They really stuffed up with Calder Park in Andretti Racing. The right hand turn format was for our Aussie cars,Auscar,HQ Holdens and so on. I remember being so thrilled that the track two minutes from my home made it onto a console only to see it presented in the wrong format for the cars in the game.
Makes it more unique though, and not like that game was particularly realism heavy. A right turn oval definitely fits into the weird vibes the other tracks give off.
Best thing is in career mode where the green screen cut scenes have the Opera House (or was it the Harbour Bridge) in the background but the racetrack is about 850km/500 miles away from Sydney, in Victoria.

The Indy Car game that I have loved the most was Super Indy Champ. As it was only launched in Japan, I just could discovered it after College, searching for funs ROMs to be played at emulators. Super Indy Champ is based on 1993 CART Season and features all tracks. There are Mansell, Fittipaldi, Scott Goodyear, Hiro Matsushita, Mario Andretti, Bobby Rahal, Al. Unser Jnr., Raul Boesel, Paul Tracy and others. Also as well, Newman/Haas, Penske, Forsythe. You can drive from Indy Lights and change from minnows to the best teams from season to season on a carrer mode. One of the best Super Nintendo racing games ever made - a shame that almost no one knows it
FYI. There’s a cheat code in that CART World Series game that turns to Vancouver track into the death star. And it has jumps. Turn the vehicle damage on and see if you can complete and lap.
Missing a few: IndyCar Racing 1+2 on PC (latter reissued as CART Racing), Al Unser Jr Arcade Racing, ABC Sports IndyCar Racing on PC, ToCA Race Driver 3 (had licensed IndyCar content)
Also missed Super Indy Champ, a Japanese only release for the Super Famicom, with a great career mode but with no license of the IndyCar Series at the time. Even has Indy Lights
Indycar from Codemasters (but the first of the two, the one with Hornish) was my introduction to IRL. It was fun to race, and even more fun to drive backwards and crash everyone, the fact that you could set the damages to "Ai only" was phenomenal

First time seeing your channel. Loved the video. My favorite Indy games are IndyCar 2005 for Xbox, cart fury for ps2, Andretti racing for ps1 and Nigel Mansells for genesis
Sega Indy 500 was from Sega AM1 mostly known for die hard arcade and the house of the dead it was also only their 2nd 3d game after wing war (a dog fight game on the model 1)
The Nigel Mansell Indycar game was also on the Mega Drive and was really good. It even had tyre degradation. It's probably Nintendo being rubbish which was why the SNES version wasn't good.
I just had the realization a while ago that when people say "oh Nascar is just cars turning to the left, who likes that" and consider it a boring sport (even though this is a video about Indy cars, there's quite a few oval tracks in it already) they forget the fact that the cars aren't turning to the left. They're going STRAIGHT. The track camber does the turning for them so it becomes one of those android racing games where you have to dodge traffic at 200 mph where a bird's far can send seven people to the hospital in less than a second. When you think about it that way, it's pretty amazing it's still even legal.
Played alot of Indy Racing 2000 on the N64 back in the day, it was a really fun game for the N64, Was also fun doing full length races and watching the race unfold, seeing who DNF's. While the field did spread out, you never fully dominated the game, and 1 crash with damage on would easily put you behind.
Not a console game, but Indianapolis 500: The Simulation on MS Dos, 1989. The first computer game I remember playing as a kid, and the game is older than me!
Only exposure most of us Aussies had was the Gold Coast Indy (became Champ Car after the split). Plenty of memories watching along with the V8s, was crazy to see the fires in the pit lane when the methanol fuel would burn with an invisible flame. Good racing too on a really good street circuit (before they shortened it)
I know who he is, my point is when everyone is driving goofy cars in the game, the names just don't mesh at all with the movie to the point of not even mattering. Not a problem in a normal game, but a movie tie in game, sorta an issue I'd argue.
I’m sure that this has been mentioned already, but I’m too lazy to scroll through and check. But that very first game for the Atari 2600 dates all the way back to 1977. And, believe it or not, it was actually fun to play back in the day with the proper controller.
