First of all, apologies for the long wait. Due to personal circumstances, I had to take an unexpected break from this channel. Thank you all for the support you kept showing me during this time, it made a big difference and I hope the video was worth the wait 🙏
Thank you for this video! As someone whose passionate about asian skincare and working in the skincare industry in the west it is frustrating to only hear other industry professionals refer to kbeauty trends as just snail mucin and daily masking, when neither of those trends have been relevant in the last few years.
I’ve been watching your old vids (some of which I watch more than once) to rely on your informative content in making my k beauty purchase since I’ll be going to Korea soon. So when I see that you’ve uploaded a new video, I am beyond happy! Thank you Odile, your content and ‘influencing’ is unmatched. ❤❤❤
I’d like to thank you for creating content. Western makeup and skin care has been a failure for me. I started using Korean skin care a couple years ago. As someone who lives in the USA, it’s hard to choose what products I should be using. Your videos are so helpful!
Perfect timing for you to cover haircare, as I'm just finishing my recent task of "I have to use up all these haircare products before I buy any more" 😬 The Dr Groot shampoo sounds great!
Exemplary video made to the highest standards with detailed content presented in an informative way. Thank you very much for your efforts! Grazie mille!
This was fascinating! I love the way you explained the science. I'm really interested and impressed with the way these companies are using and investing in biotechnology. Another fabulous video!😍🤩
@Kin fras I am still using both products and enjoying them quite a bit. I am pairing them with the iope bio essence, donginbi daily defense cream and ahc eye cream.
Fascinating!! It is so exciting to see where the future of skincare will go, truly pushing the limits of science to bring healthy skin to the next level. I can't wait to see it :). Of course Korea is leading the charge... Also - your comments about snail mucin had me 😂
Phenomenal video, it was well worth the wait! I had to watch it twice to really soak in all the information😂 I feel like I always come out of your videos with wanting to try at least one new thing, and this time it’s the dr.groot shampoo. I did notice that there was a huge focus on anti-hairloss shampoo at Olive Young all of a sudden from 1-2(?) years back so it was interesting to see that it’s an actual need. That also explains why the Aromatica rosemary “scalp-scaling” shampoo I have been using for years is now sold as “anti hairloss” at Costco even though the formula hasn’t changed at all.
I am fascinated by your videos and the information so detailed and of exceptional Quality that You give for the analysis! I also loved the animaron for the exosomes explanation, just outstanding!! You're my model of integrity, professionalism, and of course, Beauty!
Thank you so much! I do put a lot of time and effort into the motion graphics because some concepts I cover on this channel can be quite complex to follow, so I prefer using visual aids 🙏
Your yearly trend forecast videos have always been some of those I come back to most frequently, so I was excited to watch this one. And glad I did!! 2023's shaping up to be exciting. All 3 points appealed to me for different reasons. I have not tried many Korean hair products, but I've been planning to purchase Western scalpcare products for a while, so why not Korean ones 👀 as for no mask makeup... Some of us still wear them daily but I guess as long as the formulas remain long-lasting and mask-resistant, I can't complain too much.
They are also my favourite types of videos to make, so glad to hear there's an audience for this type of content because I'm always second guessing myself 😅
I truly enjoy your videos. I have purchased a few of the products that you have recommended. Donginbi Daily Defense, Sooryehan Black (the set)and The history of Whoo Emulsion. I am looking for a couple of products that is for mature skin with wrinkles. Something for women in their 50’s. We want to look 👀 good too. Make a video for us. Thank you 😊 from Florida 🤗
Hello Odile, Thank you very much for your interesting content, very well explain 👍 Can you please, make a video about EGF and of course the best serums + cream of this ingredient and how to layer it with AM & PM routine. It will be really appreciated 🙏🏼
I m watching this video for third time and just wanna say that knowledge is power. I don’t believe that I can buy ever in Greece such miracles but I am satisfied that I be learned something about this technology. Thank you Odile😊
I’m so glad to see your face again! I will be moving to S. Korea this summer, and I am excited to explore the beauty scene. Thank you for informative and relaxing content.
