Transforming the front façade of our Passion Project
The last 3 weeks have gone too fast
Each day has been non stop trying to bring this old mansion to it's former days
From making new shutters , to restoring old ones
From sanding , to filling to painting and the hardest one creating custom shutters to one side of the façade to replace the old aluminium ones
Edd has been on the hunt for old door handles for the last 5 years and lets just say he struck gold !!!!
Tackling the front of the house at the passion project has been something that has been on our minds for a long time we can finally say that the outside transformation has begun and we can't wait to share with you what we have been up to x
Its been over 6 years since we started the renovation project

Cool job on the shutters Edd. What are you going to do after you completed finish your passion project? You certainly don’t seem like the kind of guy to just sit around doing nothing!
I think a lot of people will be wondering this and of course I’ll have some time to heal (my back is not great at the moment) but in the final reveal I will be explaining what we are doing with the passion project and why we came to this decision.
That being said I have an idea of something big for the channel….. yoI’ll just have to wait a little bit longer!!
Why do people get the feeling the reveal will be they are going to sell it?

Your shutters look so good after filling, sanding and painting. Many other chateaus have very rough ones that could the same as yours. Those little hardware extras are what adds 👍🏻👏🏻that little ‘extra’

When I was in France (not far from Bordeaux), I loved the shutters being closed at night for light control. The curtains just didn’t block enough light. Also, for security, shutters serve well.

The bells sound pretty. The shutters look so beautiful and I love the little ladies and the blue painted shutters. The blue with the color of the stone is so French. The antique doorknobs are pretty, and the design is not only clever but they saved many a knuckle. I hope your back continues to improve, Edd. Although the windows are much more secure, I can see that it would be desirable for functional shutters. In case of strong storms, etc. I think you do a great job. Really appreciate all the attention to detail. Thank you for sharing!!

It’s lovely to see the facade of the building being freshened up. The details always take forever, but they are exactly the things that elevator or detract from the workmanship.
It will look great when they are all up . Plus would also help with the cold weather even with double glazed windows

Don't you need brass door plates too keep the handles from being loose and wiggling around?
Impressive work Ed and Anna, well done, little tip from Les Jeromes CZcams channel, they grind up any unused facing stones to a sandy consistency and mix it with colour correct lime mortar and use it to repair missing chunks and chips of stone on the facade of their chateau, would be great for the holes left by the old shutter wall hinges.
Looks like your back is really hurting. In some shots you are in real trouble. I wish resting it properly was an option but with the finishing line just ahead there is no way you will stop atm. Happy Christmas to you.
Love this episode, curb appeal makes such a huge impact. Did you see Peter and Anna’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” episode when he built new huge barn doors in this style? It was amazing too. I love the French blue color.

Before you start sanding the paint off the door handles, try rubbing them with rubbing alcohol. It will lift any water base or acrylic paint very quickly and save you a lot of work.

I wish shutters were the norm here in the U.K. I'd love to shut the world out, especially in winter and also in summer when daylight appears too early in the morning. I could also lock them but have my windows open allowing air to come in around the edges. I daren't have windows open overnight since my father nodded off on the settee in their bungalow one night. My mother put the light out and just left him there. They rarely shut the curtains as they had no near neighbours. That particular night there was the brightest full moon and something disturbed my father... he glanced at the window to see a leg climbing through. He jumped out of his skin saying "what on earth do you think you are doing?" And grabbed his gun but the young man, and his associate who was spotted afterwards ran off into the night. It was 25+ years ago but I've never settled at night. I'm a terrible insomniac and always keep a cosh beside my bed because even tho my family (adult kids) are still at home and sleep upstairs, my husband and I use one of the spare downstairs rooms. I feel then that I'm waiting for anyone to come and try it. My poor husband sleeps normally & hasn't got a clue that I'm awake most of the night, and I have cameras from outside my home which I can view on my mobile to ensure I see anyone before they see me.

Have you tried cleaning paint off hardware in a crockpot? I’ve never done it myself but I’ve seen in on rehab shows of historical homes. They cover the hardware with water in a crockpot, a couple spoons is dish detergent, cover and cook overnight on medium. That just fascinates me some reason. 😂 I imagine you’d close the shutters if the home were unattended for length of any time or bad weather to protect the windows. It’s all looking amazing.
