    I was a little afraid to watch this, Williams turned into bad memories last October. I did anyway and I am glad I did. I should learn how to cherish memories and not regard them as bad anymore. Thank you so much for uploading. Merry Christmas!

    By the way Jim, I've been meaning to compliment you not just on your videos but on the music as well. The selection here is a particular favorite, as I'm a longtime Airplane / Starship fan.

    Thanks for shooting this side of Arizona. I was in Williams about a month ago heading to the Grand Canyon right after the feds reopened the park. Williams is a great little town. It was were I got my last speeding ticket too. Oops, lol.

    Nice ride... looks like the town was able to survive being bypassed... and it reminds me of some of the towns along US 30 here in Ohio before they were bypassed in the 1990s-00s! Nice... always enjoying your vids!

    Nice work, Jim! Williams and Winslow are my two favorite towns on the old 66 path through AZ. Can't wait for Albuquerque. The 40/25 interchange is very cool !

    The last section of US 66 built in 1984 was a great drive. The decommission of US 66 happened on June 27, 1985 and parts of it was mostly replaced by the Interstate Highway System and other routes like state routes. Traveling between Santa Monica and Chicago is it's route. It was one of the US routes that travel between the Pacific Ocean to the Great Lakes on both ends.

    Nice drive and the minute I was wondering if you were going to stop, you did. Not what I expected for Arizona.

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  Před 10 lety

      Thanks, it was a good stop too. I'm guessing the I-10 corridor is more of what we tend to think of when we think of Arizona although I-40 is not a bad ride at all.

    We stayed in a motel in Williams in 2011 for a Grand Canyon trip. It's a really neat mountain town. I too couldn't resist the Route 66 gift shops! Great little side trip video Jim!

      JMV, I've been to that place before when I visited Williams. Entertaining little place. The Red Raven is just down the street from there. Excellent food. Also, You can take the train from Williams up to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

    Looked like a lot of the old motor courts along the route still thrive - though some appear to be affiliated with chains now. Too bad you didn't get to Oatman, but it is a bit off the beaten path.Thanks for the ride!

    It also looks like ADOT or Williams recently completed a road diet on old 66, as one side of the road has parallel parking and the other side has angled parking

    Surprised you didn't do the Kingman Pass between Kingman and Williams. I guess its more of a big deal when heading west.
    And yes, I-10 is much more of what you think of as AZ. Lots of Saguaro and a lot less Mars like than the Mojave while still being the desert. Beautiful area, IMO

      @Freewayjim  Před 10 lety

      I think because the speed limit through the heart of town is 15, the local powers that be felt stop signs would suffice.

      There was only one intersection with a traffic light when I resided there (1978 - 1980): 2nd Street at Bill Williams Avenue (Eastbound) and Grand Canyon Avenue (Westbound).
      Both streets were two lanes back then.
      I resided at an apartment at a building adjacent to Canyon Club. There was a massive structure fire about a dozen years ago; my old home and where I worked were destroyed.
      Too bad that this video omits Grand Canyon Avenue (Eastbound).

      Freewayjim A gas station. (To nico de draaier)
      It begins... My 16 days. I like the music. It's jazzy kind of. I got 2 questions
      1. Was the Exit you were on was Exit 166?
      2.(This may be inappropriate but I have to say it) Albuquerque? What the crap is that?! Is it in New Mexico?!
      I like the video as well. What's really funny about it was you went into the store & couldn't get ANYTHING. LOL. Have a Merry Christmas, a blessed day, & a happy New Year! See you on Friday December 27, 2013 for Part 2!