You have the best videos ever. I started studying the skincare products and thankgod I found you. I have watched most of your videos, we few Korean brands in Brazil but is possible to import. Could you make a video about the different retinol used in the korean industry? Right now I am using Granactive Retinoid at a 2% concentration, which are more effective and what products we can try, please include the affordable ones 😂
Wow amazing content. I really wanted to know abt exosome and it was a perfect timing.absolutely grateful to you for your immense knowledge in skincare.i totally use most of the products that you recommend
I am a "Monodist" huge fan! I typically watch your videos at least twice, I save them in my favourites if I know I'm going to need them to make a purchase for a specific reason and I do buy often what you recommend because your recommendations have never disappointed me. Thank you so much for doing what you do and I look forward to many more!🤗
Thank you for always keeping us up to date. I actually recently managed to get my hands on the Black Serum, and now, with this added knowledge, I'm even more excited to use it.
A little late to catching up with the video but so glad I have now. As always, learning lots from your content. Hope everything is well! Great work, Odile!! 🎉 Now I’m off to rewatch the other videos to compare the other products with the Black serum 😅
Hi Odile, I have just found your channel and I love it. I am 70 years old. Could you, please, give some advice on skincare or a rutine to follow. I have just bought tocobo sunscreen, and really it is another thing. Greetings from Mexico
i liked this video so much, its perfect! i think biotech is gain popularity all over the world, even in russia we have researches about exosomes, but i couldn't read them, so it was intresting to listen about them from you! thank you for explaining this hard theme in simple words. i also like beauty science soo much! i love what you talked a looot in this video, it's like having conversation with you. and i love that you showed application of the black serum on the face, it gives more information about product for me. over all, it's such a high quality video, i'm enjoying your videos at the moment, it seems that you do them with big passion! (sorry for my english)
Hello Odile, thank you for all the good information and well explain Ed all throughout. I bought the Black serum and it does everything you say and I love it. I also picked up the lipstick you mentioned an I am hooked. Please keep sharing your finds, I find them very valuable on this side of the Globe!
really love your channel and your expertise on korean skincare! i have hair loss so im quite interested in the dr groot shampoo. i heard anti-hairloss shampoos isnt really a thing and that biotin in shampoo doesn’t get “absorbed” into the skin like taking oral supplements do. wondering if you had a take on this, since you seem well versed in the science side of skincare too 🙂
I think the difficult is to find out what is really biotechnology and what is small enough to penetrate the skin. They sell EGF, peptides, Stem cell. But as i understand there are much different peptides and not all are small enough. Same with stem cell. No one write in there description if they use nano technology or exposome or other way to deliver the stuff deep enogh in the skin. Is there a way to can see in the incilist if they use something that deliver all deep enough in the skin?
You can't understand the delivery system (i.e. exosomes) used in a product from the list of its ingredients, exactly like you can't understand how a food was cooked from its ingredients. As mentioned in the video, exosomes are nanosized particles (from 50 to 200 nanometers to be exact). The average human skin pore is between 30 to 50 micrometer in diameter, that means exosomes are on average 250 to 600 smaller than the size of skin pores. Also, as I covered in the video, they are easily absorbed by cells because their outer membrane has a structure that is identical to the one of human cells. The performance and effectiveness of other materials you mention (EGF, peptides etc) really depends on the delivery system used in the formula (exosomes for instance) and you can't know this from the ingredient list of a product. That's why I always recommend carefully checking the product description! As a marketer I assure you, you can understand a LOT more from the way a brand describes a product in their marketing than from a simple ingredient list. The secret is learning to recognise when brands know what they're talking about and are genuinely interested in educating their customers vs brands that are just trying to sell you a story 😁 a quick example could be topical collagen products. Collagen molecules are naturally bigger than the size of skin pores, so if a brand is trying to sell you a topical collagen product without mentioning how they optimised the absorption of collagen molecules, that's a red flag. There are no general guidelines I can give you because every ingredient behaves differently, but once you become naturally more familiar with skincare ingredients and their characteristics, it will be easier to know what type of marketing claims to look out for (or avoid!).
