    In this video I explain what's all involved to repair a Volvo cluster. I had to do the micro-soldering under the microscope so i don't have footage of it.

      Depends what year you have. The 02-03 models you just twist out the bulb an insert an LED. 04+ there is 3 smd leds soldered in for each display that would need to be replaced. A bit more complex because you need to remove the needles and disassemble everything.

    Note! - for those wishing to do a LED light mod on the XC90 dash lights...this shown mod ONLY works for 02-06 models, 07 and up do NOT have the removable T5 bulbs, they have LEDS that are integrated into the Dash PCB and cannot be changed out for different colours/shades...so buying some T5 LEDS and ripping your dash apart WILL be a waste of your valuable time and money
    ...dont ask me how I know! lol (damnit!!...I really wanted that blue white LED look)

    • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions
      @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions  Před 3 lety +1

      Actually only 02-03 models have the T5 style sockets on them. 04+ have SMD LEDs soldered onto the circuit board and aren't accessible without fully disassembling the DIM. On top of that the 04+ models have a thick green color filter on the overlay which will interfere with whatever color led that you install. This is why on our website we do not offer LED upgrade on 04+ models.

    Hi how much to repair a cluster?

  • @lynskyrd
    @lynskyrd Před 5 lety +1

    isn't a reflow a 'temporary' fix. I base my question on an assumption that reflowing is simply heating up the chip enough to remelt the solder so it flows over any 'microcracks'. After a period of time, wouldn't the solder just crack again from the heating, cooling and vibration process?
    I already had my cluster done (by someone else). Prior, the display was erratic, the characters looked 'russian' at times, sometimes they were upside down. This happened around 110,000 miles. I sent it out, got it fixed and it lasted for a good while. The car now has 319,000 miles and the symptoms are starting to show again. My message area is barely readable. The odometer still works but the time display likes to cycle through rapidly. Forget about setting the time- it never stays. Anyway- I'd be interested in a little more detail on your reflow process. Thanks.

    • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions
      @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions  Před 5 lety +1

      Your assumption is incorrect. We don't just heat up the existing solder. I don't like to bad mouth our competition but it seems like most of them do just that. We cannot disclose our exact procedure for obvious reasons. With this repair we are confident it will outlast the vehicle, that is why we give a lifetime warranty, so if in the unlikely event it will fail again you can just send it back to us and we'll repair it free of charge. Thanks for watching!

    • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions
      @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions  Před rokem

      It's not necessary. But if you turn on the ignition with the cluster out it can trigger fault codes in other modules that will say lost communication with DIM. But they won't cause any harm and can simply be cleared with a capable scan tool.

    At 5.04 it looks like the meters already is blue , why ?

    • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions
      @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions  Před 4 lety

      It had cool white LEDs installed there. There is a blue color filter on these clusters so when you install cool white leds it turns out bluish.

    Why do people make videos about fixing something then cut out the important part but talk about things that don't matter so that is a waist of time really

    • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions
      @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions  Před 5 lety +4

      We pretty much point out the exact issue. If you know how to solder it shouldn't be an issue. If you need me to show you exactly how to resolder it then you shouldn't be repairing it because you can't just learn it by watching a video, there is too many variables for a successful repair.

    Whatever. Explain the problem does not help the DIY. Show how you repaired not just the issue. You do that people who are willing or not to take the challenge Will or will not pay but at the least you give a true option and still gain business.
