look better.

If they insist on pricing things so high, at the very least get things right. Putting the ESB Boba in here and without a cloth piece is just cutting corners.
Good video, I will add some transparent 2x2 round bricks so the desert skiff is a bit higher compared to the sarlacc pit. Also I find 80 bucks a bit too much for this set so I’ll buy it at a discount at some point.

$80 is just ridiculous! Severely overpriced! The only big highlight is easily Nien Nunb. The problem is everyone is saying it’s ridiculously overpriced, yet there will still be a bunch of people who will pay full price for this.

Price per piece is not perfect, but 80 dollars for 558 pieces is egregious. Diluting the issue of price to something "subjective" is not a responsible take. You have become part of Lego's overpricing trend, congratulations.
07:00 Yeah I couldn’t stand Book of Boba Fett either. Just makes no sense. But his new look was bad ass! The black robes and repainted armour giving serious space warrior monk vibes! I like it so much I bought and built Albo.Lego giant sized minifigure version of BoBF Boba! 😂
08:20 they could’ve recoloured Boba’s Jet Pack to reflect his ROTJ look more. Not asking for a dual mould or anything but a yellow would’ve been good. And he really should’ve had a cape!
9496 was $25 retail. It had better figs and I actually like the Sarlac. This current set is nice but it is not $80 good. Anyone who says otherwise is a sucker.

I came here after researching the Sarlacc, and I'd seen this video and I'm a bit of a Lego fan so I clicked out of curiosity, I was not expecting to be entertained so much, great video 👍

If you mentioned pricing injustice in your prior lord of the rings video, wouldn't these two sets be even worse? Having expensive sets that feel worth is is simply gatekeeping, where providing an order of magnitude less value for next level higher price points is something the government regulators would be concerned with in other industries.

Only 20% off? I think you lack ambition - a year from now I'll pick this up from Walmart for half off alongside the Dark Falcon, and probably the Droid Builder discounted to $12.50.
