You can't let this Mets offense off the hook. Morton is almost 40 and the Mets have seen him countless times. They should be putting something up on the board against him. This lineup seems to me to not understand how to mesh as a unit. Perhaps it's time Mendoza sits them down and explains what is expected of each hitter. They actually seem confused together trying to score runs.

@@MarkLevine-oc7vk I tend to agree..... Alonso and Lindor are not reliable in crunch situations..... McNeil is in a 2 year slump....Baty isn't hitting....JD Martinez hasn't impressed me.... and the bottom of the batting order is really bad. They need a new look. Lindor isn't a good fit in the lineup because he goes cold for long stretches and this team needs a couple of good batting averages in their lineup.

Hey Ryan - I really appreciate your diligence in reporting accurate news, and holding other reporters accountable.
Additionally, I appreciate many of your insights involving roster construction and player performance. HOWEVER (lol), I would like to disabuse you, politely, of the idea of trading Luis Severino if he is performing well up to the trading deadline.
Ryan, you know that Mets tradition is built on pitching. Sevie just nearly tossed a no-hitter in what I like to call "the Wendle debacle"... ("Swing, Carlos" found a little brother - "Throw home, Joey"). But I digress.
To the point - if Luis Severino is pitching effectively mid-season, then David Stearns should offer him a multi-year contract at market value. This is one situation where both sides can agree, "If it works, don't fix it."
Paired with Senga & Scott, Severino could provide the Mets with 3 formidable starters should this team get hot and make the playoffs.
Y'know, as they say in Baseball, "Momentum is only as good as tomorrow's starting pitcher."

I'm a Mets fan I would love to see Alonso stay but that doesn't look like it's happening... He has 9 Homeruns and has a low batting average again so the Mets will not give him the contract that he wants.. Lindor is way overpriced as well and he's not hitting like he should....Many moons ago in the early 90s my favorite player basically got kicked out of Shea and treated like garbage by his own fans his name is Bobby Bonilla but he got the last laugh but he hit Homeruns and had a batting average of 270.. Now hes getting 1.2 million a year until 2035 retired also has a championship with the Marlins. It's ridiculous how much money these players want but they can't hit ! A batting average of 220 or 230 is horrible in my opinion. Lindor s contract is 341 million for 10 years do you know what Bobby Bonilla's was in 1992 29 Million for 5 years and he was the highest paid player in the league when the Mets signed him them... Lindor s contract makes Bonilla's look like peanuts and Lindor is batting 220... But he's loved !

He hits home runs in droves....7 or 10 a week....then is ice cold for months. In a baseball season, for 4 weeks he's god like, then for 5 months he's useless. This is why the offense is inconsistent. Lindor is the same way. You can't have these guys in the middle of the lineup when there so streaky like this. Sure, they'll finish with fat stats, and Met fans will "oooh and ahhhh".....but they're both not clutch, and it doesn't lead to wins. The only reason this team has as many wins as it does is because of the bench players, not the starting players.

Ryan, you say that maybe the value if a comp pick would be worth holding Pete. Due to our 2024 payroll, in order to get any pick at all for Pete he would have to sign a deal worth over $30 million AAV or $100 million total, and that would only be a third round pick. Unless he picks it up there is zero chance of that. In order to get a Rd B comp pick he would have to get $40 mil AAV or $150 mil total- think about it, the Mets sweetheart offer of 7\$158m would only barely meet that. No FA position player got more than 3 years this winter, it is a new world. Frankly, 7/$158m was nuts, we are going to have a team of geriatrics in out 5 years. Let him go taste the real world.