I clicked since I saw Jennie but this is really informative video. I’m going to Korea this April, I’m going to buy Hera products not just for Jennie but I’m now really interested. Anyways, I learned a lot. Thank you❤
Sure! Encapsulation is a method used to enclose the active ingredients in skincare products to prevent their degradation, but it’s a broad blanket term that encompasses lots of different technologies (i.e. liposomes, extrusion etc), including exosomes. For now exosomes are the encapsulation technique that showed the best absorption potential and highest degree of biocompatibility because their outer membrane is identical to the one of cells. However it's not a technology that comes without challenges and that's also the reason why all these beauty conglomerates decided to partner with biotech companies that specialise in exosome technology. The main challenge of exosomes at the moment is that they need to be isolated and purified before being used and to do so they have to go through a centrifugation process - this process can damage the morphology of the exosomes (i.e. damage the cell surface receptors I mentioned in the video) if not carefully carried out, so it's not something that companies with no prior expertise in the field could implement overnight.
Hello Odile, would you say the Hera lipgloss in speechless would be a universally flattering color (I really suck at the whole season profiling) ? Thank you for your content, it's perfect and really instructive as usual !
I usually wash my hair every other day, but every day during summer (we have very humid summers in Korea). I normally don't double shampoo, but during the most humid months sometimes I do.
I didn't know there was an interest in Korean haircare because many people on CZcams seem to only care about Olaplex lol. I wanted to test the waters with this video and it's good to know there's an audience for this type of content! Thank you for the input, it's really helpful 🙏
@@OdileMonodTheMonodist I am definitely interested. As an Asian American, much of the products here in the US seem far too rough for my hair and scalp as I have very dry hair and nothing seems to work. I have an interest in learning about kbeauty hair care that delivers for soft silky hair
Would the black serum be helpful for someone in their late 40s? It sounded as though the star ingredient is more about early aging. Is there another product that’s utilizes biotechnology that might be better for older, dry skin? I just found your channel, and I really appreciate your knowledge of the beauty industry!!
O Hui's The First Geniture line is an anti-aging line for more advanced signs of aging and is based on human stem cells (I haven't covered this line yet on my channel, but I'm working on a dedicated video that will be out before summer). Isa Knox's Te'rvina franchise (there are 3 lines in the franchise) is also designed with older skin in mind and it's formulated with bio engineered human placenta growth factors. I talked about this franchise in my guide to Isa Knox. AHC’s Real Eye Cream For Face franchise is made using biodesigned human-like collagen and elastin and it's recommended for older skin. I have a dedicated video on the product and a new one about the latest version of the product coming next week 😊
As I mentioned The Black Serum is mostly targeted for first signs of aging, so I would go either for Whoo or other lines from Sooryehan designed for mature skin - I previously talked about their Hyobidam line on the channel, that's the equivalent of Whoo's Jinyulhyang line in the Sooryehan catalogue. They were created by the same parent company as sister brands (Whoo being the luxury brand and Sooryehan the premium one) so you'll find there are lots of similarities within their catalogues. Both the Jinyulhyang line and the Hyobidam line are fantastic so it's hard to tell you which one to get, personally I find the Jinyulhyang line has more elegant formulas and better absorption, but again, we're comparing top notch products against top notch products 😂
Hi Odile. I bought the Hera Plumping Cream after watching yet another wonderful video. You say that it can be used as a primer. Does this mean after sunscreen? That would be great since sunscreen would hide the glow that the cream gives, I would have thought.
can you please explain the differences of the Illiyoon brand? the various lines (blue bottle vs the other colors) and formulations (lotion vs concentrate cream) are very confusing it may be interesting to compare it to Aestura’s brand that seems very very similar to the blue Illiyoon line
I always learn so much from your videos and get reminded of fascinating subjects I have been meaning to read up on. Am I right in thinking that shampoo is a quasi-drug? Ever since I learned about Madecassol from the BTY ALY article you helped with I've been very curious about Korean quasi-drugs and OTC medicines!
