  • I head out to the very scenic Rapid Bay in hope of a good catch. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan but I had a wonderful time exploring the amazing coast line. I also had a couple of very good friends from Japan stay with me. I've known one of them for nearly 30 years. For one it was their first time in Australia. I hope I helped build some great memories for them. Thanks for watching.

It was really strange to read the title on this as we were down there a few months ago and were catching lots of squid off the Jetty.
We got about 15 and had stopped as we were camping and couldn't really deal with any more.
3 Japanese tourist came up to us, all immaculately dressed, with the smallest fishing rod and one of the biggest squid jigs I have ever seen.
They had absolutely no idea of what to do so I gave them my swivel and tied it on and hooked on their squid jig. I showed them what to do but it wasn't going so well so I cast it into the spot that we were fishing and gave it back to her.
She hooked up on a big one and the noise and excitement was unbelievable. I had to lift it up with the line as the knitting needle fishing rod had no chance.
I have never seen people so excited about catching a squid.
I'm pretty sure that they will remember their trip down their when they get home.
I hope to get down there again very soon.
    Thanks for the video.

Sounds like the squid were definitely on that day. Lots of people I know have been struggling over the last month to find squid in decent numbers. Not sure why? So nice of you to help the Japanese tourists and yeah they get pretty excited, especially the girls. Luckily the guys I had with me have had some experience fishing. Can be tough if you're constantly having to rebait, cast, untangle knots etc for the newbies. Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciate it.

@@kayakfishingins.a4327Yeah it seems that we have been helping the Internationals on our last few trips. I love having people at our campsites sharing a fire or a few reds.
It doesn't take a lot of effort to make a bit of difference with others really.
I'm not sure why we did so well that day as I definitely fit into the all the gear and no idea category most of the time.
      Cheers.

Rapid bay water is so clear and cliff looks so beautiful. Your Japanese friend must be more than happy with your boat fishing and cooking and get famous on CZcams as well. Haha! Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.

I camped at Second Valley last weekend, Zero catch!! but the wind was coming off the land and was strong. No one was catching anywhere not even the jetty. I was out in my Hobie outback, was good fun to be out there anyway. Before heading back to Adelaide drove to rapid bay and no one was getting anything there either. Might have to give it another go after this weekends heat wave drops off. Hope your visitors enjoyed themselves while here.

The wind was also coming off the land the day I was there also. The whole time I was there I also didn't see anyone catch anything. All the boats disappeared and I was the only one on the water for hours. There were about 10 people on the jetty but didn't see them pull up anything. One of my Japanese friends hadn't been here for nearly 20 years and and it was the first trip to Australia for the other one. They both had a great time and hope to come back soon.

Yeah the squid has been very quiet lately. On the day I was also surprised at the Garfish, had a big school turn up but only got two before they took off again.

Thanks for the comment mate. Maybe its a good spot for flathead but not much was biting on the day. My friends really enjoyed themselves and it was a good break from the crazy busy lifestyles they lead. My wife's aunty worked as a cook at a Japanese restaurant for over 10 years so she prepared the sashimi for them. My Japanese used to be so much better when I was living there but I didn't use it in about 15 years so I was pretty rusty.

Hi mate, I got it from Binks Marine, Somerton Park. Its a 2023 Hobie Outback. You could also go a Hobie Pro Angler 12 or 14 but they are pretty hard to roof top. I've had a lot of different Hobie models now and I think I'll be sticking with this one.

@kayakfishingins.a4327 thanks for the feedback. Those hobie kayaks are quite pricey. Do they come kitted out for that kind of money? I was looking at those kayaks2fish have you heard anything about them?

@@anthonyc499 I think personally I would prefer a used Hobie over a new Kayaks2fish. The Hobie kayaks are made in the US and not china. One of my favourite models was the 2015-2018 Hobie Outback that Ive seen for as low as $1,100.
