John carpenter's the thing is the greatest sci-fi horror movie ever made period it doesn't get better than that
I only watched it for the first time last year, i’d heard about the story, effects, plot a thousand times on so many youtube videos and critics talking about it and i really didnt think i’d enjoy it (usually the case when people hype up a movie and i finally see it). I ... Was ... Wrong. The effects, the acting, the sense of isolation and paranoia, it was a brilliant film that made me stop saying 80’s horror movies are all crappy generic supposedly groundbreaking but actually dull, low budget uninteresting shitfests, it really opened up my eyes to great 80’s horrors and i love it, its now one of my fave movies ever

I've never seen the thing yet, but I've seen alien and the fly and those are such incredible sci-fi horror films, so I was wondering how the thing sticks up against those bad boys?
I like The Fly more, but The Thing is fantastic.
Jaws is my favorite. It might be my favorite movie period. The monologue quint gives on the orca give me goosebumps every time I watch it

Ok, here goes nothing:
1. The Thing (1982) - An all time classic, I don’t need to explain this one.
2. Jeepers Creepers - One of the most unexpected amazing movies of all time. I originally thought that the opening scene was a cold open, and I realised that I loved the movie when I didn’t want it to just be a cold open so I could spend more time with the characters.
3. Aliens - The best of the Alien franchise, blew my mind when I first saw it.
4. Alien - Almost as good as Aliens, the Chestburster sequence has to be one of the best moments in film history.
5. Alien vs. Predator - Yes, I know, this is above the first Predator movie but what can I say, I love the hell out of this.
6. It (2017) - I don’t like that I love this film, cause it sort of feels like I’m jumping on the bandwagon of popularity that this movie has, but what can I say? It’s a phenomenal movie.
7. It Chapter 2 - Yeah, it is a little too high but I still adore this almost as much as the first one.
8. Jaws - A classic and the only shark movie that I love.
9. Jaws 3D - Don’t kill me, but I had a great time with this one. It’s just so bad that you love it to death!
10. Predator - I don’t love this one as much as most, I’m not really into the Predator franchise as a whole, but you can’t deny that this first movie is a classic.
11. Predators - Even though some of this movie doesn’t really hit the mark, I enjoy it as a decent movie in the franchise.
12. Gremlins 2: The New Batch - Yes, I like this more than the first movie, but the goofiness is what sells this one for me. I love it more than I ever expected to.
13. The Thing (2011) - Yeah the CGI sucks balls but I honestly like the rest of the movie.
14. Jeepers Creepers 2: Love that they make the most of the Creeper in this one, the whole time it just feels like he’s in control and the kids on the bus are just playing his game. The characters are annoying but I can look past that.
15. Alien: Resurrection - I agree with Cody when he says that this is an enjoyable watch, so it naturally goes high on this list. It’s fun, even though it does character assassinate Ripley. :(
16. Gremlins - Yeah, this is a good movie, a classic for sure, but I just preferred what the second one did.
17. Alien 3 - Now hold on, I can explain. I watched the Assembly Cut of this film, which is arguably *much* better than the Theatrical version. You get much more out of the Golic (that’s how Google says you spell his name, idk) character played by Paul McGann and it overall tells a better story than the Theatrical version.
18. Prometheus - I enjoyed this, it is a visual and directorial masterpiece from Ridley Scott, but yeah, it doesn’t exactly feel like an Alien movie.
19. Alien: Covenant - Slightly worse than Prometheus, but it’s a razor thin difference. I just feel like the Xenomorph stuff doesn’t fit with the rest of the movie, even though I appreciate the more ‘Alien’ feel to it.
20. It (1990) - Don’t get me wrong, I really like this, more than I originally expected to, but the second half drags it down to the point where I sort of have to put it here.
21. Critters 2 - Yep, the highest spot for the Critters franchise is number 21, but I still found this entertaining, even more so than the original because it was bigger in a sense.
22. Critters - Just below the second one, but still an enjoyable movie in its own right.
23. Jaws 2 - I agree with Cody on this one, it just feels like a rinse and repeat version of the first movie without all of the charm that made it so good.
24. The Predator - Very disappointed with this movie. Could someone tell Shane Black that not every character has to be comic relief for a movie to be funny?
25. Critters Attack! - Better than 3 and 4 but still a rubbish movie. I might rewatch it if I’m in the mood for a shitty movie, but that’s about it.
26. Predator 2 - Yeah, I’m on the side that just says this is a straight up garbage movie, nothing to say about this one, it’s just very ‘meh’ the whole way through.
27. Critters 3 - Preferred it to 4, but still boring as hell. It did make me laugh a few times, but I cannot see for the life of me how Leo got big after appearing in this movie. Even *he* sucks in it.
28. Critters 4 - I was literally begging out loud for this movie to finish for the whole last 10-15 minutes. Enough said.
29. Jaws: The Revenge - Boring, makes no sense and overall just a shitty, shitty movie. Can’t believe that Michael Caine skipped his Oscar win to film this movie.
30. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem: I watched this when it was pitch black in the room, so I could more or less make out what was going on, but I kind of regret that. It just meant that I had to see more of this awful piece of junk that can loosely be called a film.
31. Jeepers Creepers 3 - I don’t even consider this movie as part of the Jeepers Creepers canon. To me it’s just a fan film from a failing film student.
Well, I know for certain that no one read that, but it felt good to get my opinion out there. Keep up that phenomenal work that you do, Cody and I apologise for making anyone have to read that.

