    Dukas is one of the greatest composers ever in my eyes, even though he's only written such few works.
    I agree with you that it's a shame that his symphony is rarely performed. Because it's absolutely sublime.

    Thank you for this. Dukas is hideously underrated. He was so hard on himself and destroyed much of his work, yet he was so good that Stravinsky ripped him off!...La Peri is another of his masterpieces and Hollywood owes so much to his unique Harmonic Language.

      Thank you for your comment. He is indeed underrated, and the only piece that's out there in concert programs is this one. When I read his biography and learnt he burnt his own works I was quite saddened by the thought of what we lost.
      Maybe I'll do an episode on La Peri in the future. I just need to research the material

      @@ggriglio In a way, you’re right. If you want to talk music periods, then it fits in the Romantic Period, which ran from 1830 to 1900.

      Yes, I meant classical in the broad sense obviously, not referred to the clsssical period