The Indy Racing 2000 game on the N64 was the 3rd racing game, I think, from the same people who also made the F1 World Grand Prix games... and I can tell you, the handling in those games was also SUPER sensitive and twitchy. I had F1 World Grand Prix 2 on the N64. I remember playing it and at placed like Monaco it just ended up being like F1 pinball bouncing from barrier to barrier the steering was so sensitive. You'd have to be so, so, deliberate and precise with your thumbstick movements that I remember my thumb used to feel like it was going to lock at the knuckle by the end of a race. So yeah, nothing to do with emulation or the xbox pad over the N64 one... they were, indeed, just like that.
Great video! Love the overview of the first 3 games, hilarious. Never knew about the depth of Road to the Top, gonna check that out! CART World Series could had been better too, but exactly what you already said. Wanted to like PS1 Newman Haas more, because the tie-in with Psygnosis PS1 F1, but didn't find it as fun. Cart Flag to Flag is the one I wanted to love, but exactly what you mention with the handling and last to first style races totally holds it back from being really good. And Indy Racing 2000 on N64 ain't awful, it does have a sensitivity option... but basically if you leave the banking or touch the wall it's endless pain... so it's overly difficult (along with the erratic arcade style AI) Otherwise my personal top 3 from this list (that I still occasionally play on my portable emulator device)... Indy Heat (best top down, so much fun), IndyCar Series (it did need more polish, also lack of in-game sensitivity and AI difficulty settings is odd, but works great on my Anbernic emulation handheld) and CART Fury (full on arcade racing and really fun for that).
In the last game indy 500 go though your settings in the xbox settings turn off notifications set game difficulty to hard instead of default in the xbox menu i dont own this tiltle so i dont know what settings could or if change the game. I normally play playstaion you can change settings in both consoles to change many games. Even turn off sound in the system menu may effect gameplay on the switch it has. Go though all the system settings trust me there may be some easter eggs in there.
I loved Road to the Top as a kid. Once I flipped the IndyCar. Could never do it again. No clue how I did it. The car flipped and I couldn't do anything. The race kept going but I was stuck upside down.
Before watching, Flag to Flag for the Dreamcast, and CART Fury for PS2 and if you're really lucky, an arcade. Those two games are games I play still to this day.
@@charliepalmer3244 I played a good bit more than the footage here, because it really is a good game, it's just the whole gearing and handling issue coupled with the tone of it being seemingly unable to commit to being more realistic or arcade style.
You missed one. I had Indy 500 when I was young. I can't remember if it was the Commodore 64 or Amiga 500. I remember spending weeks trying to beat one race in the game 😂
Interesting that you are going clockwise on the Thunderdome in a NASCAR. the only things that raced that direction there were the HQs and AUSCARS because they are right hand drive.
Toca 3 had licensed indycars too. Had alot of cars like 22 or so but only like 4 tracks. Indianapolis was super fun. Huge wrecks lol the rest of the game made up for the lack of tracks with v8 supercars and british gt
Great video as always. Just goes to show how starved IndyCar fans for some sort of video game fix that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg (cough iracing, cough). Would love to see a video on NR2003 from you.
CART World Series was really great at the time... if used with the proper setup. That being, 2 copies of the game, 2 PS1's, 2 TVs, 1 link cable, 4 negCons and 4 practiced drivers. Some of the best multiplayer racing to be had on the PS1. Also as I just got to the video's end... T.D.LM 🤔
Finally CART Fury gets the respect it deserves! I'd rather a modern IndyCar game be that than yet another impossible to drive for casual gamers hypersim.
Lol I'm just picturing Nascar fans having a mind blown existential crisis moment when faced with a clockwise oval now. Nice to see all these games that I haven't ever played (unless you count the ones that were rebadged versions of F1 games I did play).
Totally disagree with the assessment of the PS1 games. I love CART World Series, enjoy Andretti Racing, but struggled to control Newman/Haas. CART plays fine, and I think a lot of folks would agree. I need to try Newman/Haas again, though.