Spot on! Hair loss treatments are regulated as functional cosmetics in Korea (the equivalent of Japanese quasi-drugs) and subject to pre-market testing and approval. Korea also has a product category called quasi-drugs but it only concerns products with anti-bacterial functions so things like hand sanitisers, sanitary pads or OTC acne treatments. Madecassol, the OTC drug by Centellian24's parent company, falls in that category because it's a hydrocortisone cream 😎 in the first half of the year I planned a video on Korean cosmetics produced by pharmaceutical companies where I'll talk about the topic.
Sorry, I missed this comment! The parent company of Sooryehan works in partnership with a biotech company called Exocobio, which specialises in human-derived exosomes indeed.
@@cloche-et-chocolat thank you for replying, I am not that great in Biology 😀 but the topic has caught my interest. It might be a stupid question do they derive the human cells by blood?
Not stupid at all! They're sourced from human adipose tissue harvested via liposuction, which I know may sound quite morbid at first but it's standard practice in stem cell therapy 😅
5 products in this video are by Amorepacific and 2 products are by LG. For the first LG product I even recommended alternatives from direct competitors, something that sponsors are known to really appreciate, as we all know. Pro tip: You don't have the business acumen you think you have, next time count to ten before leaving an ignorant comment.
7:57 Appreciate the content. FYI: Please replace your use of "oriental" with "Asian". Oriental is considered derogatory to those of us who are Asian. The other term is considered furniture at best, and objectifies a certain demographic often seen as no more than a group to be exploited.
Hello! I am aware of the derogatory nature of the term in many Western countries, however I use the term "Oriental Medicine" because that's the official term used by Korean institutions (i.e. the relevant government agency is called "Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine" www.kiom.re.kr/). Since 1951, Korea has been working to integrate the practice into their national healthcare system and for this reason, they started to regulate the practice and separate simple folk remedies from science-based TCM remedies. "Oriental Medicine" is used to describe the legally recognised science-based TCM remedies, whereas there's a different Korean expression used to indicate folk remedies. By using the official institutional term, I'm trying to convey the fact that these remedies have legally recognised scientific value.
@@OdileMonodTheMonodist Thank you for your explanation. What is the break down of your viewers? If majority are Western, it might be beneficial to verbally note the context or put up a graphic to explain this in future videos when the phrase is used. I found it offensive. To me it did not communicate what you intended by using the "official institutional term" it did not "convey the fact that these remedies have legally recognised scientific value". This is by no means generally understood by your general viewers.
@@violetviolet888 you really don't need to feel offended on the behalf of Asians as many of us don't care. Most who are born in Asia don't even understand that the term has derogatory connotations in the western world because not everything revolves around the west as you would like to think
@odilemonod thank you so much for another amazing video. I am 49 with quite good skin for my age and have been using Kskincare recommended mainly online before discovering your channel. I would like to buy anti-aging products to target elasticity, wrinkles and pigmentation. I am thinking of starting with Donginbi 1899 single essence and Red Ginseng Daily Defense Essence EX. Also thinking of Sulwhasoo first care activating serum. Is there any products that you can recommend please?
Can you do content on products to deal with body hyperpigmentations, stretch marks, scars, certain body area like underarm and buttocks? what is popular in korea?
This channel aims to be an accurate depiction of what's actually popular in Korea, I don’t cover beauty brands and products made for the foreign market.

Which serum (with that technology) would you recommend for aging skin (50 yr and over)?
15:12 thats my fav serum! The first lab probiotic ❤
where bought?
I love it too 😍 I'll talk about it soon!
@@Samq666 They sell it in one of reputable besuty ecommerce in my country.
@@OdileMonodTheMonodist please do so!! They’re so underrated here although they enter the market in 2019.