Jeepers creepers is probably one of my most favorite horror films of all time, not just creature feature. Literally was sweating bullets when I watched it for the first time when it came out as a young kid. Fkn amazing...

What’s so good about the first one is you don’t know it’s a demonic creature until towards the end of the movie. I thought he was just going to be this crazy serial killer.
I love gremlins. Gizmo is precious, Stripe is a great villain and the characters are great. Horror classic

I think the Thing in my opinion is the most terrifying peace of media ever made. Out of the movies, games, books or even fucken music. The thing is the scariest peace of art on this planet. I was like Cody because I was aloud to watch horror films to as a kid, but when I was 12 I watched the Thing alone at night. Generally I still get terrified remembering that experience. I literally sat their with my hands on my mouth trying not to scream with the scene with the dogs. I was engaged into the story and the characters and who was the thing and when the credits rolled and it’s up to you to decide who was the thing. I stood their about for 3 hours processing what I just watched.

Jaws 4 is probably one of my favorite movies ever and it may be because as a child it was one of the first horror movies I was allowed to watch and the opening scene attack with him on the boat scared the crap out of me. I'm aware the shark roars. I'm aware we know sharks don't carry vendettas. I'm aware of ALL the bad things that make this movie suck for so many people, but I loved the underwater scenes. I loved Michael Caine in it. I enjoyed the scenery and the small throwbacks to the original. I still won't ride a banana boat in the ocean. Its a fun movie for me. I just have to throw my love on it every time I see it at the bottom of a list. I will die on this hill, Cody, haha! I will never understand how this ranks below 3D in everyone's list lol
Something in the Alien franchise scared me badly as a child. I watched the first one again a few weeks ago and I don't see what would've scared me but seeing your clip of Aliens and the little girl in the water with the thing coming out behind her...I had flashbacks. Pretty sure THIS was the one that scared the shit out of me as a kid, lol.
Critters is a fun franchise, but I guess when it came to these, these were my childhood allowed horror movies, lol. At least the first and second one before I was allowed to follow my love for the slashers.
Jeepers Creepers...this franchise frustrates me SO much because that first film is AMAZING and it is pretty scary. I enjoy the second one and I hate what they did to the 3rd and that we won't get the sequel we deserve.
Gremlins...I love Gremlins. The first one is so good and the second one is just fun, but I don't reach for it. If its on, I will leave it on, but that's it.
I fell asleep in the theater during Prometheus...so. I guess that tells you where that ranks because its the only movie I've ever fallen asleep during in a theater.
I didn't remember much about IT with Tim Curry except the table scene in the second part in the restaurant. I had to go back and rewatch it before the remake came out just to remind myself of what it was, but that scene was creepy enough for me as a kid that it stuck with me for over 20 years.

Very good list. I agree with what you have in the top 5, but I'd personally move them around a bit. You mentioned having that childhood fixation on watching Aliens over and over again. That was me with Jaws, so due to personal bias I'd put Jaws at #1, followed by the other 4 in an order I haven't decided yet.