Do always comment before watching the video? He literally mentions them first thing. Otherwise yes, this is the game I loved so much (and my track modding page from 99/2000 is still accessible, haha)
toca race driver 3 actually had the 2005 season with most of the tracks though half the field due to them still having the rights for IRL due to the 2 games made by brain in a jar that they published, speaking of brain in a jar, indycar series, indycar series 2005 and indy 500 evolution are the only actual games they made, the rest of the games they made were complete budget game shovelware especially on the wii and all of the basically use the same engine but in an even more buggy and broken state, sad

And Indy Racing 2000 on N64 ain't awful, it does have a sensitivity option... but basically if you leave the banking or touch the wall it's endless pain... so it's overly difficult (along with the erratic arcade style AI)
Otherwise my personal top 3 from this list (that I still occasionally play on my portable emulator device)...
I hope we get some more content on this channel soon.
Before watching, Flag to Flag for the Dreamcast, and CART Fury for PS2 and if you're really lucky, an arcade. Those two games are games I play still to this day.
(gotta use the a different view on Flag to Flag, makes all the difference)
@@charliepalmer3244 I played a good bit more than the footage here, because it really is a good game, it's just the whole gearing and handling issue coupled with the tone of it being seemingly unable to commit to being more realistic or arcade style.
You hit on so many rhinks held me back
So thanks man (
25:23 My local Walmart had this game in the little arcade setup that they had back in the day and I cant tell you how many dollars I spent on it lol
You missed one. I had Indy 500 when I was young. I can't remember if it was the Commodore 64 or Amiga 500. I remember spending weeks trying to beat one race in the game 😂
also Andretti Racing is the back bone of ea's nascar games as the devs would do those right after
When did iRacing add IndyCar machinery? I only remember 3 IRL cars there, not a single IndyCar.
IndyCar is the IRL.
Interesting that you are going clockwise on the Thunderdome in a NASCAR. the only things that raced that direction there were the HQs and AUSCARS because they are right hand drive.
I see others noticed too.
I’d like to see you do an in depth review of CART precision racing
Empty can we get a review of ALL NASCAR games soon?
Toca 3 had licensed indycars too. Had alot of cars like 22 or so but only like 4 tracks. Indianapolis was super fun. Huge wrecks lol the rest of the game made up for the lack of tracks with v8 supercars and british gt
Empty Box is still the best Sim racer ever
Great video as always. Just goes to show how starved IndyCar fans for some sort of video game fix that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg (cough iracing, cough). Would love to see a video on NR2003 from you.
Ah, newman haas. I have it also
the first Indy 500 game was a arcade port and only 2 players from the late 70's
CART World Series was really great at the time... if used with the proper setup. That being, 2 copies of the game, 2 PS1's, 2 TVs, 1 link cable, 4 negCons and 4 practiced drivers. Some of the best multiplayer racing to be had on the PS1. Also as I just got to the video's end... T.D.LM 🤔
Mistake: Atari 2600 Indy 500 is from 1977, not 1988.
Tiburon Speedway from NASCAR Thunder tho
driven is the game of all time
Try CART Precision Racing its from those who make Monster Truck Madness & 4x4 Evo series.
What about the open wheel indy cars infused in games like forza and project cars, gran turismo etc. Need a video on them.
Totally disagree with the assessment of the PS1 games. I love CART World Series, enjoy Andretti Racing, but struggled to control Newman/Haas. CART plays fine, and I think a lot of folks would agree. I need to try Newman/Haas again, though.
All of those IndyCar games are considered to be far better than racing games we have today sadly.
Too bad we don’t have an Indycar game on PS4 yet. The closest thing we have is Project Cars 3.
Next time Super Monco GP BAYBE
I still have my copy of "CART World Series"
What about the career you can do in Cars2?
Bruh I love your videos when you're not talking about iracing.
Where is Papyrus's Indy Car Racing? The daddy.
TOCA 3 had Indy car/IRL
I own Al Unser jr turbo racing for Nintendo
this guy is alive?
CART Precision Racing by TRI?