Love the video 💛 thank you
Siii Al fin otro video, ya se te extrañaba
Dr. Groot seems amazing! But they gotta make that packaging aesthetic 😩 the gen z in me is crying
Hello Odile, would you say the Hera lipgloss in speechless would be a universally flattering color (I really suck at the whole season profiling) ? Thank you for your content, it's perfect and really instructive as usual !
Thank you! Yes it's a neutral muted shade that is not too warm and not too cold so I definitely think it's a universal nude 😊
@@OdileMonodTheMonodist I wish I could see all those nuances in colors 😂, in the meantime thank you for enlightening me 🙏
This video should get more views
Thank you 🥰
Welcome back!❤😂🎉😊❤
Love it!
Thanks so much for this, can I ask with the Dr Groot shampoo, how often do you wash and do you double shampo too?
I usually wash my hair every other day, but every day during summer (we have very humid summers in Korea). I normally don't double shampoo, but during the most humid months sometimes I do.
Great Video
Could you please make video why Sulwhasoo still use Alchohol denat in their products? Even after updating their lines. It's so frustrating
Thank you for the informative video. Can’t wait for new videos to come up, and I wish you can do a video for hair care products
History of Whoo also makes lines specifically for total anti-ageing (people over 40+)
True! But I didn't mention about THOW because she asked specifically for skincare products that use biotechnology 😁
Madam, which essential oil or serums are best for whitening of skin (reduction of dark pigmentation )
Would you suggest the black serum over the House of Whoo essence for aging skin (62 years old)?
@@OdileMonodTheMonodist Thank you.
I purchased the Hwayugo Youth Eye serum set, has emulsion, etc…Better for my age than the Jinyulhang line?
Yes that's spot on!
Hi Odile. I bought the Hera Plumping Cream after watching yet another wonderful video. You say that it can be used as a primer. Does this mean after sunscreen? That would be great since sunscreen would hide the glow that the cream gives, I would have thought.
Yes indeed 😁 I mostly use it as a makeup primer in fact
@@OdileMonodTheMonodist great 👍. Thank you ❤️
COVID is probably part of the problem as well. It absolutely has increased occurrence of hair loss
can you please explain the differences of the Illiyoon brand?
the various lines (blue bottle vs the other colors) and formulations (lotion vs concentrate cream) are very confusing
it may be interesting to compare it to Aestura’s brand that seems very very similar to the blue Illiyoon line
Hi, for those based in Singapore, where can we get the Kolmar products? Thanks
Is there a full ingredients list of the Sooryehan The Black Serum?
Where do you buy the product especially the base primer?
Ciao Odile,ti ho scoperta da poco ma già mi piace tanto il tuo stile e i tuoi contenuti. Sono molto intetessata allo shampoo del dr Groove, dove posso comprarlo in Italia?
Will you ever review Caviplla??
Is there any better CZcams video out there
Thank you 🥰 It's gonna be tough to compete with the 6 hour video essay on the decline of One Piece, but I'm always up for a challenge 💪
💙👏
Can the black serum be used alongside retinol?
Yes it doesn’t contain any ingredients that interact with retinol 😊
Grazie Odile!

Exosome if derived from where?Animals or plants?
Sorry, I missed this comment!
The parent company of Sooryehan works in partnership with a biotech company called Exocobio, which specialises in human-derived exosomes indeed.
@@cloche-et-chocolat thank you for replying, I am not that great in Biology 😀 but the topic has caught my interest. It might be a stupid question do they derive the human cells by blood?
Not stupid at all! They're sourced from human adipose tissue harvested via liposuction, which I know may sound quite morbid at first but it's standard practice in stem cell therapy 😅
@@OdileMonodTheMonodist very interesting. Always learning something new from your videos

Do these companies rely on animal testing? Are they 'cruelty free'?
No sorry, they're not cruelty-free. If it's helpful, the products/brands I cover on this channel are mostly not cruelty-free.

@@elithluxe7568 Thank you for your perspective, I simply disagree with you because the same demographic you describe *totally agree* with me.
