there different type of evil. my friend mom use to lock her in the bathroom for days, beat her, refuse to feed her and if she find out she ate she force her to throw it up and rub her face in it like a dog while screaming at her. lucky in high school the mom got arrested and sent to a mental hostipial when she show up to high school cause she found out we was having a pizza party and start screaming at her. so if the grandmother was like that I'm not even part of the family but I would totally understand why the mother don't want the baby to be name it.

It might take 20 years, but restoration of the family relationship is always the proper goal. These does mean that there's no threatening or other such things. The mother and sister need help, obviously. Therapy might work, or repentance and submission to the good God of creation, who loves them lavishly, would work even better.

When our son was born, over thirty years ago myum was upset because we gave him the same name as someone who had tried to assault her as a young woman. We had never heard of this and had chosen the name just because we liked it. So instead of it being happy news she accused us of doing this on purpose to hurt her. Honestly if you didn't know then you haven't done it on purpose, if you had known and still chose it then I can see that's a bit more confusing. But two people can have the same name and not display the same behaviour.

The description of the grandmother ( or great grandmother) describes 90 % of all mother-in-laws. When you as a couple name your child it is no other person's business what you name it. Not in-laws, not siblings, no one. Threatening to cut off a relationship is manipulation and control, not love. I would tell the sister and whoever else needs to hear it - 'My husband and I have named our child. The name is staying. If you don't like the name you don't have to. You threatening me over this means you're dangerous and I will not permit dangerous people around my child.'

"my mom was evil and controlling so don't have kids out of wedlock, don't get divorced and definitely don't name your child after the women that abused me or I will hurt your child and you by cutting you off forever''
That apple still hasn't fallen, she is her mother

Sounds like the mother is now the one being manipulative. Learn from the past and don't repeat it.

Ur kid don't need a grandmother like that...its the best thing u could do for ur kid...they(mom and sister) are toxic and manipulative... let them go... ur sister will come around when she realizes it until then stay away from her too..

If you're Elon Musk and you have a baby with Grimes you're almost obligated to pick an outlandish name. Gotta stay on brand.

  • @sirraymondluxuryyacht8131

I'd be inclined to say if it's keeps the peace and you were asked nicely, then choose a different name....but when it's approached like that threatening the child, I would be like "Stay away, because you don't threaten my child"

Family should not be manipulative like that! Just out of curiosity, what was the baby's name? Not that it would matter for the subject, I just thought John would ask lol

I would tell my mom, "If you would have called me and explained to me calmly what happened with your mom and that name, we would have considered it~ but texting me your *demands* and then turning other family members against us? Nope. Not gonna work lady."
Your mother sounds like a narcissist. 😞
Please cut it off. The fact she said she may HURT your child (which she was probably being honest)....absolutely not. Bye bye!
