This has got to be the best skincare channel on CZcams. Odile, it's so clear you put a lot of work into your videos. The editing, information and even the occasional joke are all so well done! Can't wait to see part 2!

😭😭😭😭 thank you! I'm glad it comes across that I spend an unhealthy amount of time planning each and every detail of these videos, I think to some people it might come across as I don't care about this channel because I don't upload 5 videos a week, when in reality I'm just an annoying perfectionist lol. Thank you so much for the nicest comment!

Hello everyone! Thank you for your patience and apologies this video took me so long but I wanted to have a comprehensive guide on Hanbang skincare on my channel since I wasn't fully satisfied with the one I did last year. Plus, I needed to have this theoretical framework somewhere on my channel in preparation for a massive video on The History of Whoo I'm working on (spoiler alert!) and that will be out at the beginning of next year.
I tried to keep this mini series of two videos accessible and easy to follow even for casual skincare users with no prior knowledge of TKM or Oriental Medicine, however if you’d like to take a deep dive into the topic, I also wrote a much more detailed guide on Hanbang skincare on my website:
    themonodist.com/2021/12/17/introduction-to-korean-hanbang-skincare/
(That's also the main reason why this video took so long in case you're wondering - for two full weeks I spent every hour after work translating and summarising the content of all my books on Hanbang 😵)

To be honest I did notice a difference in my skin when I was using Hanbang products (Sulwhasoo, the most popular Hanbang brand back then) vs generic products... I've always wanted to try History of Whoo, really excited to watch the next video!
Odile, you make such excellent videos that explain things in avery succint yet engaging way! Thank you for poring over Dongguibogam and making it undetstandable! Can't wait for part two!

So that’s why hanbang skincare is expensive. Can’t wait to try abib then 🤣
I think only South Korea & China made their traditional medicine is equal to Modern Practices. In other countries they put it as an Alternative. Props to both nations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

OMG... I tried the Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Serum followed by Whoo Essential Revitalising Emulsion and woke up with very firm skin. Literally, I had a bit of sagging around my mouth and it disappeared, I've never seen such a quick and powerful effect from anything else before. I'm glad I found your channel because it inspired me to try red ginseng and hangbang skincare. I think that Sulwhasoo serum is probably my favourite thing ever after retinal. I also liked the Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX but I didn't like the First Care Essence( I don't see what's the hype, it has too much alcohol denat). Btw, is Sulwhasoo a hangbang brand?

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  Před 2 lety +3

😎 yup, your experience is very similar to mine and what got me hooked to Hanbang skincare in my youth. Sulwhasoo and History of Whoo are the two biggest Hanbang brands in Korea. Personally I prefer Whoo but the Concentrated Ginseng Serum by Sulwhasoo is definitely one of my top 3 products by Sulwhasoo, it's truly an amazing serum like you said.
The Jinyulhyang range by History of Whoo (the line of the Essential Revitalising Emulsion) is their line designed to help advanced signs of skin aging especially related to menopause (extreme dryness, loss of elasticity, dull complexion), the products in the range are phenomenonal when it comes to firming skin. I suffer from a hereditary form of anemia so coincidentally my skin concerns are similar to the ones associated with this line even though I'm not technically going through menopause yet, and I can't tell you how much the Jinyulhyang line changed my skin. If you'd like to add some other firming Hanbang products to your routine, I recommend to look into the Jinyulhyang Contouring Massage Mask and the Jinyulhyang Cream. The Contouring Massage Mask is black magic in a tube 🤣 it's a mask than you can leave overnight or use as a wash-off treatment and it will instantly make skin more firm and toned, I was shocked when I first tried it years ago.

@@OdileMonodTheMonodist Thanks so much for the recommendations. I am also considering buying Hwanyu Imperial Youth Emulsion after I finish my Essential Revitalising Emulsion. However, the price is like 3 times more. Do you think Hwanyu emulsion is worth the extra money or should I just stick to Revitalising Emulsion?

Even though my skin care routine is pretty much all about actives, I can see the value in incorporating Hanbang. I recently became aware of the importance of pH in skin care, especially as we age.
This is important information to know, especially for those who have skin problems, like acne and signs of aging. Do you know if Hanbang manufacturers are aware of and address pH in their formulas? Do they have information on their websites regarding the pH of their products? Thank you for your guidance.

What do you think of Missha’s various lines of hanbang products? Such as the Chogonjin Sosaeng/Youngan, Geum Sul, Snow Radiance (it’s like Geum Sul packaging but fancier), and Ye Hyeon Jin-Bon lines? I’ve been really curious about them. Especially since the Geum Sul and Snow Radiance line seem to use fermented and aged red ginseng. I’m also unsure if I should pursue 6 year old red ginseng products at the age of 26 with zero signs of aging atm or just use something like Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence.

I will do a special focus on all their Hanbang lines next year because I think Missha makes some of the best entry-level Hanbang skincare lines out there (so much so I decided to include them in part 2 of this series).
From what you describe, you should be absolutely fine using a simple antioxidant product (like the BoJ essence) for anti-aging prevention.
