    OCTOBER 30, 2020: Pearnel Charles Sr, the immediate former speaker of the House of Representatives and a key figure in the elections of 1980 says the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has shot down the rumor that America helped to topple the Michael Manley government. He says as someone who was close to the inner circle of the party and to Edward Seaga, he had not seen a single engagement with a CIA agent. Charles, however, admitted that the JLP had the American support because of its pro-democracy stance it had adopted at a time when communism threatened Jamaica.

    That election was the turning point of Jamaica for ruin.
    He can hardly say communist because the little integrity/shame he has doesn’t allow him to and people with experience will call him out. Communism and socialist policies in a parliamentary democracy are starkly different things. Rumors of Cubans and Soviets in ships at our ports were pure propaganda and still are. Given the amount of schools and other infrastructure Cubans built over the years, it’s a shame. Even now in COVID they’re still helping Jamaica.
    Back then, with the help of the USA the JLP created an unofficial embargo of basic food stuff and amenities emptying shops and supermarkets. Funnily days after election everything was shelves again and made available. Under pressure bcuz of situation and like Bustamante (lump sum for 100 years of bauxite and no infrastructure), Seaga offered “the masses” full bellies, bribes and guns for political bullying and to create garrisons instead of wholistic long term national development and providing real opportunities for people like education and the right to own land. Real political competition was stifled out and badman culture had its foundations. It’s funny how people today big up countries like Sweden and Singapore which studied the same policies Manley pioneered. In the same light, there are so many institutions and freedoms the PNP championed that people tek for granted theses days. Apparently they forgot these were “communist” or “socialist” policies”.
    The 1980s set the precedent for the years to follow. A focus on “the masses” (dunce mentally inept part of the population) for political approval, surge of brain drain to contribute elsewhere, acceptance of political bullying through gun violence tribalism and start of social commentary through dancehall music which in turn was strategically proliferated and propelled ghetto culture into the mainstream lifestyle of Jamaica to further control “the masses”.
    Jamaica was another causality of the Cold War and the JLP facilitated it destruction. It’s interesting though, people don’t care that much to learn and if a lie is said often and long enough it becomes accepted as truth.

    The JLP was an offense and the PNP was on the defense so who was the aggressor it always the ones on offense who seeking power. I don't think a JLP are a PNP politician of that time will give you the truth about what took place in 1980s, because they involve in what was going on one way or another.

      You should pray that those politicians confess although one indirectly did when he prerequested that his body not be viewed why you think he did that....he probably remembered how he and big business dumped food and caused scarcity to sabotage the opponent because zcuban doctors teachers and engineers were in Jamaica building schools .hospitals and other infrastructure which we still used today right.... e.g. GCFoster which has turned out great sports instructors ...some now are making their impacting foreign countries....What did siding with the freedom message which was a farce....get us ask yourself what has the wealthy US done for Jamaica....you go for out to defend your arguments hope you can....there were two evils one was the lesser and the lesser paid the price but Jamaica reaped the cost until now........sad but true narrative if you know what I mean.....in the end only The almighty can save us not men....that's the light at the end of the tunnel...

      @veronicagray3164 Před 3 lety +2

      In any case the JLP party is more better than the PNP when you look on how, many years that Party in power , and nothing has been done for the community, that they represent. For instantly look on the market, the police station, the courts house , the parks, and they are in power for ,so long.The Country was worst than how the JLP leaves the country. People were dying for hungry, they closed the banana fields, also factory's sold all l the businesses.I hope this time when the JLP built the community and country they don't let the PNP mashup it again. because Hadeword G Seeago and his team did a excellent job, congratulations to them!!.
