    Thanks for this. Walk by it often and looked in the windows. I always wanted to go inside. It’s an amazing building. Or was.

    Thank you for the eye opening video. I find it highly suspicious that we have all these abandoned beautiful factories, cathedrals, and castles with dates in 1800's and not going back much or any further. Something wrong with our world that these grand places not being encouraged to restore with easier access to resources but instead are being subject to mold, mildew and decay which screams its being done by design. I can see clearly there is a deliberate attempt to destroy these structures along with wars, weather wars, and fires as a cover. We need to ask ourselves what happened prior to 1800's and why do we have limited family records? I can see we have devolved. I smell bullshit!!!

    Wow! Don't know how I missed this video! It would take a lot of money for whatever kind of project to restore. Even if one section was done at a time. You can clearly see the history in the structure. Maybe 25-50 years ago it could have been saved. Thank you for sharing another epic adventure RR.

    I grew up near there! I’ve always loved that building. I want to build a diorama of it, it’s honestly just so fascinating. I really hope the town gets around to saving it

    it would be cool if they could salvage those gorgeous exterior windows, beams and brickwork to make industrial-style loft apartments.

    Back in the 90s, the owner had an "apartment" in the area that had the couch and bed. He would come down on weekends and hang out there. The place was in decent shape back then and he rented out spaces to mechanics, wood shops, storage etc.

    Wow what a phenomenal building! I do agree it needs a lot of work to be turned into condo's. The outdoor courtyard was cool. The older side was sketchy. I'm glad you both made it out safe.

    Super cool old factory! There are quite a few old factories that have been repurposed into condos here in my town. One has even been converted into a giant antiqe mall.
    That factory reminds me of the old Massey Furgeson site in Brantford. Not sure if it's still standing, as it's been many years since I was there. Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it!!

    My wife once rented some space there to do her painting. There was a man living int building at the time from whom she rented.This would have been about 1990…or a bit later. His name was Julian Beecroft and he had a very nice apartment in there. Frame and drywall construction. I can’t recall which floor but I think on the second. At the same time another man, whose name I can’t recall had a fascinating business of making model vehicles entirely out of wood- including the black tires. I remember his scale model of a Peterbuilt truck cab including the spiral brake lines and exhaust pipes. He made them on commission I think. Can’t remember how long he was there.

    I live near here. It has been empty FOREVER and so many people have bought it and had intentions that never went through. Our wonderful town is very strict on its heritage and there is a tonne of red rape to go through for any building or changes to historic buildings. This factory is a major part of the town's history. I have always wanted to see inside it! Many many people have been known to squat there and at one point there was a rumored grow op. Fascinating to see inside!

    • @nipzie
      @nipzie Před 4 měsíci +1

      The intentions never went through because it bankrupted everyone who tried 😂. Shit needs to be torn down, it's beyond saving, and now it's actually falling on it's own. Town was stupid for keeping it so long.

    Such a big factory. Must had employed hundreds if not thousand of employees when it was in operation. From what I understand, the factory was used to store raw materials in long rod form, steel, pulleys, oil, coal (commonly used in the 1800's) etc. The raw material of long rod steel were cut using a shearing machine into specific lengths for the production of files. The factory was built beside the river, to harness the natural power of the river to propel the machinery in the factory.
    The factory was able to survive for about 170 years before it closed its doors for good. Either, the running of the factory was stuck in time due to cash flow thus not able to compete with newer factories who had the latest technology. Very informative. Thanks Riddim Ryder.

      @Magicpete1 Před 16 dny

      The factory continued to operate in Port Hope at a new location until the the late 1970's (I'll have to check this date). It had been relocated sometime in the 1950's to it's new location and ran for at least thirty years. I know I worked there for a summer in 1972.
