    The bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud,Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra arehearing a series of petitions concerning thecontroversial NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam.
    These include pleas alleging irregularities andmalpractices during the May5 test and seeking afresh examination. During a previous hearing onJuly 8, the Supreme Court said that the integrity ofNEET-UG 2024 had been compromised.
    The bench was scheduled to consider severalpetitions about the controversial NEET-UG 2024medical admission examination. These includepleas requesting a new exam and claiminganomalies and malpractices during the May 5test. The Supreme Court declared that there hadbeen compromises to the integrity of NEET-UG2024 during a prior hearing on July 8.
    On the last hearing date, the bench requested theUnion's and NTA's answers regarding the scopeof the paper leak and the potential separation ofthe guilty from the rest of the group during themost recent hearing date. The Court stated thata retest might be required if the integrity of theexam asa whole has been compromised, and it isimpossible to distinguish between the applicantswho benefited from fraud and the sincere oneThe Court further stated that the retest would bethe last option given the impact on around 24 lakhstudents.
    23.33 lakh students appeared for NEET-UG 2024on May 5 across 4,750 centres in 571 cities,including 14 cities overseas. The NTA-conductedtest is the entrance test for admissions toMBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses ingovernment and private institutions nationwide.
    In a separate petition filed on Wednesday, theCenter said that the Ministry of Education hasasked IIT Madras to perform extensive dataanalytics of the NEET-UG 2024 candidates' resultsin accordance with the Supreme Court's orders.The Center notified the Supreme Court thatthere was no proof of widespread cheating or ofcertain candidate groups illegally profiting fromanomalous NEET-UG 2024 ratings.
    As per the Center's additional affidavit presentedto the SC, IIT Madras carried out data analyticson the NEET-UG 2024 results. Experts discoveredno anomalies in the marks distribution, whichconformed to a bell-shaped curve characteristic oflarge-scale tests.
    In their affidavit, the National Testing Agency(NTA) claims that the video posted on Telegramon May 4 purporting to display a picture of theNEET UG exam paper was fake. It further statedthat the timestamp had been tampered with toprovide the impression of an early leak.The National Testing Agency (NTA) is yet to filean affidavit in Supreme cOurt in connection withthe steps taken to identify the candidates whobenefited from the NEET-UG paper leak.
    The apex court on Monday had asked the NTA tofile a status report and affidavit with all the detailsby 5 pm on July 10.
    The apex court had also asked about the firstincident of paper leak that took place, themanner in which the question papers leaked weredisseminated, and the time duration between theOccurrence of the leak and the exam on May 5.
    The apex court said that there was no doubt that the NEET-UG held on May 5 was compromised by a question paper leak.
    A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said that the fact that the sanctity of the exam has been compromised is beyond doubt.
